March 19, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy First Day of Calendar Spring. 🌸 By of course maybe one hour, the first full day is Friday. Rain showers and 37 degrees in Delmar, NY. β˜” Calm wind. It could be snow. But it also could be nicer. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Saturday around 7 am. β˜ƒοΈ

Today will rain likely, mainly before 9am. Cloudy 🌧, with a high of 49 degrees at 5pm. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 26th. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. I’ll take it but more sun β˜€ would be good for my mobile office. 🏒 A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 45 degrees. The record high of 78 was set in 2012. 9.6 inches of snow fell back in 1971.❄

Solar noon 🌞 is at 1:04 pm with sun having an altitude of 47.1Β° from the due south horizon (-23.8Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 5.6 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 6:30 pm with the sun in the west (264Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west (271Β°) starting at 7:04 pm and lasts for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:34 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:08 pm. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies ☁ and temperatures around 47 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 12 hours and 7 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 4am. Cloudy 🌧, with a low of 43 degrees at 12am. 16 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 1st. Calm wind becoming southeast around 6 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 27 degrees. The record low of 2 occurred back in 1967.

Cool but sunny this weekend. 😎 Saturday, sunny, with a high near 43. Northwest wind 8 to 11 mph. Sunday, sunny, with a high near 41. Typical average high for the weekend is 46 degrees. I plan to stay in town this weekend just because it’s been a crazy 😜 week and I want to be ready for next week – and in a few weeks I’m planning on going on a road trip. That said, I’ll get the bottles and cans to the recycling center, β™» finish cleaning up my camping gear in my truck, and getting ready for camping season when the time comes. It’s not going to be that far away, as far as I can tell, although who knows we might still get another snow storm.Β  🧹 No guarantees for an early spring at this point, although it does look promising — if the darn wind dies down a bit.πŸƒ

Looking ahead, there are 7 weeks until Flower Moon πŸŒ• when the sun will be setting at 8:02 pm with dusk at 8:34 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 66 and 49 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 67 degrees. We hit a record high of 92 back in 1930.
