November 15, 2017 8 AM Update

Today certainly has become a nice sunny November day. Warm and sunny. 36 degrees with another ten to go by midday. The express bus is running right at time without any jack booted thugs to slow it down. I believe that we should rein in any government program that makes me late for work, even if the program is funding those who drive their 2018 model year Cadillacs to the local welfare office.

The sun will set at 4:32 pm with dusk around 5:02 pm, which is 53 seconds earlier than yesterday. At sunset, look for mostly clear conditions and 45 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 43 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 8 seconds over yesterday.

Unfortunately the nice weather ain’t expected to last. Tonight will have a chance of rain, mainly after 1am. Increasing clouds, with a low of 37 degrees at 12am. Five degrees above normal. South wind 9 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2016, we had light rain and mist in the evening, remaining overcast into the early morning. It got down to 39 degrees. The record low of 7 occurred back in 1972. Single digits!

Definitely enjoying this beautiful weather and wishing that I wasn’t on my way to work. But so be it. Pretty decent temperature inversion downtown, making the smoke from the power plants look like a mushroom cloud.

Tonight is the Save the Pine Bush Dinner which is going to be a presentation on Ground Source Heat Pumps. Certainly using a large heat sink can making heating and cooling more efficient. I look forward to learning more and eating lasagna. Unfortunately last month I missed the dinner because I was in West Virginia. That said, I love the Mountain State and it was pretty neat seeing the Mount Storm Power Plant up close. I keep finding West Virginia videos I saved that I have yet to post online.

Looking ahead, there are 8 weeks until Coldest Day of Year (Avg. 14-30 degrees) when the sun will be setting at 4:42 pm with dusk at 5:13 pm. On that day in 2017, we had rain, snow, cloudy skies and temperatures between 38 and 17 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 30 degrees. We hit a record high of 55 back in 2016.
