March 31, 2020 Night
Good evening! Partly clear and 43 degrees in Delmar, NY. π For a while it cleared out this evening after sunset and it was really nice. There is a north-northeast breeze at 6 mph. π. Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 2 am. βοΈ
I sat out back for a while with a book π and it was nice β¨ until it started to get cold. For a while the moon was out and the stars were shining. π Earlier on I walked down to the Elm Avenue Park β² to get some podcasts to listen π§ to as I haven’t been on the internet since Sunday except for my phone π± and I guess you could say the Zoom session for work but that was on my work computer which is just for work.
Today I spent a lot of time playing with an experimental theme for the blog. π I am trying to make the pictures more prominent, tell my story and experiences better. I figure while I’m home I should see how to better my blog before camping season starts. I am not sure if I will use the new design or only parts of it but I like experimenting with code.
Another pretty quiet day at work, it was fun setting up the lights and figuring out how to do Zoom π₯ and make it look good on my end. I’ve done other training classes on Zoom but those have been mass trainings with the camera off. I just know when things finally start getting back to normal at work, things will be so busy to make up for lost time. At least by then hopefully the weather is nice enough that I can work outside most days. π³I don’t mind the idea of social distancing under a tree on a sixty five degree with a laptop, as long as I’m not stuck inside my moldy apartment.
Tonight will be mostly cloudy π₯, with a low of 30 degrees at 6am. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 28th. Northeast wind around 6 mph becoming calm after midnight. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 26 degrees. The record low of 9 occurred back in 1923.
Tonight will have a First Quarter π Moon with 47% illuminated. At 8 PM, the moon was in the southwest (222Β°) at an altitude of 67Β° from the horizon, some 237,670 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. π At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by September 28th. Buckle up for safety! πΊ The Pink πΈ Moon is on Tuesday, April 7. The darkest hour is at 1:00 am, followed by dawn at 6:11 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:39 am in the east (83Β°) and last for 2 minutes and 55 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 45 seconds earlier than yesterday. π The golden hour ends at 7:17 am with sun in the east (90Β°). Tonight will have 11 hours and 15 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 53 seconds over last night.
Tomorrow will be mostly sunny π, with a high of 55 degrees at 4pm. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 7th. Light north wind increasing to 6 to 11 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 42 degrees. The record high of 77 was set in 1986. 5 inches of snow fell back in 1924.β
I decided against the Adirondacks for this weekend but maybe the long weekend next. βΊ Not a lot of snow left along the East Branch but it looks like at this point it will be melting away. I assume I’ll have Good Friday off next week. π°As Easter dinner with the family seems unlikely at this point, I won’t have to rush back next Sunday and there will be virtually no traffic. But who knows what the weather will be like by next week. I could use some social distancing next to a fire π₯ with some cold ones in the Adirondacks. If I do go up north, I’m not going to hike any mountains but I might hike back to a remote lake or waterfall when I’m up there where I’m not likely to run into many people.
My thought about you working from the Green Mountain National Forest come nicer weather in May βΊ is probably not going to come to fruition with the state requiring out of state visitors to quarantine. It was a crazy idea, truth be told but with my phone π± and laptop π» and solar on my truck I probably could have made it work. After all you can stay in the Green Mountain National Forest for 14 days roadside camping without a permit. Having ice to keep the milk cold would have been a pain but I know the areas up there where I have decent phone service. I’d probably remove my front New York plate once I set up camp to be safe (Vermont has become a one plate state).
I am a little hesitant to get my truck worked on right away π§because I know the alignment issue isn’t essential but it ought to be addressed. I was going to wait until I got new tires but I want to try to get another year out of the existing tires to buy more time to decide what I want to do with Big Red – go carless for a few years? Not sure. The thing is I know it’s not an essential repair and every social contact is one more chance of picking up Coronavirus. πΎ While I’m relatively young and healthy, and I still have the good state health plan, I don’t want to be on a respirator at the hospital during the middle of a pandemic. π₯Let’s be honest, cars are full of greasy and dirt and mechanics are driving different peoples cars all day and aren’t necessarily washing hands between cars. π
In four weeks on April 28 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (291Β°) at 7:52 pm,π which is 31 minutes and 52 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 51 and 40 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 64 and 42 degrees. The record high of 92 degrees was set back in 1990.
Looking ahead, 7:30 PM Sunset π is in 1 weeks, Cinco de Mayo π€ is in 5 weeks, Primary Day π³οΈ is in 12 weeks, Election Day 2020 π³οΈ is in 31 weeks and Election Day 2020 π³οΈ is in 31 weeks.
πΊπΈπ¦ Only 51 days remain until the start of Memorial Day Weekend!π¦ πΊπΈ
