June 17, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Next Thursday is the latest sunset 🌇 of the year and the Strawberry Moon 🍓 🌕 . Lots of things to keep the lights up late that day. Sunny and 57 degrees in Delmar, NY. 🌞 There is a west-southwest breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 44 degrees. Kind of a chilly start for a late June morning although the heat right now is lurking out on the west coast.

My bags are packed 💞 and I’m ready to head to the Adirondacks after work. I decided not to drive work because it’s just easier to leave from home and leaving a bit after 6 pm means I shouldn’t hit much traffic. The coolers will last longer with everything in the fridge or freezer today. ðŸĨš I forgot to get eggs yesterday so I’ll have to stop at Stewart’s on the way up north. Not sure if the forecast is as nice as previously announced but I am glad to be gone this long weekend where I can enjoy the quiet. ðŸĪŦ No cell service where I’m going, should be nice and quiet.

Bus reroute this morning 🚌 due to a house fire ðŸ”Ĩ on Delaware Avenue. Been a while since a building burnt there but house fires ðŸ”Ĩ in the city seem to follow a trend – neighborhoods destabilize and then one building after another burns. It just seems like Albany is sliding down hill. The whole city after decades of improvement after pollution controls were implemented is just sliding backwards. It may be the pandemic but also foreign investment driving up the rents and driving out the tenants and businesses. All that money ðŸ’ĩ from China purchases is being reinvested in our community by China slumlords looking for a place to park their cash.

Today will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 75 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 31st. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 87 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1994.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:57 pm with sun having an altitude of 70.8° from the due south horizon (-0.1° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 7:53 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (297°). ðŸ“ļ The sunset is in the west-northwest (304°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:36 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 28 seconds with dusk around 9:10 pm, which is 21 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter 🌓 Moon in the southwest (225°) at an altitude of 44° from the horizon, 231,723 miles away. 🚀 The best time to look at the stars is after 9:57 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 68 degrees. The dew point will be 46 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 18 minutes of daytime, an increase of 16 seconds over yesterday.

I can wait until the work day is over to head up north. I am thinking I also need maple syrup besides eggs for my pancakes. ðŸĨž I might end up going to Price Chopper in Gloversville. I wish I had just skip the run to the store yesterday. That was dumb on my part. Well, I guess it is what is. I just got flustered over the stupid can return and then I couldn’t find what I needed in the store. I feel stupid but it ain’t the end of world. The days are long now, I don’t care if I get up to camp really late although I’d kind of like to get that House Pond Campsite if possible.

Tonight will be mostly clear 🌃, with a low of 49 degrees at 5am. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 19th. West wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2020, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It became somewhat humid as the night progressed. It got down to 62 degrees. The record low of 39 occurred back in 1958.

On this day in 1972, Five White House operatives are arrested for burgling the offices of the Democratic National Committee, ðŸ‘Ū🏞‍♂ïļ ðŸ‘Ī in an attempt by some members of the Republican party to illegally wiretap the opposition. This would become the basis for the Watergate scandal.

The Juneteenth Weekend looks nice. 🏖 Friday, mostly sunny, with a high near 82. South wind 5 to 9 mph. Saturday, scattered showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 11am. Partly sunny, with a high near 82. South wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Maximum dew point of 65 at 10am. Sunday, sunny, with a high near 81. Maximum dew point of 61 at 8pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 80 degrees.

As previously noted, next Thursday is Latest Sunset of the year 🌆 when the sun will be setting at 8:37 pm with dusk at 9:12 pm. On that day in 2020, we had humid weather and partly sunny skies, rain showers in the afternoon and temperatures between 85 and 65 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 82 degrees. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1943.

Good morning! Today is the first 8:30 PM Sunset ïļâ›ąïļ . Actually a bit later here as I’m farther to the west here in the Adirondacks. Two weeks to Average High is 80 🏖 . Mostly sunny and 69 degrees at Mason Lake. There is a west-southwest breeze at 13 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 57 degrees. The breeze this morning is nice and keeping the bugs in control. 🐜 Last night until dusk the black flies were bad but this morning with the low humidity, they aren’t bad at all.

Today will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 83 degrees at 2pm. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 28th. Maximum dew point of 57 at 10am. West wind 13 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Up north with that breeze it should be pretty nice. Back in Albany I bet they are roasting. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was sticky. The high last year was 85 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1925.

