January 10, 2017 9 AM Update
“Knock down the old gray wall, be a part of it all. Nothing to say, nothing to see, nothing to do.” Or something like that goes Badfinger’s No Matter.Β
Kind of a gray January day with the sun peaking out in the south, kind of like a November day. Mercury is at 21 degrees on our way up to 37 degrees later. Driving rain this evening, I said the hell with an umbrella after work for the evening commute, I’m just going to get wet. Mid day we might get some slushy snow or freezing rain but it is just going to heavy rain with gusty winds for our evening commute. I guess I’ll hide in the building and run to the bus shelter when the time comes.
The sun will set at 4:42 pm with dusk around 5:13 pm, which is 1 minutes and 5 seconds later than yesterday. Today will have 9 hours and 18 minutes of daylight, an increase of 1 minute and 23 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will rain, snow, and sleet, becoming all rain after 1am. Low of 34 degrees at 6pm. Warming up through the night.Β 20 degrees above normal. Breezy, with a south wind 20 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 49 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2016, it got down to 17 degrees with periods of snow. The record low of -25 occurred back in 1968.
As previously noted, there are 5 weeks until Valentines Day when the sun will be setting at 5:27 pm with dusk at 5:55 pm. On that day in 2016, we had sunny skies and temperatures between 8 and -13 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 34 degrees. We hit a record high of 63 back in 1946.
I can’t believe how much gray hair is showing up in the mirror, when I go to brush my hair in the morning. Its especially bad in the office bathroom where they have lots of bright white florescent lights. I guess I don’t care but I didn’t really expect big blotches of gray to start appearing right before my 34th birthday. I figure it’s part of becoming experienced. I do feel like these days I finally understand my job and do a good job at it. Like most things in life, the more you practice and the more you do something the better you are at. And the more gray hair you get.
