Clearing Clouds

Watching the amazing process as the clouds float to the east and things get progressively clearer.

Choppy Waters

The water was somewhat choppy on Horsehoe Lake as there was a steady breeze as the weather was clearing out.

I guess I’ll be getting some bike tires tomorrow ๐Ÿšฒ

I mean the bike shop wasn’t wrong when they said the worn out tires would be prone to flats and would ride like a pig, especially with the more worn one on the front tire. Another flat up front and I’m not riding anywhere until I get a new tire and maybe a tube in case I can’t patch it.

Good morning! Today 8:30 PM Dusk ๐ŸŒ† . Most cloudy and 70 degrees here in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒฅ๏ธ Calm wind. Hey at least it’s not raining this morning but the temperature will drop through the day and only get cloudier.

Today will be be mostly clouds with some breaks of sun especially in the morning , ๐ŸŒฅ with a high of 70 degrees at 6am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 10th. South wind 7 to 10 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 60 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1944. There was a dusting of snow in 1986.โ„

Another shitty kind of weekend ahead, ๐Ÿ’ฉ but at least this morning Mr. Preskta isn’t out working on the unit next door ๐Ÿšช shortly after getting done with the milking and feeding – – cow ๐Ÿฎ chores at 6:30 AM in the morning. Enjoying the quiet for now, and will probably just end up spending my day at Five Rivers Environmental Education Center, ๐Ÿธ reading in the woods. The original plan called for riding over to Pebbles Island and go for a walk there, ๐Ÿšถ but honestly the weather isn’t that impressive today. Plus I need to get a tire and maybe a tube – – at least as a back up should the patch fail.

Truth is after that crash I got into Thursday, ๐Ÿ’ฅ my knee still needs time to heal. ๐Ÿฉน A weekend off from riding is a good thing in my perspective. I will continue to research tires today ๐Ÿ”Žand stop by the bike store tomorrow and buy two tires โšซ and maybe also a bike tube in case my patch fails or for an emergency it wouldn’t be bad to keep in storage for while camping or riding should I get another flat. I should be back on the road by Monday assuming they have the tire in stock.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 63.5ยฐ from the due south horizon (-7.3ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:20 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (287ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (293ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:00 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 9 seconds with dusk around 8:30 pm, which is one minute and 7 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:09 pm. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒฅ and temperatures around 61 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 14 hours and 17 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 24 seconds over yesterday.

After such a busy week riding back and forth to work, ๐Ÿšถ I am okay with taking life slow and going for a walk today. And not doing much but a lot of reading and observing nature. I was at Five Rivers last night too, rode out there, hiked and red until dusk ๐ŸŒ‡ and it was a good evening. I’m just not feeling really ambitious today and I don’t feel like driving anywhere. ๐Ÿš˜ I ended up riding back through the suburban subdivision last night, getting home in the pitch black around 10 of nine. I thought about riding out to Feura Bush for some ice cream ๐Ÿฆ but I think I’ll wait for warmer weather then last night – – wasn’t a super warm day.

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly after 3am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 48 degrees at 6am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 14th. South wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2023, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 40 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1974.

That great cabin / acerage I was looking at in Rensselaer County was only accessible via Easement, so after talking to the real estate agent I decided to pass on further investigation. ๐Ÿก Great location, not a bad commute, and really what I wanted – – off-grid pole-and-beam cabin with water and septic on 6 acres but the Easement road was a deal breaker. The price wasn’t cheap but including the cabin it was reasonable for the location if only it didn’t involve the Easement road. Might be a good hunting cabin, but it would not be possible to improve the road and even a written easement gets complicated. Maybe I’m hoping too much that I can fine the perfect turnkey solution, but what I need to do build my own. ๐Ÿ‘ทI’m continuing to research and learn everything I can.

I am still hoping that next weekend I can get out to Schoharie County, โ›บ take Friday off camp and ride throughout the weekend. Right now the weekend looks cold and showery ๐ŸŒง๏ธ but things could certainly change into he mean-time. I would like to ride the Catskill Scenic Trail, but I need new tires in the before I can do that as I don’t want to deal with another flat. And maybe find some good ramps to eat in the woods. ๐Ÿง…It’s spring turkey, ๐Ÿฆƒ so probably not hiking before noontime.

Possibly the following weekend, I might do a family trip ๐Ÿš˜ out to the Roger’s Center in Central New York, and then I believe the week after that is Memorial Day Weekend ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ which I’ll have to decide where and if I want to get eaten alive by the black flies. ๐Ÿœ Last year the trip out to Cole Hill for two nights was a lot of fun hammock camping, so that’s another option. There is something simple and beautiful about laying back in the hammock as the sky gets dark and cooking over the fire. ๐Ÿ”ฅ At some point I want to get down to Catskill Mountain Cabins, the big show room in Kingston near the Thruway to look at the pre-fab cabins that have at the showroom there, but I think that’s more likely to be a June thing. Plus thoughts of the Potholers are on my mind ๐ŸŠโ€โ™‚๏ธ come later in June but that gets hard to do in the sense that as summer progresses I’ll be busier with work at the campaign committee preparing for the autumn campaign season, running data exports and processing data.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until 9 PM Dusk ๐ŸŒ† when the sun will be setting at 8:28 pm. On that day in 2023, we had rain and temperatures between 69 and 60 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 76 degrees. We hit a record high of 94 back in 1918.

