The Promise of the $20,000 House

I like the idea of a $20k house and the fact it's not all made out of vinyl siding or asbestos shingles. The windows are a bit small, but I guess one could swap them out for bigger windows -- maybe go a reuse shop? I assume it has a hot shower, and I could envision putting solar cells on the roof for off-grid power.

Then again, the Internet is full of ideas for cheap mini-houses, most of them just converted over sheds. This thing looks a bit bigger.

Sometimes you can argue that Americans are too timid at redesigning our cities, although we did learn a lot of lessons from urban renewal in the 1960s. But it seems like the Japanese go a little bit overboard with their disposable housing.
