March 7, 2016 Morning
Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Currently cloudy and 36 degrees with a 13 mph south wind. The wind chill value is currently 27. Kind of a gray start to the week but not that cold.
Today will have a slight chance of rain and snow showers before 9am, then a slight chance of rain showers between 9am and 3pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 54. South wind 7 to 13 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20%. That’s about 13 degrees above normal. The record high of 62 degrees was set back in 1974. Only nine degrees short of the record today.
Tonight the sun will set at 5:53 pm with darkness around 6:21 pm, which is 1 minutes and 12 seconds later than yesterday. Today will have 11 hours and 35 minutes of daylight, an increase of 2 minutes and 53 seconds over yesterday. Every day we get closer to March 17 when darkness equals light.
Tonight will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 38. West wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm in the evening. That’s about 15 degrees above normal. The record low of -2 degrees was set back in 1989. The record lows get less cold every day.
There are 3 months, 12 days until Fathers Day when the sun will be setting at 8:36 pm (Daylight Savings Time). The average high temperature for Fathers Day is 79 degrees, with a record high of 94 in 1995.
Today in 1965 was Bloody Sunday when a group of 600Β civil rightsΒ marchers is brutally attacked by state and local police with police dogs inΒ Selma, Alabama. After Bloody Sunday there would be a national discussion about the rights of protestors and police tactics.
I have a bit of a sore throat as often happens on weekends when I spend most of the weekend at home, probably from the mold combined with all the time I spent outdoors in the cold on Saturday. But I figure I should be able to leave the windows open full-time in a few more weeks as it gets progressively warmer in the next few weeks. I usually turn off the heat for good around March 15th as by then it’s warm enough to keep the pipes from freezing.
I still like where I live in Delmar, even if the building may be a bit run down. It’s so convenient being able to walk to local parks and catch the bus to work. I want to get out of New York eventually but it’s convenient in the mean time as I work downtown and cheap. Plus in the summer months, I really don’t spend that much time home at all — I’m either at work, down at the park, asleep, or at camp somewheres in the wilderness.