Along Edge of Alder Pond

Good morning as we wrap up our April month โ˜”

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Rain showers around with clouds and 58 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a north breeze at 10 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 53 degrees. The skies will clear around 2 pm. At least it’s mild but really not a great morning. It’s fine though as my bike is in the shop being repaired, so I can’t ride in today, though I should have it back by Tuesday.

Back to work this morning after I have my stack of carrot and apple pancakes topped with blueberries and real maple syrup. ๐Ÿ Feeling kind of sick this morning, ๐Ÿคฎ it could be the weather, the minor eye infection I had last night ๐Ÿ‘€ or the many ticks I found on myself and later picked off between my hike up Blodgett Hill yesterday or trip out to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center the day before. I am fine, just sore and achy, tired. It’s probably Lyme, and maybe I’ll end up going to the doctor before the end of the week if I remain feeling so damn sick. It’s been four years since I last got Lyme so I’m probably due for it, that tick I pulled off my foot this morning didn’t help or the one I felt yesterday climbing up my back or the one I pulled off my hand when I was reading at Five Rivers. ๐Ÿž They’re really out there in mass today.

Today will be scattered sprinkles before 9am. Clearing and becoming partly sunny ๐ŸŒค๏ธ, with a high of 67 degrees at 4pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 2nd. Maximum dew point of 53 at 6am. North wind 7 to 10 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 56 degrees. The record high of 88 was set in 1888. 1.0 inches of snow fell back in 1885.โ„

Apparently in delaying the replacement of the chain on my bike, I stripped out the gears โš™ and they’re being replaced early this week. Amazing how a $30 job I could do in a few minutes at home becomes a $200 job if you don’t pay attention. I need to get new tires too, and that will work out to being $250 in the hole, but riding my bike is still cheaper and more pleasant then driving or taking the bus to work, ๐Ÿš especially now with the suburban office. I haven’t ordered the tires yet, but I should get some either online or pick them up on the bike shop when I pick the bike up on Wednesday. I’ll probably have to go in late that day and drive to work.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 62ยฐ from the due south horizon (-8.8ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.2 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:15 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (285ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (291ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:54 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 6 seconds with dusk around 8:24 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:02 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 64 degrees. There will be a north breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 5 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 32 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after midnight. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 53 degrees at 5am. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 30th. Maximum dew point of 47 at 6am. North wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2023, we had light rain in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 48 degrees. The record low of 25 occurred back in 1874.

Not a particularly nice weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜ž Saturday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 65. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Maximum dew point of 49 at 4pm. Sunday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 67. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 51 at 1pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 68 degrees.

 Hannacroix Creek

Cold gray day that smells like cow shit in the wilderness ๐ŸŒฒ ๐Ÿฎ โ˜๏ธ

Especially after that rain and snow mix yesterday afternoon which somewhat took me for surprise. Gotta get that manure out on the hay fields even in the hills and hollows of Rensselaerville. I too much believed the National Weather Service forecast that called for clearing skies and cold with the breeze though that’s a relative thing in late April. I think I left my windows open last night in my apartment, at least on the first floor, I’m hoping it didn’t trigger the heat to come on despite being set at 45. Oh well.

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Mostly cloudy and 39 degrees at the Huyck Preserve in Rensselaerville. โ˜ There is a west-northwest breeze at 10 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 6 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Today will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 46 degrees at 5pm. 16 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 19th. West wind 10 to 13 mph. We had some sun earlier, maybe we will have some later. But it’s much colder and grayer then I expected. Of course I probably shouldn’t have been surprised to have cold wet snow camping yesterday afternoon too. โ„ A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 79 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 1923. 0.6 inches of snow fell back in 1947.โ„ Big whoop.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:56 pm with sun having an altitude of 59.5ยฐ from the due south horizon (-11.4ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:07 pm with the sun in the west (281ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (287ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:46 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 1 seconds with dusk around 8:15 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Full ๐ŸŒ Moon in the east-southeast (123ยฐ) at an altitude of 26ยฐ from the horizon, 251,521 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:52 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 43 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 13 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 43 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 40 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 32 degrees at 5am. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 4th. West wind 11 to 15 mph. In 2023, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 53 degrees. The record low of 20 occurred back in 1947.

Looking ahead, there are 2 weeks until Cinco de Mayo ๐Ÿค  when the sun will be setting at 8:02 pm with dusk at 8:32 pm. Been so cold and wet this spring that seems hard to believe. On that day in 2023, we had partly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 64 and 40 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 68 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1944.

Route 8

Sunny morning for the shopping day ๐ŸŒž ๐Ÿ›’

Still a cold morning, but that sun puts you in a good mood. Off to get groceries and get going on my day. Still a fair amount of snow in the hilltowns, so I’ll have to consider that if I want to go out hiking later on.

