The Jessup River Wild Forest (JRWF) area consists of 47,350 acres of State Forest Preserve lands in the towns of Arietta, Indian Lake, Lake Pleasant, and Wells in Hamilton County. The unit is bounded by Route 28 to the north and Route 30 in the southeast, as well as three wilderness areas: West Canada Lakes Wilderness to the west; Siamese Ponds Wilderness to the east, and Silver Lake Wilderness to the south. The state lands in this unit border, or are in close proximity to, the communities of Indian Lake, Piseco, Speculator and Wells. Route 30 bisects the unit and serves as the main access corridor. Many people enjoy hiking to the fire towers on Pillsbury and Snowy mountains, snowmobiling between Piseco Lake and Indian Lake, canoeing on Fall Stream, or camping on Mason Lake. Hunting, fishing, and trapping are also popular activities throughout the unit but particularly in and around Perkins Clearing, the Jessup River and the Miami River.

It was a nice day, 🏊 did some swimming in the Speculator Beach and got seriously sunburnt. Yeah, I had sunscreen but I misplaced it. So my shoulders are super red. I did find it when I got back to camp. Honestly thought it wasn’t like I spent all day at the beach – all morning was working at the library Wi-Fi and the afternoon was down at the beach with my phone 📱 and the laptop. I hopped in the water occasionally but it’s not like I was swimming all day as I couldn’t miss client emails or calls. I did update the software on my work computer so the mobile internet is working but at camp I only have decent reception on my phone. 📶

I think the real reason why I like the Field Work podcast is because I like listening to the different Midwestern farmer accents. There is a distinct difference between Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois and definitely something like Alberta and Saskatchewan. I’ve been struggling to find the right balance of images to load each time you load the webpage. I like the large full-screen immersive images, but they can be problematic on slower connections. So I’m changing up the settings in the back end, and hopefully things will be better for y’all.
President Trump really doesn’t like them, says their violent agitators but I’m opposed to fascism and the rise of hate groups in our country. It’s important to raise our voices against hate and ensure all people are treated fairly. Maybe it’s not a movement I would be on the front lines of but I do support sticking up for people’s rights to be heard and treated fairly.

After packing up and organizing my gear, I ended up working from my campsite all day. ⛺ I just moved Big Red a few feet to make sure it was parked in the sun to keep the laptop and battery bank charged. Packing things up helped get things a lot more organized – and this morning had more downtime then recent. Finally hung up the flags 🎌 and hammock and electric lights tonight. They do make camping kind of more fun.
It’s night three at this campsite so I have to take camp down in the morning. 🌅 I I’m going to work down in Speculator – probably just using my phone and if necessary the cellular internet on the work laptop and in the afternoon will work down at the Speculator library until 5 pm. Strangely enough it wasn’t until this afternoon I hung up the flags 🎌 or the hammock but I’ve been so busy this week – I was tired 😴 after hiking Sunday and Monday I had to work late and by the time I had dinner and went fishing 🎣 it was dark and I had to call it a night 🌃.
Come the close of business tomorrow 💼 it will have been a six night camping trip with five days of work and a weekend through in when I did some hiking. Left last Thursday at 6 am before work, I’ll be home before 8 pm Wednesday this week. Because five out of the seven days were work days and my office has been quite busy, I won’t say I did a lot of scenic viewing but the hike through the dirt logging trails of Perkins Clearing to the Speculator Pig Rock 🐽 and Jessup River 🐠, the hike to Fawn Lake and Wilcox Vly were nice. 🚶 As was fishing 🎣 down at Mason Lake after work and hiking the Speculator Nature Trail several times. Solar for the most part kept my work laptop 💻 well charged.
But alas I’m running low on clothes 👖 andfood 🍔 so I need to head home tomorrow after work. The ice will be gone by tomorrow but I have little left to spoil. There is no reason this can’t repeat in two weeks should my office remain closed. 🏢 That said I kind of expect to be riding the bus 🚍 to work downtown next week even though nothing formal has been announced yet. Autumn though maybe the pandemic will be back and I can hunt before work. Plus a lack of sun later in the week poses a problem for keeping the meccessary electrons flowing.

My goal is to take down camp quite early tomorrow and be on the road to Speculator 🚙 which is only a ten minute drive away. Then get into the meat 🍖 of the day, get client issues addressed and maybe if there is a little downtime before 11 am hop in the Speculator Beach or hike at the nature trail. I’m hoping I won’t have to work late like on Monday. Then I’m pretty sure I’ll drive home. Not thinking it’s going to be that cloudy ⛅ all day and while there may be some severe thunderstorm ⚡ in the afternoon I feel relatively safe working inside the truck. I’ll shut off the inverter and unplug the laptop if there is severe lightning.
Honesty, working up in the Adirondacks has been a lot more productive than working at home 🏡 or in the office 🏢. For one, I don’t use my work laptop for any personal business including checking the weather or news 📰 and certainly not my blog. If I was in the office on the wired or Wi-Fi internet, especially in my personal laptop I’d be checking social media multiple times a day, reading the news and probably streaming a YouTube video in the background. 📹 I also feel like while I’m working remotely, especially in the Adirondacks camping, I have to be super responsive to client texts, calls and emails especially during work hours. 📟 While I try to be serious at work, remote work from the Adirondacks I’m twice as serious about doing my job to the best of my ability. I don’t want to make it seem like I’m on vacation. 🏊
