QAnon explained: the antisemitic conspiracy theory gaining traction around the world | US news | The Guardian

To Donald Trump, it’s “people who love our country". To the FBI, it’s a potential domestic terror threat. And to you or anyone else who has logged on to Facebook in recent months, it may just be a friend or family member who has started to show an alarming interest in child trafficking, the “cabal", or conspiracy theories about Bill Gates and the coronavirus.

This is QAnon, a wide-ranging and baseless internet conspiracy theory that reached the American mainstream in August. The movement has been festering on the fringes of rightwing internet communities for years, but its visibility has exploded in recent months amid the social unrest and uncertainty of the coronavirus pandemic.

George W. Bush Says He Is ‘Appalled’ By Recklessness Of ‘Some Political Leaders’ : Protests Halt Congress’ Electoral Count: Live Updates : NPR

George W. Bush, the only living former Republican president, said he was "appalled" by the actions of some political leaders since the election, and called the "mayhem" at the U.S. Capitol "a sickening and heartbreaking sight."

"This is how election results are disputed in a banana republic – not our democratic republic," the former president wrote in a statement released Wednesday evening. "I am appalled by the reckless behavior of some political leaders since the election and by the lack of respect shown today for our institutions, our traditions, and our law enforcement."

Trump Urges Georgia’s Raffensberger To Overturn Election : NPR

An angry President Trump pushed Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, a fellow Republican, to overturn the state's presidential results, and appeared to at least partly blame him for what could be lower turnout in Tuesday's runoff elections that will decide control of the U.S. Senate, according to a recording of a phone call obtained by Georgia Public Broadcasting.

"The people of Georgia know that this was a scam, and because of what you've done to the president, a lot of people aren't going out to vote [in the runoffs]," Trump said in the remarkable Saturday call. "A lot of Republicans are going to vote negative because they hate what you did to the president."

Trump’s Fraud Claims Died in Court, but the Myth of Stolen Elections Lives On – The New York Times

After bringing some 60 lawsuits, and even offering financial incentive for information about fraud, Mr. Trump and his allies have failed to prove definitively any case of illegal voting on behalf of their opponent in court — not a single case of an undocumented immigrant casting a ballot, a citizen double voting, nor any credible evidence that legions of the voting dead gave Mr. Biden a victory that wasn’t his.

The stupidity of labeling Trump’s tweets

The stupidity of labeling Trump’s tweets

  1. The President tweets something stupid about the election being stolen and people are being lied to by the “lamestream media”.
  2. Twitter suffixes the tweet with the claim that the “facts of the tweet are disputed”
  3. And links to a series of “mainstream media” articles that show why the tweet is wrong

Does this offer anything beyond what one could get by Googling the tweet? It seems like it’s just reinforcing the message of the troll, as anybody who believes what the President says about the election, is certainly not going to believe the fact checks of the media.

Federal Fisheries

Why is the president complaining about the federal fisheries program that has existed since 1871? It’s almost entirely funded by the Federal Aid in Sport Fish Restoration Act, it’s only in the budget bill because it has to be lined out
