October 9, 2016 Night

Good evening! Partly cloudy and 48 degrees in North Syracuse. There is a north-northwest breeze at 9 mph. A cool evening, but not that cold compared to what it should be this time of year though. Went for a nice walk along Main Street this evening, walking about three miles, but it sure gets dark early. If your burning calories outside, it doesn’t feel that cool, especially as the wind has dropped down a bit.

Β It was nice at Chimney Bluffs today, but I wish I planned to spend more time there.Β I didn’t get up real early, because it was pretty darn cloudy at the place I’m staying at here in North Syracuse.Β But at Β least I got up there and it was nice. With a natural place like Chimney Bluffs, which has lasted for thousands of year, you never know if a hurricane or tornado hits or just a collapse leading to the destruction of this natural beauty. Remember what happened to Man of the Mountain in New Hampshire.

Watching the Presidential Debate Now on Youtube/PBS. And drinking beer.Β It’s interesting to hear, especially with all the controversy over Trump’s brutish behavior lately. I was on the fence for a while, but I’m learning to accept Hillary as the better candidate. Trump is just awful and I don’t agree with a lot of things that the Republican Party is advocating. Hearing that Hillary is open to free trade and open borders, certainly helped to warm me up to her. I think Hillary is a lot more professional then Trump, and she would make a good first women president.

Now, I doubt things will get much better.Β I am pretty sure that the GOP will continue to control the house, thanks to gerrymandering the districts. The US Senate is a bit more up, if Trump’s implosion maybe it will flip. That said, it’s important to have a check on the power of government to protect access to our public lands and our second amendment rights, and I think we do got to make sure we implement policies that benefit all Americans and not just a handful.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming clear, with a low of 38 degrees at 6am. Three degrees below normal. North wind 7 to 9 mph. The record low of 25 occurred back in 1980. Waxing Gibbous Moon tonight with 58% illuminated. The moon will set around 3:23 am. The Full β€œHunter” Moon is next Saturday night.

Columbus Day will be sunny, with a high of 55 degrees at 3pm. Seven degrees below normal. Maximum dew point of 34 at 6am. North wind 6 to 11 mph. The record high of 89 was set in 1939. The sun will rise at 7:12 am with the first light at 6:44 am, which is 1 minutes and 10 seconds later then yesterday.

Tomorrow, I’m hoping to climb Jones Hill and get some morning pictures tomorrow if I get an early enough start. On the hills south of Syracuse, the colors should be pretty close to peak. The weather forecast for tomorrow looks to be cool but nice for hiking and enjoying the wilderness. Wish I was camping though, but right now with work and everything else, I just don’t have the time. Come November, I will have much more time to camp, but the leaves will be gone. But by then most of the hunting and trapping seasons will be open. The propane heater makes November camping a lot more fun.

Looking ahead, Harvest Moon is in 1 weeks, First Day of Sunset Before 6 PM in Albany is in 2 weeks, National Candy Corn Day Day is in 3 weeks, Daylight Savings Time Ends and Last Day with 10 Hours of Daylight is in 4 weeks, First Day on Average with Low of Freezing is in 5 weeks and Christmas is in 11 weeks.