I am planning a pretty lazy day on the hammock, ðŸ˜ī maybe doing some fishing ðŸŽĢ, day drinking ðŸŧ, laying in the hammock and possibly a swim 🏊ðŸŧ‍♂ïļ. I don’t feel real ambitious, going to be a hot one and truth be told, I just want a day and away from it all. Between that fire at Mr. Wolcott’s house to issues I have in my own life, to everything that’s been going on in my life its but wild. ðŸĪŠ I just want a weekend with nothing crazy going on, just quiet and relaxing. Next week is going to be really busy and there might be some work projects today so I’m camping 🏕 here at Mason Lake where I know I have good cell service ðŸ“ą. Lots of laying back.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:57 pm with sun having an altitude of 69° from the due south horizon (-0.8° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 7:53 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (296°). ðŸ“ļ The sunset is in the west-northwest (303°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:36 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 29 seconds with dusk around 9:10 pm, which is 43 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 The best time to look at the stars is after 9:57 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies 🌃 and temperatures around 75 degrees. The dew point will be 54 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 15 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 18 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 4 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ðŸŒĪ, with a low of 63 degrees at 4am. Eight degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 54 at 6pm. West wind 10 to 15 mph. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was humid. It got down to 60 degrees. The record low of 38 occurred back in 1971.

Yesterday when I went to boot windows for the Zoom Meeting ðŸ“đ the silly windows took 25 minutes to boot so my cover was blown that I was working from the Adirondacks as I had to connect using my phone without the virtual background. It’s the worst kept secret ever that I often work from the Adirondacks when working remotely. ðŸ—ŧ Sometimes technology fails but I made my meeting and work gets done. I really hope they keep the remote hybrid model at work, however their is a lot of resistance to that.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Average High is 80 🏖 when the sun will be setting at 8:42 pm with dusk at 9:18 pm. On that day in 2020, we had hot, partly cloudy and temperatures between 88 and 70 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 80 degrees. We hit a record high of 94 back in 1995.

That weekend in two weeks is going to be the Juneteenth weekend ⛹ which I am thinking would be perfect for some quiet time with no cell service 🔕 and no internet at Piseco-Powley Road. As much as I like being connected to the world its nice to be off the grid spending a lot of day at the Potholers or maybe better yet that campsite at the House Pond Campsite with the swimming 🏊ðŸŧ‍♂ïļ hole nearby if I can get it. Come July, definitely want to check out the renovated Mine Kill Pool and Burnt Rossman Hills Forest and then of course summer vacation in the Finger Lakes. 🏞

Good morning! Happy Pack Rat Day 🐀! It’s hard to argue with Texas ranchers with their burn pits. Pile it up and light a match. ðŸ”Ĩ Backfill the dead pit hole with dirt. 🚜 Kind of like they do in the city without the fancy liners and shit. Remember Texas is nearly six times the size of New York, you can get away with shit out there unthinkable back east. Two weeks to Memorial Day 🇚ðŸ‡ļ . That officially is the kick off to summer. I think I will stay out of the Adirondacks that weekend because I don’t like crowds or black flies. I had my fill this weekend. Mostly sunny and 50 degrees at the Mason Lake. 😎 Calm wind. But so far that black flies 🐜 haven’t awoken but they are coming. 🙄

Yesterday, I hiked Watch Hill (again) 🏃 then walked around Lewey Lake Campground ðŸĶ studying the birds, and taking some pictures of scenery. 🖞 Still not sure what the hiking trails listed on the signs are from Lewey Lake are — I have some on my map, but I couldn’t find them. But I tell you they pack those campsites in. I drove down to Mason Lake, and while I didn’t get a campsite right on the lake like I had hoped, 🏕 I did find a campsite that I didn’t visit at all last year, and it was nice smaller site. The smaller sites are easier to light. The black flies were super bad all around Perkins Clearing, 🐜 but once I had the screen tent set up and I could hide out in there to dusk, it was bearable. 📗 Did some reading and scrolling through the phone for a while ðŸ“ą before doing a brief walk down to Mason Lake, which was about 3/4 mile down from the road where I camped. Virtually nobody up at Watch Hill, I passed a small group hiking up the mountain but after that I didn’t see a single other person. ðŸ—ŧ I didn’t dilly dally too much on Watch Hill as I heard some thunder and it looked like rain to south ðŸŒĐ but it tuned out to be nothing more then a handful of rain dops.

