May 25, 2021 Morning
Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Happy Pay Day for Me! 💰 Work hard, make money. 👨💼 Don’t worry, the various investment and retirement accounts will make it disappear from my checking account by Friday and I’ll be poor again but one day closer to owning that off-grid property. 💸 🏡 Next Tuesday is 9 PM Dusk 🌆 . Yes, June, those five days of the year when there is a lot of sun in the evening. Partly cloudy and 53 degrees in Delmar, NY. ⛅ There is a south breeze at 9 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 46 degrees.
Nice morning for the walk 🚶🏻. One advantage of working from home is that I have time for a walk before work. Got to enjoy it while I still can. Haters are going to be haters but I kind of like remote work 💻. But alas things are changing, I saw folks in the store without masks for the first time in a year. 😷 That previously well manured Timothy grass at dairy down the road looks like it won’t be long before it’s good eating for cattle 🐮 and certainly the grassland birds 🐦 like it.
While my hands have gotten less stinky after repeatably washing them, 👏 they still smell a bit like burnt, smoldering plastic garbage after the recovery effort at Mr. Wolcott’s house. 🔥 I can only imagine how much Dan VanRiper’s vacant apartment where they are storing, drying and sorting all the historic documents that remain 📜 stinks. My nose is a bit stuffed up and congested 👃, I think either from handling those documents, breathing in the heavy hydrocarbons in ash and asbestos, and most likely the mold. 👹 All those wonderful dioxins and furans, along with a mix of toulene and styrene.
Or more likely because I decided to go through my own filing cabinet and purge anything that wasn’t absolutely essential and get all documents in one place, so I could get it quickly in an emergency, 🗑 not that really have any real important documents except the title for my truck, birth certificate, and old W-2s which all could be replaced for something like $50. 📄 But at least they should be easier to find now. I am also going to pick up a few 64 or 128 GB USB thumb drives to make sure I have off-site back ups of miles, just to be safe. 💾 Flash memory is so cheap today. And I tell myself, when I own my own land, I will make sure that anything I’m not using right away is either in burn barrel, the scrap metal pile behind the barn that’s ready to be hauled off, the landfill or buried in a deep hole in the dead pit in the back forty. ♻️
Today will be partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 78 degrees at 4pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 9th. Maximum dew point of 57 at 4pm. South wind 9 to 14 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 80 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1981.
This morning I plan to go for my morning walk 🚶♀️ after showering, then sit down and work from home. Later on, I might walk down to the library to work, depending on how much data I need for work. I have the 10 gb plan now, so I have to be careful how much hot spot data I used although working in the office a few days a week, which should mean I’m saving quite a bit of data. 📶 I also am very low on groceries, 👜 so I am hoping if I have downtime during my lunch break I can get groceries, as I expect to be working late today but at least from home. 🏢 Tomorrow and Thursday I will be in the downtown office. 💳 I couldn’t get my bus card to automatically refill, so I added $50 manually and that should get me well through the summer with the amount of times I’m working downtown these days. I am hoping it will be mostly a wash now on my budget with savings from my reduced data plan.
Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 68.4° from the due south horizon (-2.4° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 7:40 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (293°). 📸 The sunset is in the west-northwest (300°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:21 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 20 seconds with dusk around 8:54 pm, which is 55 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 At dusk you’ll see the Full 🌝 Moon in the southeast (129°) at an altitude of 11° from the horizon, 226,335 miles away. 🚀 The best time to look at the stars is after 9:37 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies 🌃 and temperatures around 72 degrees. The dew point will be 58 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 11 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 56 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 38 seconds over yesterday.
My new boots arrived yesterday 👢 but I don’t think I will break them in until my current ones have finally fallen apart. Although I might wear them on casual Thursday in the office because I don’t want to go to the office wreaking of burnt plastic. I ordered them though because I we my existing boots are quite worn and I know they won’t last forever.
Still no news 📰 on when the express bus 🚍 will will return but the stop remains ready to be activated. 🚏 I just don’t think there is the demand yet. That said the reduced local schedule seems to work okay for me, as traffic is still light downtown and buses move quickly.
Tonight will have a slight chance of showers after 10pm. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 62 degrees at 4am. 11 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 60 at 6am. South wind 7 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies. It became somewhat humid as the night progressed. It got down to 64 degrees. The record low of 38 occurred back in 1972.
The most recent Memorial Day Weekend forecast has improved significantly, but it will be chilly. ☀️ Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 63. Maximum dew point of 38 at 7am. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 68. Maximum dew point of 42 at 8pm. Black flies do not approve, but I do. Going to need the heater and the long sleeves in Adirondacks if that where I end up. Typical average high for the weekend is 75 degrees.
Maybe I will be heading out of town this weekend. 🏕 It didn’t seem likely before, but with the rapidly improving weather, it seems to make a lot of sense to do something fun this weekend. I was leaning towards the Green Mountains but I have a feeling that I be working at least part of the weekend, so having reception is important. Speculator-area again? Maybe. 😕 I am so tired of Speculator, spent way too much of the past year in that little village by Lake Pleasant.
As previously noted, next Tuesday is 9 PM Dusk 🌆 when the sun will be setting at 8:26 pm with dusk at 9:00 pm. On that day in 2020, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 68 and 41 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 76 degrees. We hit a record high of 94 back in 1918.
