When Soul Train was first nationally syndicated in October 1971, there was nothing else like it on TV. It was the iconic Black music and dance show, a party every weekend that anyone could join from their living room. Our friends at It’s Been A Minute with Sam Sanders break down the lasting influence of Soul Train on the culture and ask why there’s never been a show like it since.

Ban Helium Balloons π
Ban Helium Balloons π
Five years ago, probably the biggest form of wind blown litter you would find in the woods was plastic shopping bags. They blow off garbage dumps, out car windows, trash cans and even back porches. They were banned in New York State and they became much less or a problem.
But now more and more I’m finding helium balloons in the woods. I get that helium balloons are fun for parties and telling sick people to get well but too many of them accidentally escape then float out in the woods. The metalized plastic might not be the biggest hazard in the world but it still will kill birds and wildlife that eat it, gets trapped in trees and will last forever, at least until the forest is burned over or somebody removes it.
To boot, helium is increasingly short supply due to decades of the government under pricing it to ensure wide availability for medical, research and scientific applications. Helium Balloons are a complete waste of this limited resource and they are killing wildlife to boot.

Good Afternoon – October 10, 2021
Good afternoon! Really vibrant colors out today hiking on Burnt Hill. π
While vibrant blue skies are nice sometimes a more cloudy day can really make the pinks, reds and oranges pop in the forest.
Mostly cloudy and 57 degrees at the Burnt-Rossman State Forest. π₯ There is a southeast breeze at 7 mph. π. The dew point is 50 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 11 am tomorrow.
Today I’m out hiking on Burnt and Rossman Hills β° just checking out the autumn foliage and wildlife. Cloudy at times but the color is good. I figured today would be a hike around camp βΊ type of day. And also do a lot of reading π and laying back in the hammock. It’s really a pretty mild and nice day for mid October. Columbus Day did fall early this year it seems but the colors are good in the high country.
