October 21, 2018 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Two weeks to Daylight Savings Time Ends πŸ›₯️. Snow showers and 34 degrees in North Syracuse. ❄ First snow of the year. Not a big deal, but feels chilly with the breeze. There is a northwest breeze at 11 mph. πŸƒ. Cool morning but not enough to make things freeze or stick to the roads. Just light fluffy things coming out of the sky Temperatures will drop below freezing at Thursday around 1 am. β˜ƒοΈ

Today will have snow showers before 11am, then a chance of rain and snow showers between 11am and 1pm, then a slight chance of rain showers after 1pm. Mostly cloudy β˜” , with a high of 39 degrees at 2pm. 19 degrees below normal. Northwest wind 11 to 14 mph. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible on the grass, at least in the colder spots. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies with more clouds in the afternoon. The high last year was 74 degrees. The record high of 81 was set in 1979. 0.2 inches of snow fell back in 1926.❄

The sun will set at 6:11 pm with dusk around 6:39 pm, which is one minute and 33 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for rain ☁ and 38 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 11 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 45 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 47 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of snow showers, mainly after midnight. Mostly cloudy ❄ , with a low of 34 degrees at 6am. Four degrees below normal. West wind 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2017, we had mostly cloudy skies, clearing in the early hours of the next day. It got down to 40 degrees. The record low of 20 occurred back in 1959.

I’ve been watching the 3 week outlook and I’m increasingly concerned about the North Atlantic Oscillation starting to go further negative. It’s starting to look like the first half of November may be bitterly cold and maybe even a bit snowy or rainy. 🌨 That certainly wouldn’t be good for my road trip, especially the snow part. I guess i could do the National Forest for several days, as I believe Potomac Road is maintained year round, but I still don’t want to deal with snow or ice, much less cold rainy days if I can avoid it. I don’t mind the cold so much, although wind can be very cold to camp. πŸ• It will be still nice to be away from it all.

There are 16 days, 11 hours and 35 minutes until the poll close on Election Day in New York. πŸ—³ It keeps getting closer every day. I wonder when I will get my absentee ballot. It would be nice to be able to vote sooner then later. To be fair, I didn’t send my absentee application in until sometime last week, so many not arrive right away. πŸ“œ It’s also possible that it didn’t get sent to here but my home address, so I’ll have to wait to see if it arrives in the mail. πŸ“€

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Daylight Savings Time EndsΒ πŸŒ‡ when the sun will be setting at 4:51 pm with dusk at 5:21 pm (Standard Time). On that day in 2017, we had partly cloudy skies and temperatures between 50 and 33 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 53 degrees. We hit a record high of 76 back in 1994.

October 16, 2018 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Three weeks to Election Day 2018 πŸ—³οΈ. I wonder when I’ll get my absentee ballot so I can register my protest vote? Partly cloudy and 45 degrees in up here in Clay.Β β›… The sun seems to be clearing out. There is a west-southwest breeze at 11 mph. πŸƒ.Β Kind of chilly, especially with the breeze. Maybe today wasn’t a good day to go short-sleeved. I really need to get more long-sleeved shorts. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Thursday around 5 am. β˜ƒοΈ

I wanted to get out for a morning walk, but that didn’t happen. 😲 I couldn’t get in the bathroom in time, the weather didn’t look all that well, and when I got in the office, I ended up having a cup off coffee or two and got kind of busy. β˜• But so be it. I’ll try to get out on my lunch break and do some walking. On Friday, I’ll probably come into work to do some hiking. Maybe back down to Labrador Hollow, I liked that hike the other day. I should also try to get down to Green Lakes at some point to see the autumn color, although honestly I’ve been there a lot lately, and it seems like at least in the Syracuse area color is pretty limited.πŸ‚

Partly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny 🌞 , with a high of 53 degrees at 2pm. Seven degrees below normal. West wind 11 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly cloudy skies. The high last year was 60 degrees. The record high of 88 was set in 1947. There was a dusting of snow in 2009.❄ You know, I don’t remember that snow much. It must have been a while back — almost a decade has come and gone since 2009. Welcome to the future. It will be 2030 before you know it. That’s why it’s so important to save for the future, especially if the economy becomes more destabilized as we march towards a even larger quantities of carbon in the atmosphere, says the boy with the big jacked up truck.

The sun will set at 6:19 pm with dusk around 6:48 pm, which is one minute and 37 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies β›… and 49 degrees. There will be a west-southwest breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 58 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly after 5am. Mostly cloudy ☁, with a low of 44 degrees at 4am. Four degrees above normal. Southwest wind 8 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2017, we had partly cloudy skies, clearing in the early hours of the next day. It got down to 31 degrees. The record low of 21 occurred back in 1940.

