April 26, 2019 Afternoon

Good afternoon! Cloudy, damp with rain showers around and 55 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a southeast breeze at 13 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 49 degrees. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Monday around 3 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

As I had pretty much planned since mid week I’m back home from my two nights in the Adirondacks. โ›บ Yes I can camp in the pouring rain, I have tarps the heater and could build a big fire but do I really want to? I would have stayed north had things cleared out tomorrow but it looks like most of the day tomorrow in the Adirondacks will be bitterly cold with the wind and damp ground with very little sun expected.๐Ÿ’ฆ Rather than be crouched over a propane heater, spending the day adjusting a tarp to avoid leaks and dumping off the accumulated puddle of rain, I figure it best to come home and get unpacked ๐Ÿก. Yesterday was a great day, and I got two nights camping so that was a good time.

This afternoon will rain with possibly a thunderstorm between 1pm and 5pm, then a chance of rain and thunderstorms after 5pm. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 60 degrees at 5pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around April 19th. Maximum dew point of 51 at 2pm. Southeast wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had cloudy in the morning, which became partly cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 56 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 1990. .3 inches of snow fell back in 1993.โ„

The sun will set at 7:50 pm with dusk around 8:20 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 59 degrees. The dew point will be 51 degrees. There will be a southeast breeze at 13 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 54 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 36 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 2am, then a chance of showers. ๐ŸŒง Low of 48 degrees at 6am. Six degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around May 15th. Southeast wind 6 to 13 mph becoming southwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2018, we had mostly clear in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 36 degrees. The record low of 26 occurred back in 1963.

It wasn’t a bad few days up north but this morning was unnecessarily wet for me as I didn’t take apart camp last night ๐ŸŒƒ before bed like I had planned. Not a big deal the only thing really wet was the flags and the bungee cords. They’re hanging up at home drying out now. Last night was pretty good, I made some pizza ๐Ÿ• up then had a fairly reasonable sized fire from the wood I chopped. The axe makes for much easier firewood ๐ŸŒฒprocessing. Solar worked okay but not great as there was too much shading in the campsite. If it had been a little warmer and the road was drier I would have camped back at the Fox Lair campsite especially now that I know there is fairly decent cell service there ๐Ÿ“ถ probably from Gore Mountain. It’s nice being able to check the weather and the news with the phone. ๐Ÿ“ฑ I’ll have to keep that campsite in mind come later in the summer.

The cellphone holder ๐Ÿ“ฑ I got from China continues to work quite well. It holds the phone very firmly no worries about it bouncing loose on the rough roads. I don’t touch my phone while driving but I like having WAZE and the bell ๐Ÿ”” that rings when you reach the speed limit. With cruise control working perfectly again on my truck, as soon as I hear the bell I hit the cruise control button and I don’t have to worry about speeding. I really like cruise control especially in the reduced speed zones. ๐Ÿš™

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Pack Rat Day ๐Ÿ€ when the sun will be setting at 8:13 pm with dusk at 8:45 pm. On that day in 2018, we had mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 80 and 59 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 70 degrees. We hit a record high of 92 back in 2017.

 Mount Marcy

April 25, 2019 Afternoon

Good afternoon! Three weeks until the average high is 70 in Albany. ๐Ÿฎ But still a pretty nice day here in the Sieamese Pond Wilderness. Blue skies and sunny and 53 degrees at the end of the East Branch Sacandaga River Gorge Trail. There is a southwest breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Sunday around 2 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

This afternoon will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 62 degrees at 4pm. One degree below normal for Albany, which is similiar to a typical day around April 24th. Not terrible for being in the Adirondack Wilderness in the spring. Southwest wind around 5 mph. Really not a cloud in the sky. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which tapered off to light drizzle by afternoon. The high last year was 57 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 2009. 0.3 inches of snow fell back in 1928.โ„That’s the year they laid the cornerstone of the office building I work at far away from the wilderness I’m currently at.