Taking down camp ⛹ and getting ready to head to Spectulator. I have a busy day ahead so I want to be there by nine 🕘. I also want things taken down before the black flies are out in force. Made some eggs ðŸĨš and laying back in the hammock for a few minutes before I start on south. A pretty nice day, alas a work day so I’ll probably be spending most of the day at the Lake Pleasant Wi-Fi, but at least I won’t have to worry about having enough energy to keep everything charged. 😎 But alas, this evening after work I’m heading back home. I am running a bit low on supplies, and I want to work from home tomorrow so I can get ready for working in office come Wednesday. ðŸ‘Ļ‍💞 Pretty drive though down to Spectulator this morning.

Today will have a slight chance of showers after 1pm. Mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 69 degrees at 1pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 9th. But then again, we are comparing Speculator weather to Albany climate normals, and that’s not a perfect mix as it’s colder in mountains. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies. The high last year was 74 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 2017.

The agenda today is pretty much work, ðŸ’ŧ although I hope at lunch time to have an hour to go for a walk along the Sacandaga River and maybe sit down by Lake Pleasant. At 5 PM or so I’ll head home and get unpacked. Maybe a make a few stops along away to toss in a fishing line. ðŸŽĢ J do like fishing below the dam in Wells, although with the warm weather they probably will have ramped the hydro dam up and the trout are probably hiding in deep due to the heat.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:55 pm with sun having an altitude of 65.8° from the due south horizon (-4° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 7:37 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (291°). ðŸ“ļ The sunset is in the west-northwest (298°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:19 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 20 seconds with dusk around 8:51 pm, which is one minute and 3 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter 🌓 Moon in the west-southwest (254°) at an altitude of 49° from the horizon, 241,453 miles away. 🚀 The best time to look at the stars is after 9:34 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 60 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 14 hours and 48 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 3 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌃 , with a low of 47 degrees at 3am. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 13th. Calm wind. In 2020, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 54 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1981.

This weekend will give us a hint of summer. 🏖 But not really muggy. Saturday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 77. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Maximum dew point of 57 at 8am. Sunday, a chance of showers. Mostly sunny, with a high near 78. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 56 at 8am. Typical average high for the weekend is 73 degrees. I’m considering Madison County, where there won’t be black flies, but two weekend in a row traveling can be a bit tired. I am not sure.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Memorial Day 🇚ðŸ‡ļ when the sun will be setting at 8:31 pm with dusk at 9:06 pm. 🌚 Aren’t you looking forward to the unofficial kick-off for summer, although we get will get a taste of that this week. On that day in 2020, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 65 and 46 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 75 degrees. We hit a record high of 92 back in 2013.

Litter Barrel

Sometimes you find old litter barrels in the woods, from back when Conservation Department had such barrels and they regularly dumped them in dump sites in woods, before they implemented carry-in, carry-out and controlled landfills. This one has been turned into a burning barrel, at this campsite both for warm and disposal at this campsite near Robb Creek and Sacnadaga River.

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Going to Be a Beautiful Friday! Maybe not super warm, but an improvement over yesterday. Two weeks to 8 PM Sunset 🌇 . Summer is coming. Less then two months now, and we could certainly have some nice warm days come May. Even mid-next week looks quite pleasant. This morning, it’s sunny and 36 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west breeze at 8 mph. 🍃. Cold start to the morning, but it will be fairly warm this afternoon bar the breeze. Wearing the hoodie over my shirt for the morning walk. ðŸšķ‍♀ïļ

Yesterday, I went over to John Wolcott’s House 🔎 and spent several hours going through his Pinksterfest archives, looking for a misplaced long-lost letter about the Fort Orange dig. ✉ïļ Didn’t find it but there was a lot of interesting things about the history of the Pinksterfest ðŸŒļ and the Mid-crosstown Arterial in his files. 📂 I wanted to go to the Earth Day Rally 🌎 but by the time I got there after work, the rally had already broken up. Part of it was I didn’t catch the bus I wanted to get downtown, 🚌 because the bus schedule still has the reduced rush-hour service, and I didn’t check it real careful. The Earth Day rally was supposed to go until 6 PM but I think it ended early with the police protests 🚓 in the other part of the city. 👊 Truth be told, I am just a lot less interested politics and citizen activism these days. ðŸĶ‹ Save the Pine Bush is my big thing.