There are 21 days, 11 hours and 55 minutes until the poll close on Election Day in New York. πŸ—³It can’t come soon enough in my perspective. And heck, I am not even really following politics although I listened to the 538 podcast last night before bed, and I certainly hear from a lot of people who are a lot more passionate about politics then I am.

Did I mention that today is pay day? End of the day, though. Okay, that makes me happy. πŸ’΅ I have a certificate of deposit that is expiring in the next few weeks, and I will roll it into a larger higher-interest probably in the next few weeks. While I’m continuing to buy more index funds, I think things are still well overpriced, especially as some point values will depress for a while during the next recession.

Still thinking about what my November trip will be like. i am leaning towards visiting Chimney Point State Park as part of vacation, as it’s really a pretty good trip from Syracuse, and I want more time to explore it without being bothered by work stuff.🚢Probably would drive down to the Finger Lakes National Forest, although I really have to watch the clock, because that point the sun will be setting around 4:45 PM and I don’t want to drive in the dark, even though my headlights are much better on my truck then they used to be..

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Election Day 2018 πŸ—³οΈ when the sun will be setting at 4:49 pm with dusk at 5:19 pm (Standard Time). On that day in 2017, we had rain, mist, cloudy skies and temperatures between 63 and 42 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 52 degrees. We hit a record high of 73 back in 2015.

Government Shutdown Didn't Shutdown the Grazers

September 22, 2018 Night

Good evening! Happy Autumn. Partly cloudy and 50 degrees in Fayetteville. β›… Calm wind. Definitely feels like an autumn evening with a good chill in the air.🍂

Definitely a fantastic sunset tonight here in the Syracuse area. 🌄 Loads of color for sure and I had a great view from Green Lakes State Park overlooking Minoa and Fayetteville. The hills hide most of the development and the bird conservation area is fantastic for viewing wildlife without the crowds. 🐸

Tonight will be partly cloudy ☁, with a low of 42 degrees at 5am. Seven degrees below normal. Light and variable wind. Definitely an autumn night. In 2017, we had partly cloudy skies, clearing in the early hours of the next day. It got down to 53 degrees. The record low of 32 occurred back in 1963.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous Moon 🌔 with 96% illuminated. The moon will set at 4:59 am. The Harvest Moon 🌕 will be tomorrow with a chance of showers. Shine on harvest moon! The sun will rise at 6:52 am with the first light at 6:23 am, which is one minute and 6 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 11 hours and 52 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 55 seconds over last night. Sometime next week we will start having more night than day time. Winter is coming! ❄

Tomorrow will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 66 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees below normal. Maximum dew point of 48 at 4pm. Light and variable wind. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies. The high last year was 85 degrees. Pretty warm for sure that day when I was camping up at Moose River Plains. The record high of 97 was set in 1895.

Looks like a a nice day to do some hiking and enjoying of the day. 😎 It’s no going to be long before sunny days in the mid 60s are a rarity. I have stuff to do tomorrow so I can’t venture out too far but maybe I’ll follow up my evening hike today with a hike along the Erie Canal tomorrow. I also want to spend some time hiking along Onondaga Lake at the county park but I think I’ll hold off for later in the month. Syracuse downtown is pretty overlooking the lake especially when there is some fog on it during a nice crisp morning. 🏃

Yesterday when I was out hiking my digital camera battery went dead, so I don’t have much video and I couldn’t use my telephoto lens. 📷 Still it was a nice evening for a walk. The camera battery is charging now. I should have left it charging all day as the accessory battery in my truck remains really well charged even with the short trips for work due to the ample sun over the past few days hitting the solar panel.

I do miss being home and even more so camping β›Ί but I’m well paid for my work and enjoy the travel. Lots of nice people you meet along the way and it’s providing me with extra money to put away towards my long term savings goals of owning land and an off-grid cabin where I can finally have my own space that is more than just a temporary residence in the wilderness. 🌲 I do have some camping gear in my truck so I might be able to get away for a night but honestly I’m looking forward to those long November nights next to the campfire, using my camp oven and making delicious meals. 🍝 Right now where I’m working I lack a stove, oven and freezer, so while I can cook some things or get take out it’s nothing like a good meal cooked in the wilderness.