Yesterday I kind of got stuck in the office ๐Ÿข until 5:30 so I didn’t get on the road until 5:45 but I drove straight out to Amsterdam so I was up to camp around 7:45. I kind of had some trouble getting the lantern ๐Ÿฎ started after replacing then again breaking a mantle but then I got it working after fiddling for a few minutes. It kind of was getting dark and I forgot to bring a bright ๐Ÿ”† light bulb ๐Ÿ’ก but with the flash light I finally got it going. Then I got the fire started ๐Ÿ”ฅ which really took off with some of the brush and other stuff that they had cut out for the new privy they built up at the campsite. ๐Ÿ’ฉ I was the first one to use it. The lights were up and the fire going good by 9ish and I stayed up listening ๐Ÿ‘‚ to podcasts until around 11:30. An obnoxious barred owl occasionally woke me up during the night with his who? Who? But so be it. ๐Ÿ˜ด

Today I hiked back to the East Branch Gorge Trail aftee hiking around Fox Lair for a while which I took pictures with from my other camera. ๐Ÿ“ท This time the trail wasn’t so icy unlike the time I tried it in 2014. ๐Ÿšถ Still its a pain to find the trail head, the best way to find it is to bushwhack following the East Branch until you reach the somewhat challenging to cross Kibby Pond outlook then follow it until you spot and old woods road and then ford the creek on the rocks and look for a herd path across from the old woods road. You never leave the view of the East Branch although at one point you do get quite a way above the gorge on the herd path up a good sized mountain. I was pretty underwhelmed by the end of the trail which had a pretty unimpressive designated tent ๐ŸŽช spot and then a relatively small water falls, maybe at most 20 feet tall. Further down the trail where the gorge is narrower is more impressive.

The sun will set at 7:52 pm with dusk around 8:22 pm, which is one minute and 11 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 57 degrees. Should be a delightful evening once I get that campfire ๐Ÿ”ฅ a roaring and some good eats cooking. There will be a south breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 55 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 42 seconds over yesterday. Almost to the point of the the fourteenth hour day.

Tonight will rain likely, mainly after 5am. Increasing clouds ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 41 degrees at 5am. Typical for tonight. Southeast wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2018, we had light rain in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 39 degrees. The record low of 24 occurred back in 1972.

Tomorrow will have periods of rain. The rain could be heavy at times. ๐ŸŒง High of 49 degrees at 2pm. 14 degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around March 27th. Southeast wind 8 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became light drizzle by afternoon. The high last year was 56 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 1990. 0.3 inches of snow fell back in 1993.โ„

Today is definitely a beautiful day ๐Ÿ˜Ž but maybe not so much tomorrow.๐Ÿ˜ฐ โ˜” I’m going to enjoy today and tonight I guess tomorrow I’ll head home. If it’s going to pour than be followed by cold rainy weekend no reason to stay up north. I would have liked a four day weekend but I had a nice big ass fire last night and the hike back to the East Branch of the Sacandaga River Gorge is pretty nice although I have to admit I’m a little bit under impressed the falls. The trail really ends after the narrows of the gorge and the most scenic part is relatively unaccessible. But the best is yet to come of the summer …

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ when the sun will be setting at 8:16 pm with dusk at 8:49 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 72 and 51 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 70 degrees. We hit a record high of 89 back in 1991.

Not a particularly nice weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜ž Saturday, showers, mainly before 11am. High near 44. West wind 15 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Sunday, showers likely, mainly after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 46. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Typical average high for the weekend is 63 degrees.

In four weeks on May 23 the sun will be setting at 8:23 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 8 seconds later then today. In 2018 on that day, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 81 and 56 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 72 and 49 degrees. The record high of 93 degrees was set back in 1964.

Looking ahead, Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ is in 3 weeks, Summer ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 8 weeks, Independence Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 10 weeks, August ๐ŸŒป is in 14 weeks, More Night then Day ๐ŸŒŒ is in 5 months and Last Sunset After 7 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 23 weeks.

 Looking at the Lake

April 19, 2019 Morning

Good afternoon! Today is Good Friday โœ๏ธ! Four weeks to Pack Rat Day ๐Ÿ€. Nothing like a good fire to celebrate that. ๐Ÿ”ฅ Mostly cloudy and 67 degrees at the Five Rivers Environmental Education Center. โ˜ There is a south breeze at 13 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 57 degrees. I figured that I had today off from work and it would be a nice thing to walk out here. Tomorrow is going to be rather wet and not much sun is expected until Easter Sunday. The skies will clear Sunday around 4 pm.

