May 20, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Just waiting for the bus 🚍 to take me downtown on this direct drive of the week. Five weeks to Strawberry Moon πŸŒ• . Partly sunny and 62 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a south-southeast breeze at 5 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 49 degrees.

So alas the routine returns, 🚏catching the bus downtown, saying hi to the bus driver πŸ‘‹πŸ» and off we go. Yesterday was an extremely ordinary day working downtown, almost like before the pandemic but with the muzzle on the bus. 😷 Even packed on the elevator at the end of the day, and yesterday the morning I got on the elevator with a bunch of likely anti-vax Republican staffers. It seems like the evidence is pretty good that the vaccine works well so I’m not concerned. πŸ—£οΈ

Today will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 84 degrees at 4pm. 11 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 51 at 11am. South wind 5 to 7 mph. Going to be a warm one but not with much humidity. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 75 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1962.

Don’t get me wrong, but I’d rather be working aside Lake Pleasant on Spectulator πŸ‘¨πŸ»β€πŸ’Ό but alas I’m working in the old office 🏒 downtown. But one thing I’ve realized is how slow 🐒 the VPN and the internet more generally is over the Hotspot and library Wi-Fi especially in Spectulator compared to the real office. High speed internet in the Adirondacks is anything but high speed. That said it’s pretty neat how I can retrieve a file off the server five miles away from the nearest electric wire. Plus it’s great to see all my colleagues. πŸ‘₯ Something is lost over the Zoom.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 67.4Β° from the due south horizon (-3.4Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 7:35 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (292Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west-northwest (299Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:17 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 18 seconds with dusk around 8:48 pm, which is one minute later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous πŸŒ” Moon in the south-southwest (192Β°) at an altitude of 56Β° from the horizon, 232,873 miles away. πŸš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:31 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies πŸŒ„ and temperatures around 75 degrees. The dew point will be 51 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 48 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 53 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌀, with a low of 55 degrees at 6am. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 6th. Maximum dew point of 51 at 6pm. South wind 5 to 7 mph. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 46 degrees. The record low of 32 occurred back in 1949.

Sunday looks to be the best of the weekend. πŸ˜• Saturday, a chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 84. West wind 3 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Maximum dew point of 61 at 11am. Sunday, a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 84. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Maximum dew point of 63 at 8am. Typical average high for the weekend is 73 degrees.

I think it will be a stay at home weekend 🎣 but it might be a good weekend for fishing down at the river and maybe kayaking πŸ›Ά at Partridge Run, keeping an eye πŸ‘β€πŸ—¨ out for thunderstorms β›ˆ. Not sure if I have any plans yet for Memorial Day Weekend. β›Ί That could be myself lying to me. πŸ€₯

Looking ahead, there are 5 weeks until Latest Sunset πŸŒ† when the sun will be setting at 8:37 pm with dusk at 9:12 pm. On that day in 2020, we had humid, partly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 85 and 65 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 82 degrees. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1943.
