Schodack Island State Park

Schodack Island State Park sits off the eastern shore of the Hudson River just south of Albany. Approximately seven miles of Hudson River and Schodack Creek shoreline bound the 1,052-acre site.

A day-use facility, the park has been designated a State Estuary, and a portion of the park shelters a Bird Conservation Area (BCA) that is home to bald eagles, cerulean warblers and blue herons that nest in the cottonwood trees.

Eight miles of multi-use trails wind through a variety of ecological communities. In addition, the park has an improved bike trail, volleyball nets, horseshoe and a kayak/canoe launch site. Interpretive signage highlights the park’s historic and environmental significance. Picnicking (tables and grills) are available to groups by reservation (fee – call park for details).

March 31, 2018 Afternoon

Talk about a nice early spring afternoon at Schodack Island State Park. Sunny and 57 degrees in Castleton-on-Hudson. 🌞 There is a south-southwest breeze at 10 mph. 🍃.

Just out for a leisurely stroll on this beautiful blue sky afternoon after spending much of the morning sleeping trying to get my sleep cycle back to normal. 💤I still feel pretty awful, maybe congested and fuzzy with a headache but I didn’t want to miss this beautiful day and I want to sleep normal hours in my own bed tonight. 👦

I plan to go to the car wash and then to Walmart, and then to home for dinner.🍝 I noticed some salt on my truck so I want to clear that off. I also want to pick up a few supplies like night crawlers for trout season that opens tomorrow. 🎣 I might also pick some beer because it would be nice to be able to sit out back in the evening dinner. I don’t know, it still gets pretty dark and cool in the evenings and no real big warm up is expected this week. Well, it depends how I feel when I get to the store.

February 6, 2016 at Schodack Island State Park

Good afternoon. Currently mostly cloudy and 41 degrees in Castleton-on-Hudson.

Out for a walk at Schodack Island State Park. A bit chilly with the breeze. It’s weird to see the Hudson River ice free in early February, but there is not a drop of ice on it. Nearly high tide currently. Took some pictures on my Digital SLR camera that I will upload later. Bit muddy as the river muck on the trails has melted.

It looks like all the new camping facilities are ready to open with the park in May.
While camping at Schodack Island State Park ain’t for me, it is conveniently located near the city.

Not a terrible day but I have fairly bad allergies today or maybe a cold. I don’t feel sick but for a good portion of the week my nose has been real runny inside, leading to coughing and general congestion for most of the week.