Ever since I’ve started walking out to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center I’ve started to appreciate it more. Walking out here you get to see the transitioning landscape from suburbia to a more rural landscape, ๐Ÿธ and somehow the nature seems more real than when you fly out here in motorized transportation. ๐Ÿš™ Plus the walk is free ๐Ÿšถ The rail trail ๐Ÿš‚is nice but it lacks the benches, bathrooms and solitude of the environmental education center.

Today will have a chance of showers, mainly after 3pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 72 degrees at 2pm. 12 degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around May 23rd. Maximum dew point of 58 at 1pm. South wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy. The high last year was 44 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1976. 8.8 inches of snow fell back in 1983.โ„

I have no rush today at Five Rivers for a change, absolutely nothing planned for this afternoon. I can just sit an observe the natural world as long as I want. ๐Ÿฆ Kind of nice for a change. Everything lately seems rushed or on a schedule.โŒ›

Ever since I started listening to John Burroughs books on Libre Vox, I’ve started to enjoy more and more nature study. ๐Ÿ“™ Not necessarily just looking for one species but observing animal behavior. Maybe hunting and fishing got me started but there is much to learn in the woods and wilderness. ๐ŸŒฒEven just watching cows ๐Ÿฎ march through rip and munch grass can be pretty fascinating to me. I used to be a much more of a go-go-go type person when I was younger in the woods but now I like to study and observe more.

The sun will set at 7:42 pm with dusk around 8:12 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for rain showers ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 69 degrees. The dew point will be 58 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 35 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 43 seconds over yesterday.

Once I get back home this afternoon, I’ll have lunch and go down to the library. ๐Ÿ“– Mostly just to use the internet, maybe I’ll get a book out. Probably spend a few hours down there and maybe download some more videos to watch while riding the exercise bike. There is no shortage of videos this time of year on trout fishing, spreading manure or discing fields this time of year on the YouTube. Spring turkey too. Plus it’s interesting to find out what folks are doing on the many homesteading and off grid channels I follow. ๐ŸŽง To take it with me when I hike or ride the bus, I’ve written a script to convert the videos into audio files. Some videos really are better just to listen to the audio too.

Tonight will have showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. ๐ŸŒง Low of 64 degrees at 11pm. 25 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 62 at 4am. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ South wind 10 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. In 2018, we had mostly clear in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 31 degrees. The record low of 19 occurred back in 1875.

Next weekends forecast is shaping up nicely. Depending if it stays on course I may very well just take off Thursday and Friday to go up to the Adirondacks. โ›บ That will be four nights in the wilderness which means I’ll have to move my site after three nights but I can relocate my campsite the day I head fishing ๐ŸŽฃ or hiking. ๐Ÿšถ Lots of sun means lots of solar power which is great and hopefully I can rely primarily on the solar to keep the battery ๐Ÿ”‹ charged. Looking forward to some nights in the wilderness.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Pack Rat Day ๐Ÿ€ when the sun will be setting at 8:13 pm with dusk at 8:45 pm. On that day in 2018, we had mostly cloudy and temperatures between 80 and 59 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 70 degrees. We hit a record high of 92 back in 2017.

 Central Avenue

April 15, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tax Day ๐Ÿ’ฐ! New York hasn’t taken it two hundred and half pounds ๐Ÿ’ท of flesh but it’s happening soon. Next Monday is Earth Day ๐ŸŒŽ. Looking forward the following weekend to having a big ass fire, ๐Ÿ”ฅ eating off paper plates and enjoying the Earth up in the wilderness. A break in the clouds with some sun and 55 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. โ›… Calm wind. The dew point is 51 degrees. Just waiting for the bus to depart and head downtown.

Taking the express bus ๐Ÿš downtown for my defensive driving course. The safest thing is not to get behind the wheel of your own car but let the professionals do the driving. When I get to class, I’ll have to power down my phone so no more posts except some scheduled ones until later.

