Taconics

Muddy Area

This section happens to be in Massachussets, and under the control of Williams College / Hopkins Memorial forest, with the most delightful little bridges to cross the muddy section.

Taken on Saturday September 5, 2009 at Taconic Crest Trail.

New York State Parkways Rules and Regulations – FAQ

I was wondering if I could legally drive my truck on the Taconic Parkway. I have passenger plates, but with the cap and the rack, the height of my truck is about 8 1/2 - 9 foot.

It turns out I can still drive parkways, as the legal limit height for non-commercial vehicle is 10 feet including any thing on the roof rack, but I do have to pay attention to which parkways which I drive on as many have lower clearances then that. For example, Southern State Parkway on Long Island has bridges that 6 foot 11 inches, so I would be prohibited on that one, at least on posted sections.