I have been working on uploading📤 some of the essays and other interactive content of developed for my blog over the summer and plan to be featuring more of it over the coming weeks. 💻 Last week moving to the new office and attending that wake back in Albany meant I didn’t have a lot of free time to post to the blog but I am good with stuff going forward – it’s more just a matter of getting the final tweaks done before it goes live. 📝

In four weeks on October 20 the sun will be setting at 6:12 pm,🌄 which is 47 minutes and 57 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2017 on that day, we had sunny skies and temperatures between 71 and 46 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 58 and 38 degrees. The record high of 80 degrees was set back in 1965.

Looking ahead, Average High is 60 🍂 is in 3 weeks, Northern Zone Regular Season 🦌 is in 4 weeks, Regular Deer Season in Southern Zone 🦌 is in 8 weeks and Thanksgiving 🦃 is in 2 months.

August 3, 2018 Morning

Good morning! Already it’s Friday! Two more days before I take down camp and head back to Albany. It’s been a very cloudy week but relatively rain free, at least compared to the previous week or even last year. With the end of vacation coming up on Sunday, we will already be in August, today marks three weeks to Average High Falls To 79 ️Degrees ⛱️️️.

The rain had stopped, but now it’s restarted and around 69 degrees at the Finger Lakes National Forest in Hector. ☁ There is a south breeze at 6 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 66 degrees. The second half of this week has been quite muggy and cloudy although each day we’ve had a bit of clearing skies. The cowboys, or a guess graizers or farmers are out on the pasture across the street rounding up cows using four wheelers on this somewhat wet morning. 🐂🐃🐄

Today will have showers likely, with thunderstorms also possible after noon. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Cloudy β˜” , with a high of 74 degrees at 2pm. Seven degrees below normal. Maximum dew point of 67 at 6pm. South wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies. It was humid. The high last year was 86 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1975.

Today’s plans will be similar to Wednesday, probably head into Watkins Glen later to get on the internet and then for a hike in the gorge and a swim in the pool. 🏊 I’m hoping for more sun later, but I’ll take it hour by hour. I need paper towels, matches and gasoline too. β›½This morning, I’ll probably hang out at camp for a while, laying in the hammock listening to the radio, maybe going for a short walk later on.

Tonight in the Finger Lakes, the sun will set at 8:24 pm with dusk around 8:55 pm, which is one minute and 13 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for clouds ☁with a chance of thunderstorms ⚑ and 70 degrees. The dew point will be 67 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 21 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 15 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy β˜” , with a low of 66 degrees at 6am. Four degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 67 at 6pm. South wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2017, we had mostly cloudy skies. It was sticky. It got down to 70 degrees. The record low of 46 occurred back in 1966.

As I brought my kayak all the way out to Watkins Glen, I really should put it to use at least once. 🚣 Especially as Saturday will be one of the most beautiful days of vacation. One option I’ve been thinking about is backtracking to Montezuma for a day and paddling along the Seneca Canal. That’s about an hour each way. Another option, is to put in on Seneca Lake in Watkins Glen and paddle the Montour Falls Canal, assuming that the lake isn’t too choppy and the canal isn’t flooding and mucky from today’s rain. After I did that I could hit up the Watkins Glen pool and deck one last time to soak up the rays before its done as far as I’m concerned for the year. Then obviously, one last hit of the Glen Dairy Bar.🍦🍧🍨 Another fall back is paddle and fish Lamoka Lake after visiting the Sugar Hill Firetower. Going to be such a beautiful and hot day on Saturday.

Come Sunday it’s the tear down that campsite day. β›Ί Yeap, vacation is coming to an end and I’ll have to head back to the old Albany to make more money, 🏢 so I can continue to invest in my future. 💰Going to be such a nice day, I’m thinking maybe I should get an early start taking down camp on Sunday, maybe hike Enfield Glen before eleven,🏊 then go swimming in the Gorge pool until 12:30 or one, then be back to Albany NY by four. 🕔

Despite the lack of sun, it’s been a good vacation. 😥I’m sure I will probably have a few more opportunities for weekend trips this summer, and I look forward to hunting season and my November road trip, which I’m thinking will have a day or two in the Finger Lakes, although the focus will be primarily more on the Western New York and probably Pennsylvania. West Virginia remains a possibility but not a certainty at this point, I’m still evaluating my options. 🗻

I love being out in the wilderness, and look forward to owning my own land and living off grid in a low tax high freedom state. 🔥🔫🐂 I wish everyday could be as much fun as my camping adventures, and not just be the daily grind in the city, with the toilet and refrigerator I’m always struggling with at home, or all the restrictions that come with living in the city. The rural landscapes and the hills and valleys really stir my soul and remind me there are things to life beyond that dirty, rundown apartment in the city that the rent keeps going up on.