Today will have showers likely, mainly before 9am. Mostly cloudy, with a temperature falling to around 46 by 5pm. Breezy, with a light and variable wind becoming west 15 to 20 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 36 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy in the morning, which became light drizzle by afternoon. The high last year was 36 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 2003. 2.4 inches of snow fell back in 2014.โ„

The sun will set at 7:37 pm with dusk around 8:06 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 41 degrees. Blustery, ๐ŸŒฌ with a stiff breeze at 26 mph the west-northwest with gusts up to 47mph. Today will have 13 hours and 24 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 46 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have isolated showers before 10pm. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 37 degrees at 3am. One degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical night around April 14th. Windy, with a northwest wind 20 to 26 mph, with gusts as high as 47 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2018, we had light rain in the evening, which became rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 32 degrees. The record low of 22 occurred back in 1981.

As previously noted, next Monday is Earth Day ๐ŸŒŽ when the sun will be setting at 7:45 pm with dusk at 8:15 pm. On that day in 2018, we had sunny and temperatures between 65 and 29 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 61 degrees. We hit a record high of 86 back in 1985.

Forest

Boots!

This year, prior to camping season, I am going to get myself a pair of inexpensive farm muck boots to use while I’m out in the wilderness. Don’t get my wrong, I like my insulated hunting boots, but there is no way in hell I’m going to wear $100 huntin’ boots around a campfire where I could accidentally melt or burn ’em by getting too close to the fire on a cold night.

But at the same time, I really need something that is waterproof, especially if I plan to spend more time up at the Finger Lakes National Forest or other high-elevation, shallow soil area where the mud and muck is intensively deep. Work boots don’t cut it when your dealing with mud that is ankle deep.ย And deep mud, is just part of spending time in the woods, just like it’s part of time spending time on a farm.

Mount Wahington State Forest

April 11, 2019 Night

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 46 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Calm wind. Mild enough that when I went down to the library for the Wi-Fi I sat outside on the park bench. ๐Ÿ“š Got progressively cloudy as the day went on with the sky very dark around rush hour. The skies will clear Saturday around 8 am.

Busy tough day at work. What got done and needed to happen got done so I got paid. ๐Ÿ’ผ But in many ways it was a long day. At least I got the replacement sensor for the truck so hopefully that will work well going forward.

Traffic on the bus ride ๐Ÿš home wasn’t bad. Made it home around the normal time and saved money ๐Ÿ’ต too boot as it was a free bus ride as I had already ridden three buses for the day and the rest are free for the day. ๐Ÿ†“

It looks like they finally cleaned up the hotel ๐Ÿฉ that burned on Southern Boulevard about two years later and the new suburban development should be errected there. Apparently they never discovered the reason for the fire but I suspect the owner torched it to reduce asbestos abatement costs. That’s my thoughts ๐Ÿ’ญ and we know who profits over their asbestos landfill – the city.

Before heading over to the library I cleaned out the refrigerator and found a half empty bottle of wine ๐Ÿท from Finger Lakes Wine Night at the Capitol a year ago and drank it so I could recycle it. The refrigerator is cleaned out and do are the bottles and cans โ™ป and the wine was still good with the pasta despite being first opened 11 months ago. The wine was remarkably good with the pasta although if I hadn’t gotten it for free I doubt I would have drunk it. First alcohol in like three weeks. But now I can recycle the bottle ๐Ÿถ.

Fixed some bugs ๐Ÿž in the internal blog code and made some more orthophotos up at the library. If it had been a bit nicer with a later sunset I probably would have just gone to the park.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 39 degrees at 4am. Three degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around April 19th. Light southeast wind. In 2018, we had mostly clear in the evening, which became mostly sunny by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 29 degrees. The record low of 13 occurred back in 1874.

Tonight will have a First Quarter with 53% illuminated. The moon will set at 2:06 am. Not going to see much tonight with the clouds. The Pink Moon ๐ŸŒ is next Thursday. Only pink if you wear rose ๐ŸŒน colored glasses. ๐Ÿ‘“ The sun will rise at 6:19 am with the first light at 5:50 am, which is one minute and 40 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 10 hours and 44 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 47 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 57 degrees at 5pm. Typical for Tomorrow. South wind 10 to 15 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy. The high last year was 54 degrees. The record high of 84 was set in 1977. 3.3 inches of snow fell back in 1962.โ„

I might open up the windows tomorrow morning as I always like the fresh air. ๐Ÿ”ณ Next week I think I’ll be able to have the windows open most of the week, certainly Sunday.

