May 19, 2019 11 PM Update
Good evening! Mostly cloudy with some lightening to the south π© and 71 degrees in Dormansville, NY. β I guess folks like to call it heat lightening but it’s really just a distant thunderstorm to the south. There is a south breeze at 9 mph. π. The wind had really dropped down after dark. The dew point is 62 degrees. Humid but not that bad. The skies will clear tomorrow around 7 am. A little after sunrise.
I was surprised that by afternoon it got fairly nice. β Breezy though for sure, my parents didn’t want to eat outside. We had a quick thunderstorm β‘ roll through and I had to run out and close the windows on the truck.
On the VMS display in my bedroom, I added a DHT 11 humidity sensor to monitor the humidity and dew point in my bedroom. πΉIt will be interesting to see how humid it gets in my bedroom on a sticky warm evening. I also added a transistor to reset the display ever so often to avoid display glitches which seem to be a bigger problem in the warm weather. After each message the display goes into sleep mode and a transistor fully cuts power to clear out any invalid data. So far its workng well. Still plan to add an outside temperature probe but I have to study the internet to figure out how to use it and figure the best way to get the wiring out of the window.
Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy π§, with a low of 66 degrees at 5am. 18 degrees above normal. That’s actually warmer than many summer nights in July. Maximum dew point of 63 at 5am. South wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It became humid as the night progressed. It got down to 56 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 2002.
Tonight will have a Waning Gibbous Moon π with 94% illuminated. The moon will set at 6:55 am. The Last Quarter Moon is on Saturday night with partly cloudy skies. The Strawberry Moon π is in 4 weeks. The sun will rise at 5:29 am with the first light at 4:56 am, which is 53 seconds earlier than yesterday. π Tonight will have 9 hours and 13 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 52 seconds over last night.
Tomorrow will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce small hail, gusty winds, and heavy rain. Partly sunny π§, with a high of 82 degrees at 2pm. 11 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around July 2nd. Maximum dew point of 63 at 6am. Warm but not super muggy. Southwest wind 7 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 75 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1962.
Right now, a split verdict on the Memorial Day Weekend. π Saturday, a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 77. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Maximum dew point of 59 at 2pm. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 74. Maximum dew point of 55 at 6am. Typical average high for the weekend is 72 degrees. All and all it seems like a nice weekend but Saturday might not be the sunest and the weather will not be super warm. I’m still chewing over where to go – if I camped βΊ in a local state forests it might not be as buggy as up north and I wouldn’t have to deal with expressway traffic.
In four weeks on June 16 the sun will be setting at 8:35 pm,π which is 20 minutes and 13 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 84 and 50 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 78 and 57 degrees. The record high of 96 degrees was set back in 1967.
Looking ahead, Fathers Day π¨ is in 4 weeks, Last Day of Session π is a month away, National Nude Day π± is in 8 weeks, Sunset Before 7:30 PM π is in 15 weeks, Autumn π is in 18 weeks and Average High is 60 π is in 21 weeks.