When I get back home, I have to schedule an oil change for Big Red and I have an eye appointment on Thursday.👀 I have a coupon from the General for a $50 synthetic oil change and tire rotation, which is a good deal but it does mean having to bring it all the way back up to DeNoyer in Colonie.🚗 But then I shouldn’t need an oil change until late winter or early spring, and I’ll have contacts for the year.

I am going to create a new Facebook Page for my blog over the next few weeks. 📰 The new changes to Facebook API makes it impossible to automatically post from my blog to my Facebook profile, but if I have a page I can continue to easily post all my posts and photos to Facebook. I’ll probably share some of what I post on blog and Facebook Page to my personal profile but looking at the tools and options available for Facebook Pages, I think I make the switch sooner rather than later.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Average High Falls To 79 ️Degrees ⛱️️️ when the sun will be setting at 7:54 pm with dusk at 8:23 pm in the Finger Lakes. Figure about 15 minutes earlier back in Albany. On that day in 2017, we had partly cloudy skies and temperatures between 75 and 56 degrees. We hit a record high of 95 back in 1947.

June 2, 2018 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 65 degrees in Delmar, NY. 🌌 There is a north breeze at 8 mph. 🍃. But chilly this evening with the breeze. The dew point is 54 degrees. I guess it’s better than a really muggy night.

Definitely a fairly starry evening although I wish my neighbor would turn off his pointless flood lights πŸ’‘so I could enjoy my flickering lights on the trees. At least the coal tar on the driveway is less stinky at this point. More fireflies continue to pop up around. 🐝

Today I got my hair cut and went up to visit my niece in Saratoga County with the parents. 👦 I had gotten so shaggy, and really needed a hair cut. Not a half bad day, I thought about going to the river to go fishing this evening but I was afraid it would be buggy and I don’t like driving home after dark. 🎣I just do catch and release in the river, it’s more about losing tackle and enjoying sitting by the river with a beer as the sunsets than actual food to eat. I also don’t really like having to drive around the city more than necessary. Bad for my truck and it causes air pollution. 📱Instead I walked down to the park with my laptop and uploaded some photos and videos.

Stayed down at the park until nine. Sat on the uncomfortable park bench rather than laying on the grass because I’m tired of having deer and dog tickets climb all over my bare skin, especially with shorts on. Maybe that’s why I feel so achy tonight, not because I was with my germy niece. Little kids touch everything. I’m not much better with rubbing my nose and eyes, to say nothing of putting pens in my mouth. I do try to wash my hands more often and carefully now though.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ☁, with a low of 56 degrees at 5am. Three degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 54 at 10pm. North wind 5 to 8 mph becoming east after midnight. In 2017, we had partly cloudy skies. It got down to 45 degrees. The record low of 36 occurred back in 1986.

Tonight will have a Waning Gibbous Moon 🌖 with 82% illuminated. The moon will set at 9:35 am. The Last Quarter Moon is on Tuesday night with mostly cloudy skies. The Strawberry Moon 🌝 is on Wednesday, June 27th. The sun will rise at 5:19 am with the first light at 4:45 am, which is 26 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 8 hours and 51 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 9 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny 🌞 , with a high of 73 degrees at 3pm. One degree below normal. Maximum dew point of 50 at 1pm. A bit cool but clear. Southeast wind around 9 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies. The high last year was 72 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1925.

Not sure what my plans are for tomorrow, maybe hiking Bennett Hill. Not too far away, and it’s been a while since I’ve been up it. The new clearings up top makes for interesting views. 🗻I thought about loading the kayak on my truck and going for a paddle but I don’t know. Going to be kind of cold. But I do need to adjust the racks on my kayak. Maybe also do some shore fishing at Lawson Lake. 🎣

Once again fixed the display I built in my bedroom after breaking it with some other changes. I cut the data transfer speed to it which was problematic I think with the long lines. 💻It works really well now, provides a great time waster in my bedroom. I just another set of those modules in green from China, I’m going to build a second one for use either in my kitchen or maybe the office. The small display I built in my office is no longer cutting it I must admit. It’s just something fun to duck around with when the weather is crappy.