Saturday will be the best part of the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, a chance of showers, mainly before 7am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 72. Southwest wind 6 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Maximum dew point of 53 at 6am. Sunday, rain likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 60. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Doesn’t sound like a real wash out Sunday but not a lot of sun. Typical average high for the weekend is 57 degrees.

My weekend plans remain the same – transfer station, brake switch, pack camping gear โ›บ. I’ll have to see if I can go out to my parents house on Saturday. Sunday I’ll probably stay home or if I go out it just will be to the store for groceries. Monday is going to suck with Defensive Driving. I really need to look at other good insurers like Gieco or Progressive as even with the discount my rates just keep jumping up. My truck is getting old and while I have good coverage to protect my hard earned savings, the rates are getting a bit steep.

So I have the brake switch and I’ve been studying about four or five YouTube videos on how to pull off the clip and the module. ๐Ÿฅ It doesn’t look hard but I don’t want to mess shit up by doing bone headed things. I just want my cruise control back.

In four weeks on May 9 the sun will be setting at 8:04 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 35 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had sunny and temperatures between 82 and 53 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 67 and 45 degrees. The record high of 93 degrees was set back in 1979.

My electric and gas bill fell to $61 last month because I had the heat off most of last month. That’s a pretty big drop from February when it was $104 and I started to think I was a soldier on the war on poverty. ๐Ÿ”Œ Knowing how fees are, probably $50 is just fees for being connected to the grid and $9 is the water heater and the refrigerator. Or something like that.

I retired the debt on the credit card ๐Ÿ’ณ that had to be retired and the state tax payment comes out on Monday. Tuesday I get paid by the state which is good. ๐Ÿ‘‹ If the weather is good next weekend I should be able to afford to get out of town but I’m also fine with staying in town and waiting another week for more snow melt and ๐Ÿ’ง and potentially warmer weather.

Looking ahead, Average High is 60 ๐ŸŒผ is in 1 week, Pink Moon ๐ŸŒ• is also in 1 week, Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ is in 5 weeks, Summer ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 10 weeks, Independence Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 12 weeks, August ๐ŸŒป is in 16 weeks, September 11th ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 5 months and Last Sunset After 7 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 25 weeks.

Snow Melt Coming Down the Mountain

April 8, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. The problem is all inside your head she said to me. The answer is simple if you take it logically. Next Monday is Tax Day ๐Ÿ’ฐ. Happy poverty day next week. Cloudy, damp, but no rain right now around 52 degrees in the land of the Delmaritian. โ˜” There is a light south-southeast breeze. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 46 degrees. I’m thinking ๐Ÿ’ญ the rain should start greening up the grass in city. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Thursday around 1 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Hop on the bus Gus, don’t need to discuss much. With the dark skies โ˜ it was had to get going this morning and I sprinted down to the bus stop ๐Ÿšas the bus approached. It’s a Monday but I’m hoping this won’t be too ungodly of a week at work. ๐ŸฆTaking a regular 40 foot bus downtown, Gillig 4175. I had a bit of a headache this morning, which made it tough to get out of bed early.

Today will have a chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 11am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 67 degrees at 5pm. 12 degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around May 6th. Maximum dew point of 51 at 2pm. South wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had partly cloudy in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 39 degrees. The record high of 88 was set in 1929. 4.5 inches of snow fell back in 1907.โ„

Back to work today. Not a pay day today but one next week. I’m fine with that as next Monday is tax day when I pay the state and then the following Tuesday the state pays me a paycheck. ๐Ÿ”„ It’s called recycling. It’s what you do Earth Day that is for the cans and others things that don’t burn well. Granted I always try to do good work for my paycheck, I can’t say the opposite is true. I think I’m signed up for defensive driving that day, I’ll have to check my schedule and take the appropriate day off from work.