Today will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 58 degrees at 4pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 15th. Breezy, with a west wind 8 to 13 mph increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 33 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 56 degrees. The record high of 87 was set in 2007. 2.4 inches of snow fell back in 1956.❄

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:54 pm with sun having an altitude of 60° from the due south horizon (-10.8° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 7:08 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (282°). ðŸ“ļ

Today I am going to get packed for the Adirondacks 🏕 as my hope is head north tonight for a long weekend, possibly into next week. ðŸŒē ðŸŒēðŸŒē ðŸŒē I am thinking about working remotely on Monday from the Adirondacks, as long as the weather is nice enough and maybe staying into Tuesday, a bit in a different campsite so to limit my stay to 3 nights in any one location. I have a lot going on today, so it’s going to be busy for packing, and I want to try to get to store mid-day and maybe down to the laundromat when I work, or maybe I have enough clothes if I wait and reuse some jeans — that is if I pick up another pair today. 👖 Going to be a cold night up north with the wind, but I’ll have my heater â™Ļïļ and I can build a small fire for warmth. ðŸ”Ĩ still going to be some snow to deal with up north.

Really starting to get a bit low on clothes, 👕 and as I haven’t bought any in over a year as I’ve not needed as much working from home. 👞 My dress shoes are still in the office, sitting drawer they’ve been since the beginning of the pandemic. Going to need a good polish when I go get them, as come May I think I’ll be in office more, although it gets tricky with all the remaining COVID-restrictions. ðŸ‘Ļ‍💞 That and I haven’t been to the laundromat or my parents house in over a week.

The sunset is in the west-northwest (288°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:47 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 3 seconds with dusk around 8:16 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous 🌔 Moon in the southeast (131°) at an altitude of 45° from the horizon, 231,553 miles away. 🚀 The best time to look at the stars is after 8:53 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 54 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 13 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 45 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 39 seconds over yesterday.

Today my cellphone renews ðŸ“ē and I’m hoping that will go well. Still not sure if my new credit card is working ðŸ’ģ, those temporary $1 authorizations that caught my eye last weekend still haven’t dropped off the bill. I should maybe call the credit card company to ensure my card is still active. I am starting to think it was all just a system glitch with the dozen or so $1 authorizations, maybe something went wrong when I went to buy milk ðŸĨ› the other day at the store, and my worry is just that. Pure silliness. But you can’t be too careful these days. Need to make sure that’s straightened out before I go north.

Also, we are doing another recording session with John Wolcott and some of other Save the Pine Bush people for our history project 📜 tonight, but if I am going north, I am not going to be able to participate. But it is what it is, I’ve wanted to get out of town for some weeks now. 🏕 It should be a real nice night, but maybe a bit chilly. Maybe a little snow up north. Probably be setting up after dark, but I have flashlights ðŸ”Ķ and lights, as I have my therapy session at 4 PM and I’m sure it will run after 5 PM. ðŸ‘Ļ‍⚕ïļ My lantern is working well. ðŸŪ Also I might have to work late, so who knows, but I’d really like to get out of town today.

Tonight will be mostly clear 🌃, with a low of 41 degrees at 4am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 25th. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. In 2020, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 40 degrees. The record low of 25 occurred back in 1965.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 68 degrees at 3pm. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 10th. West wind 8 to 10 mph. Should be a very nice spring day. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 54 degrees. The record high of 81 was set in 2001. 1.2 inches of snow fell back in 1967.❄

I am chewing over my options for hikes on Saturday, but I am still leaning towards Pine Orchard. ðŸŒēðŸŒē, although there are a handful of other options. There are a lot of hikes I haven’t done over the years, but one thing to consider is how muddy the trails will be. It might actually be better to just do a road hike to stay out of the mud. I’ll have to think about it, especially if I am planning to spend part of next week up north.

Looking ahead to Sunday, rain likely, mainly before 2pm. 🌧 Mostly cloudy, with a high near 60. Southeast wind 5 to 9 mph becoming north in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. Typical average high for the weekend is 62 degrees.

Seems like it will be wet on Sunday, but actually not that bad when you consider total precipitation. ⛈ It would be fun to work up north on Monday, maybe sit out by Lake Pleasant listening to some music using either my laptop or phone for work. Might be a bit cool on Monday but I can wear a jacket and sun will feel real nice. Then I might head home on Monday or find somewhere and stay through Tuesday or Wednesday. 😎 Mason Lake isn’t a option though for another month as the road is closed due to mud season and frost coming out of the ground.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until 8 PM Sunset 🌇 when the sun will be setting at 8:02 pm with dusk at 8:33 pm. On that day in 2020, we had partly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 65 and 43 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 67 degrees. That will be real nice. We hit a record high of 92 back in 1930.