In four weeks on June 30 the sun will be setting at 8:37 pm,🌄 which is 9 minutes and 24 seconds later then tonight. In 2017 on that day, we had thunderstorm, thunderstorm rain, rain, patches of fog, mist, partly cloudy skies and temperatures between 84 and 70 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 81 and 60 degrees. The record high of 98 degrees was set back in 1964. Amazing to think how fast July will be upon us. Monday will mark one month until the Fourth of July which really ain’t a holiday because it falls mid week. Ducking horseshit that the fourth is on a Wednesday. I’m blaming Trump, just because this my blog and I can do that.

I am thinking of taking off the last week of July for my vacation but I really need to talk to my supervisor about what is the best week. I usually like that last week but we will see. 🏖️ That last week of July is now seven weeks away per the display in my bedroom.

For a while I’ve been thinking about taking off next Friday and making it a three day trip, β›Ί although lately the forecast has slid down hill at least for Friday. Might still be a nice weekend trip. Where to go is to be decided but Pisceo Powley Road and Madison County top the list. I like that Cherry Ridge Campground, especially as it has cell service but I don’t know I’d rather have more of a wilderness experience next weekend back on a dirt road where I can enjoy my music late into the night. I’m tired of the packed in city experience every day and night. I mean Cherry Ridge is larger than any commercial or state campground and half the sites will be empty but I still rather have a mile between me and the next group of campers. I’m going to monitor the weather some more before deciding. I need my space.

Looking ahead, First Sunday of Advent ✝️ is in 6 months. Fantastic.

January 25, 2018 Evening

Good evening! Mostly clear and 24 degrees in Delmar, NY. 🌌There is a northwest breeze at 14 mph. The current wind chill is 12. It was a somewhat chilly evening waiting out for the bus. It’s nice going home and it’s not already pitch black.

Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low of 11 degrees at 4am. 🌠Four degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around 9 at 6pm; Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light west after midnight. In 2017, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 36 degrees. The record low of -17 occurred back in 1920.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous Moon 🌖with 64% illuminated. The moon will set tonight at 1:54 am. The Blue Moon is on Tuesday night with mostly cloudy skies. The sun will rise at 7:15 am with the first light at 6:44 am, which is 51 seconds earlier than yesterday. Tonight will have 14 hours and 13 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 10 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny, with a high of 31 degrees at 2pm. β˜€Typical for tomorrow. Calm wind becoming southeast around 6 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had cloudy skies with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 48 degrees. The record high of 59 was set in 1950. 8.5 inches of snow fell back in 1949.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. Saturday, a slight chance of showers after 4pm. β›…Partly sunny, with a high near 48. South wind 7 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Sunday, a chance of rain and snow showers before 8am, then a chance of rain showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 45β›…💧. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Typical average high for the weekend is 31 degrees.

I noticed that my Christmas Cactus is starting to bloom again. 🌺Last week I moved from a desk with less sunlight to one that has a lot more southernly and westerly exposure to the sun. Not only do I have a great view in my new office of the Catskill Mountains and the Heldebergs, my plant is really loving all the extra sunlight. My new desk is really nice, I get to see the sun set every night.

Taking an old NOVA bus home tonight but it seems to be running fine. 🚌 Those NOVA busses are old mules, they keep on running pretty good for a long time. Traffic is light on the 787 at least southbound. Not so true going northbound.

I think I’ve figured out how to move some of the strings in my Arduino display project into PROGRAM ROM flash, which should sufficent ample resources remain to finish my display project.📺 I want to add some code to blink a few LEDs on and off for ambience but I expect to be done shortly. Now it’s just off to building the case this weekend. Once I have a case, I’ll order the Arduino Nano which I plan to use to permanently run it which will be more efficient. I am looking forward to moving on to further projects.

I haven’t decided whether I will walk down to the library or just go for a walk tonight, but I do want to stretch my legs after dinner.🏃 I may play around with cutting some of the plexiglass tonight. I should bring it in from my truck, it is probably really cold. 🚘

In four weeks on February 22 the sun will be setting at 5:37 pm, which is 36 minutes and 27 seconds later then today. In 2017 on that day, we had rain, partly cloudy skies and temperatures between 57 and 38 degrees. 😮Typically, you have temperatures between 36 and 19 degrees. The record high of 68 degrees was set back in 1997.

Looking ahead, Memorial Day Weekend Starts is in 4 months.🌼🌻 We may be in the dark of winter but it won’t last. I’m looking forward to some nicer days as spring approaches, even if that means dealing with the Black Flies. 🐜

This afternoon I was looking at some of the photos on my screensaver and was thinking I really miss traveling and seeing places. This year if the weather is nice in mid-April I might take a trip to the North County. 🌄 Haven’t been up there in a while.
