Syracuse, N.Y. -- There’s a chance Upstate New York could see its first flakes of lake effect snow late next week, but there are plenty of caveats.

The National Weather Service’s Climate Prediction Center says a powerful storm is expected to develop east of the Rockies early next week and then move toward the Great Lakes. That storm is likely to bring high winds to the eastern U.S. and “increase the potential for lake effect snowfall in the Great Lakes,” the center said. 0:03 / 0:15

Much of Upstate in the “slight risk” category for heavy snow Thursday, Nov. 21 through Saturday, Nov. 23, according to the climate center. Slight means a 20% chance.

How fast the colors fade

How fast the colors fade… πŸ‚

With November tomorrow and the heavy rain, winds and recent cold snap, the colors of autumn and certainly summer are gone. Here are the browns and grays of November – nice on their own accord but always too quickly popping up.

This time of year the mornings are quite dark. Sunrise isn’t until after 7:20 each day, making getting up and going to work a challenge. Camping means getting up in darkness, but at least it makes it easier to get out in the field before dawn when hunting.

In two and a half weeks the time will change, giving us a little extra sun in the morning in exchange for less sun in the evening. Soon though it will be pitch black at five. Mornings already are getting increasingly cold, almost warranting turning the heat on – and certainly at camp sitting by the heater warming ones hands.

Fortunately a hot cup of coffee and breakfast on the camp stove can help overcome the darkness. Morning still breaks, it’s just later then I would like. Eventually the seasons will change, spring will happen and summer days will return.