I can’t complain that much about the rain โ˜” as things were getting kind of dried out yesterday and there was a brush fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ yesterday up by Tommells Feedlot ๐Ÿฎ or maybe the Clarksville dump and transfer station. While one can say Pete Grannis’ open burning regulations are retarded, you can see the sensibility of the regulations in Virginia that ban burning before six PM when the humidity increases. You can always compost brush or buy a trash can to store trash until it gets wetter out. And keep a hose handy and an eye on whatever you are burning.

At least it was warm enough to leave the windows open all night which made for good sleeping. ๐Ÿ”ฒ 68 degrees in the bedroom when I fell asleep, 61 degrees by morning when I got out of bed. It got up to 74 degrees in my bedroom by afternoon yesterday. Sure beats struggling to keep the heat in the mid 50s in the winter. โ„ I really enjoy the fresh air in them morning. ๐Ÿƒ It’s even better when it’s summer and I’m camping up in the wilderness.

The sun will set at 7:29 pm with dusk around 7:58 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 63 degrees. The dew point will be 48 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 5 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 45 degrees at 5am. 10 degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around May 8th. West wind 5 to 9 mph. In 2018, we had mostly clear in the evening, which became mostly sunny by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 23 degrees. The record low of 16 occurred back in 1977.

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers, mainly after noon. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 59 degrees at 2pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around April 16th. Light and variable wind becoming west 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 44 degrees. The record high of 77 was set in 1991. 13.3 inches of snow fell back in 2000.โ„

Yesterday was kind of a gray day, kind of hazy with thicker clouds in the afternoon. I wouldn’t say it was a bad day, although I hate hazy spring days with the light so defuse it kind of gives me a headache and makes it a bit hard to see as everything is kind of gray. โ˜ I didn’t feel all that great either. Not sick but not well either.

Needless to say, I didnโ€™t go to the Catskills to hike although I did go for a short walk on the rail trail up to Font Grove before turning around and heading home because I was tired of nearly tripping over the dog walkers ๐Ÿถ and getting run over by the cyclist ๐Ÿšด. I don’t go for a walk or out in nature be surrounded by a million people. If I wanted to be in crowds I’d just go downtown like I do for work.

My parents cooked steak and the fixings on the grill for Sunday dinner. ๐Ÿ– It was a nice dinner and they made brownies for desert. Made it home before dark tonight. ๐ŸŒ… That’s good because last night was so dark driving home and there was a shit ton of deer along the road looking to hand out $250 collision deductibles. Fortunately I made it home safely, then hung my clothes in the closet in preparation for the work week.

Did some cleaning on the bathroom ๐Ÿšฝ after buying a new plastic brush and some toilet cleaner. I’ve tried laundry soap but I have better luck with the toilet cleaner. Also cleaned out the shower ๐Ÿšฟ, it was kind of a mess with soap scum. The soap dissolving acid works well. I could probably do a lot more scrubbing throughout my apartment but cleaning really ain’t my fortay. I kind of like my rundown apartment, that’s why I’ve lived here nearly 12 years.

I went for my evening walk and it was warm enough to sit out back for an hour and listen to the spring peepers. ๐Ÿธ Not really loud tonight but they’re singing ๐ŸŽถ their song. No stars โœจ as it was cloudy with the rain pushing in. I thought about buying a case of beer ๐Ÿป for drinking out back but I really don’t like the expense or health consequences of drinking alcohol anymore. Alcohol not only gets you intoxicated and leaves you with a hang over, it’s a carcinogen. ๐Ÿšฌ Plus you get drinking and the next thing you want is a drag on a cigarette and that’s even worse.

As previously noted, next Monday is Tax Day ๐Ÿ’ฐ when the sun will be setting at 7:37 pm with dusk at 8:06 pm. On that day in 2018, we had freezing rain showers, cold, mostly cloudy and temperatures between 36 and 28 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 58 degrees. We hit a record high of 86 back in 2003.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 60. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 55. Typical average high for the weekend is 57 degrees.

