MUTCD – Interim Approval for Use of Clearview Font for Positive Contrast Legends on Guide Signs (IA-5)β€”REINSTATEMENT – FHWA MUTCD

The Trump Administration has reversed the Obama's administration to phase out use of Clearview font in favor of the traditional FHWA font. Now DOTs can choose between Clearview and the royalty free FHWA font. I expect with the modern sub versions of FHWA font including lower case characters most will stick with FHWA.

Many conservatives are concerned about the dangers of snow sticking to LED traffic lights leading to horrific crashes on highways. For them, General Electric has invented a special traffic light that has a heater element that turns on automatically when it drops below 30 degrees on the glass surface, consuming 33 watts in cold conditions compared to the 116 watts for the incandescent bulbs. Only uses 12 watts when the glass is above freezing.

How Useful Is Fear?

How Useful Is Fear?

"One reason we struggle with fear is that we’re simultaneously too primitive and too evolved for our own good. Our lizard brains are ruthlessly efficient: Signals speed to the threat-sensing amygdala within 74 milliseconds of the slightest hint of danger. This speed has, over eons, helped save us from extinction. But it’s also led to plenty of false alarms."

"Our higher consciousness is supposed to help us sort out these threats, but at times it seems more committed to spinning out anxious what-ifs about imperiled loved ones and unattended stoves. An entire body of risk-perception research has detailed just how bad we are at figuring out which dangers are worth worrying about. We tend to overestimate the threat of dying by lightning, flood, or murder, while underestimating the much more immediate threats posed by asthma, stroke, and diabetes, among other unsexy hazards."

New York City Aims for All-Electric Bus Fleet by 2040 | InsideClimate News

I think this goal is more realistic than people realize. I would have doubted it five years ago but technology has advanced and 18650 li-on cells are quite inexpensive. You get enough of them together and you can power a bus for a good long day. Software and controllers for managing batteries has gotten much better lately too. There are still issues with extremely hot and cold weather with battery powered buses but they are the future. Grid electricity is so much cheaper than diesel and with more and more wind coming online there is surplus of cheap electricity in the early morning hours when most people are sleeping.