Good morning! Today 7:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ . Partly cloudy and 35 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… There is a north breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 3 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Started the morning with pancakes ๐Ÿฅž, you know the usual conventional type I make with oatmeal, carrots and bananas pulverized for sweetness, some milk and egg and a bit of whole-wheat flower for binder. Good stuff in my perspective, especially once topped with lots of cherries and blueberries and real maple syrup. ๐Ÿ Probably good for a sugar high too, but I figure the carrots and oatmeal will provide some fiber and the egg some fats to slow down the absorption and hopefully not damage my pancreas too much.  ๐Ÿฅ• Remember while all the kids were eating candy ๐Ÿฌ over the holiday weekend, I was staying away from all that crap.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 52 degrees at 5pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 1st. North wind 7 to 11 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 48 degrees. The record high of 87 was set in 2010. 3.2 inches of snow fell back in 1896.โ„ Should be warm enough to at least have the windows open, air things out a bit and get the humidity down. I re-installed the smoke detector as I think it will work better now that my apartment isn’t so humid and smokey from cooking.

Shopping is the top of the agenda this morning. ๐Ÿ” Truth is my pantry isn’t in terrible shape, but I want to shop today so I can avoid going later in the week. The grocery store is usually best for stock early on a Sunday morning, and then I’m done and can leave Big Red parked all morning. I should also re-fill my propane tank  ๐Ÿฎ lest I decide to head out of town for the weekend. Asparagus ๐ŸŒต is on my list now that we are in spring, plus I’m thinking maybe make red lentil soup for lunch today with a bunch more of those carrots, maybe mixed with some cottage cheese and topped with nutritional yeast. Sounds yummie. ๐Ÿ˜‹

Then maybe I’ll head out for a bike ride for a while. ๐Ÿšฒ๏ธ Nothing too major, maybe just a quick ride out to Five Rivers or Voorheesville. Honestly, it’s kind of a chilly not very nice day. That wind makes it cold, and there just isn’t a lot of warmth in the sun this morning. I was thinking about going to Partridge Run and crusing the backroads, looking for land, but I don’t want to hike in the snow. Next weekend I might camp out that way though. That said despite the cold wind, ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ  it does make things a lot more cheery having some sun. ๐Ÿ˜€ Tomorrow looks much nicer for going back to work, on my bicycle, and then watching the eclipse in the afternoon.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:58 pm with sun having an altitude of 54.4° from the due south horizon (-16.4° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:51 pm with the sun in the west (274°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (281°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:29 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 57 seconds with dusk around 7:57 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:32 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 49 degrees. There will be a north-northeast breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 5 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 49 seconds over yesterday.

Yesterday the bike ride didn’t happen, ๐Ÿ“š๏ธ but I did get through reading an e-book and a physical book, one about the contracting process of building a house and the other about Tiny Houses. I am not that interest in a tiny house, but I want to learn as much as possible about the process of building a house and working with construction materials, plus I’m still thinking small but not tiny cabin style of house ๐Ÿ›– on lots of land. But will it happen this year? Maybe not. Okay, probably not. But I am learning a lot, and maybe if I do find a property that catches my eye and heart ๐Ÿฅฐ and I find a way to make peace  โœŒ๏ธ with the way things are in New York, I’ll be good.

Landlord was working on the unit next to mine,  ๐Ÿ˜๏ธ which I’m glad to see he’s improving before he re-rents it as it means I should be good in my current unit for another year, a bit at a somewhat higher rent. My apartment is still a dump, though I don’t blame myself that much for it at this point, but it’s not in anyone’s interest to improve my unit while I’m still here. I stay here because it’s cheap, not because it’s my only option. Been learning what it would take to improve my apartment, and while I won’t be doing it, I don’t feel guilty for things wearing out and being of need of repair over the past 15 years. I could have been more insistent on immediate repairs,  ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿ”ง but honestly I don’t care that much about a building that ain’t mind and is mostly a bed between days at work and trips. At least I don’t think I’m in immediate risk of eviction. Worse comes to worse, I move  ๐Ÿšš and end up paying more in rent. ๐Ÿ’ธ

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 30 degrees at 5am. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 29th. Northwest wind 5 to 8 mph. In 2023, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 28 degrees. The record low of 19 occurred back in 2018.

I am watching the forecast for tomorrow ๐ŸŒ˜ and it doesn’t look that bad for the eclipse. Sucks that I have to work, but I got eclipse glasses ๐Ÿ•ถ๏ธ for the whole team to enjoy watching the eclipse from the work parking lot most likely. Or maybe I’ll ride down to the Corning Preserve, though honestly I think the best view of the eclipse will be from the second floor of my building with the south side windows overlooking the Interstate 90 where the elevator is located.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Cinco de Mayo ๐Ÿค  when the sun will be setting at 8:01 pm with dusk at 8:31 pm. On that day in 2023, we had partly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 64 and 40 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 68 degrees. I’m looking forward to do days like that. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1944.
