January 28, 2016 Evening

Good evening. Currently overcast and 40 degrees in Albany. The breeze makes it feel a bit cooler than 40. But still mild conditions prevail. Tonight will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 27. South wind 5 to 9 mph becoming light after midnight.

Tonight we will have a Waining Gibbous Moon with 67% illuminated. It will rise in the east at 9:45 pm. Almost bedtime when the moon rises. Might see it rise on the evening walk. Tomorrow unless you stay up late or get up early, forget about seeing the moon.

Friday will have a chance of snow showers, mainly between 8am and 5pm. Cloudy, with a high near 37. Light and variable wind becoming west 11 to 16 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Flip a coin. Certainly will feel pretty chilly. I’m not certain the weekend will be particularly nice either.

The weather this winter has been fairly mild with some exceptions. I am certainly not complaining. February might be even more mild, if the long range models are to be believed. It seems like winters lately just aren’t as harsh as they once were. Last year we had a pretty frigid stretch in late February and March, so sometimes it still gets pretty darn cold. The weather might also seem more mild these days because I take the bus to work and live in the city were it doesn’t get as cold as in the mountains.

I was thinking about going up to the Adirondacks this weekend but now the forecast doesn’t look so great, so I’ll probably stay in town. We will see. I’d like a night in the wilderness and some hiking but not if it’s going to be cloudy with lake effect snow. So be it.
