February 14, 2019 Morning
Good morning! Happy Valentines Day โค๏ธ! Five weeks to Spring ๐ท. I think I’m loving that fact more Valentines Day. Snow flurries and 29 degrees in Delmar. โ Breezy,16 mph breeze from the west ๐ฌ . The current wind chill is 17. I don’t think it’s that bad right now in Delmar, I didn’t notice that much of chill walking down to the express bus but shrug, I was walking quickly again. ๐ One of my contacts was bothering me so despite having an early start I stated becoming a bit late. ๐There are 5 inches of snow on the ground. โ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at around 11 am. ๐ก๏ธ Hopefully that will help with the snow on Big Red. I thought about cleaning off the solar panel but that didn’t happen yet.
Today will have isolated snow showers before 9am. Partly sunny ๐, with a high of 38 degrees at 2pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 26th. I like mild weather. West wind 13 to 18 mph decreasing to 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had cloudy. The high last year was 45 degrees. The record high of 63 was set in 1946. 23.5 inches of snow fell back in 1914.โย I can’t imagine how much Albany would struggle with that much snow today. The city isn’t that prepared for very heavy snows.
The sun will set at 5:26 pm with dusk around 5:55 pm, which is one minute and 18 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ and temperatures around 37 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 10 hours and 33 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 41 seconds over yesterday. I noticed on my sign in my bedroom that come another month, we will be up to over 11 hours and 45 minutes of daylight — a big jump, as we inch closer to the first day of spring.
Tonight will have a chance of snow showers after 2am, mixing with rain after 4am. Mostly cloudy ๐ง, with a low of 27 degrees at 12am. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 19th. Won’t need to crank the heat up tonight — which is good, because I had my first 3-digit utility bill last month, at $104. I don’t know why my bills have increased so much lately. It’s not like the amount of energy I’ve used has gone up. A bit of a breeze, with south wind 5 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2018, we had mostly clear in the evening, which became mist by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 30 degrees. The record low of -22 occurred back in 1943.
Tomorrow will have a chance of rain and snow showers before 7am, then rain showers likely. Mostly cloudy ๐ฆ, with a high of 50 degrees at 3pm. 15 degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around March 28th. South wind 13 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy. The high last year was 53 degrees. The record high of 55 was set in 2006. 9.0 inches of snow fell back in 1894.โ
Wednesday wasn’t too bad, I got out of work at five ๐made it home around the normal time, cooked up some pasta and then worked on a soldering project then went for my evening walk๐. Listened to more of the Bagman Podcast about Spiro Agnew. ๐งย Nice evening, lots of stars.
Got back, hopped on the exercise bike, watched one of the videos from My Self Reliance that I had previously downloaded from YouTube๐ฒ followed by a video by that farmer down by Whitney Point as he was exploring some tractors at another tractor dealership. Snowmobiles are tricky beasts, especially when your trying to tow heavy loads on trails not well packed. Then took a sleeping pill, retired to bed, and then the lights dimmed and I went to bed.๐ด
A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐ Okay, maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration. But standards are low in February. It’s actually going to be a bit cool but at least sunny. Saturday, isolated snow showers before 10am. Partly sunny, with a high near 34. Northwest wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 31. Typical average high for the weekend is 35 degrees. I am still undecided if I will go out on Saturday to camp overnight in the wilderness, but if I do, it won’t be a bit trip for sure.
In four weeks on March 14 the sun will be setting at 7:00 pm (Daylight Savings Time),๐ which is one hour, 34 minutes and 31 seconds later then today. In 2018 on that day, we had snow showers, partly cloudy and temperatures between 35 and 29 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 43 and 25 degrees. The record high of 75 degrees was set back in 1946.
Looking ahead, there are 5 weeks until Spring ๐ท when the sun will be setting at 7:09 pm with dusk at 7:37 pm (Daylight Savings Time). On that day in 2018, we had cloudy and temperatures between 37 and 25 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 46 degrees. We hit a record high of 78 back in 1921. I’ll take some weather where it’s at least 46 degrees. Expectations fall by this time of year for a nice day. Probably be as busy as shire the work at that point though but then April rolls around. ๐ฑย Maybe even see a bit of green by late April? Or maybe that’s May or even late May in the Adirondacks.
Looking ahead, Spring ๐ท is in 5 weeks, Average High is 50 ๐ธ is in 6 weeks, Palm Sunday ๐ด is in 2 months, Average High is 60 ๐ผ is in 9 weeks, Average High is 70 ๐ฎ is in 13 weeks, Independence Day ๐บ๐ธ is in 20 weeks and August ๐ป is in 24 weeks.
