May 26, 2016 Evening
84 degrees under overcast skies on this pack up and get ready to leave town evening. The dew point has dropped a bit since this morning and with the clouds feels relatively cool.
Today the Adirondack Northway turns 55 years old. For the first time in 1961, you could get from Albany to north of Lake George in less than one hour. It forever brought the Adirondacks closer to a major population center in the region. The Adirondack Northway was also complete today in 1961 from Montreal to south of Keeseville, at which point you had take US 9 until the Northway was completed shortly before the opening of Expo 67.
A hazy, hot and humid summer week is ahead of us. I know some models are down on the weekend but I’m not seeing a washout. Maybe some downpours with the thunderstorms that will come with the territory of such heat and humidity, but it won’t be anything like the soaker of 2013. And a lot warmer than 2015 which was so frigid at North Lake. Maybe not quite as nice as most of 2014. Independence Day generally is better weather then Memorial Day but beggars can’t be choosers. It’s still the unofficial kick off to summer, black flies and all.
No matter how you cut it, summer is rapidly getting underway. While it can be somewhat miserable, haze, heat and humidity all are part of the season and sure make those swimming holes feel nice.