This next weekend the plan is to take the bottles and cans to the transfer station, โ™ป after cleaning out the refrigerator and searching the bathroom for recyclable cans and bottles. Then I’ll repack my truck for camping โ›บ. I also want to get that new brake switch installed โญ• and hopefully have the cruise control working again on the truck. I don’t know if I will go camping during the following Easter weekend ๐Ÿฐ as the weather currently doesn’t look that great and there is a lot of snow up north but I could change my mind. ๐Ÿ˜€

I am glad that it appears that I can fix the cruise control and problems with getting the truck out of park ๐Ÿ…ฟ by replacing the sub $20 brake switch next weekend. Probability on Saturday if I can get up to GM to buy another switch this week. I like things that are simple and easy to fix.๐Ÿ”ง I hate not having cruise control, as I’m so used to driving with it on all the time as it keeps my truck going at a lawful speed. ๐Ÿš™I’m willing to pay to get it fixed, if replacing the switch doesn’t fix it because having it working is cheaper than a ticket ๐ŸŽซ. The truck is easy to speed in with the highway gearing that makes it want to go faster than is lawful.

I saw yet another cop ๐Ÿ‘ฎ on 32 coming home from my parents tonight. They must be working overtime to pay for the governor’s million dollar pay raise. Must be nice to have a job that you are virtually guaranteed to get million dollars ๐Ÿ’ต after four years. I’d take if offered, invest virtually all of it, buy land out in the country after my first four years as governor and basically retire. I save whatever I can these days and I work hard at my job but I’m not making any million dollars every four years. ๐Ÿ’ฐ

Earth Day is a week from Monday ๐ŸŒŽ so I’ll working that day but maybe the previous day I’ll be up in the wilderness. At least I’ll be riding public transportation to get to work ๐ŸšŒand I always try to avoid waste wherever possible in my own life as money spent on things today is stolen from my future. It annoys me when people talk about how green they are, but consume 1,000 kilowatt hours of electricity each month for their 5,000 square foot house, and always have a full trash can each week, even though they wash out their cans and eat organic food, half of which ends up in their composter because it rots before they eat it.

Tonight is the public hearing the county legislature is holding on taxing paper bags. ๐Ÿ“„Liberals think it’s the best thing since sliced bread ๐Ÿž as they have never seen a tax that they don’t like, even though the only benefit of the tax is it means that the county gets a few cents to buy filmsy woven plastic bags with County Executive Dan McCoy’s name to remind people of the importance of the re-election of incumbents.๐Ÿ“ฎ I wrote my legislature, I am not going to waste my time at a public hearing that’s going to be packed with the greenies who already know the legislature will enact this law.

Certainly PAUSE loves the tax, because apparently banning paper bags gives them a bigger boner ๐Ÿ†than saving the Pine Bush from yet another development. I’m just cranky that my county legislator who I didn’t vote for didn’t reply back to my email on this topic. I guess it doesn’t matter that much, I’m planning on using plastic milk crates for bringing home my groceries when the bags are finally banned.๐Ÿ“ฆI think the crates are a much easier way to keep organized and clean for bringing home groceries.

Definitely all and all a good weekend. ๐Ÿ‘I can look in despair at the direction of our country both at the local and federal level, but ultimately each day I’m saving more money ๐Ÿ’ต and taking care of my future even as our world ๐ŸŒ falls apart. I can’t change the world but I can better myself and my future. Plus I’m looking forward to camping โ›บ and traveling in a few weeks. Snow won’t last that much longer up north.

In four weeks on May 6 the sun will be setting at 8:01 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 42 seconds later then today. In 2018 on that day, we had rain showers, partly sunny and temperatures between 65 and 54 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 67 and 44 degrees. The record high of 89 degrees was set back in 1930.

Looking ahead, Tax Day ๐Ÿ’ฐ is in 1 weeks, Earth Day ๐ŸŒŽ is in 2 weeks, Memorial Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 7 weeks, Latest Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 11 weeks, July ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿฟ is in 12 weeks, Cow Appreciation Day ๐Ÿ‚ is in 14 weeks, Last Sunset After 8 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 18 weeks, Labor Day ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ is in 21 weeks and Columbus Day ๐Ÿ›ฅ๏ธ is in 26 weeks.
