The Elm Avenue Park and Ride offers a convenient way to get downtown without the hassles of urban traffic. Located next to the Elm Avenue Park at the end of the Delmar Bypass (NY 32), it is serviced by several buses that will quickly transport you downtown.

There is a new, expanded schedule for the Elm Avenue Park and Ride. 5 morning buses depart there, 5 buses in the afternoon plus a mid-day bus schedule. Very convenient. http://www.cdta.org/uploads/Route719.pdf

On this day, the Great 1977 New York City Blackout begins, plunging New York into 24 hours of darkness, chaos, and crime. It really was a dark time in the city.🌆

I popped the hood when I got home and determined I need my star wrench to get the air filter box out so I can replace the headlight bulb. I think I know where that is and hopefully this won’t be a a difficult problem tomorrow. πŸ’‘ Sunday is going to be hot, may do some kayak fishing then. 🚣 I also want to get some more books out of the library and work on an electronics project. Maybe next weekend I’ll get up to the Adirondacks as summer will be gone before you know it, especially once my summer vacation is done.

On this day in 1967, the Newark Riots begin with over six days of rioting, looting, and destruction leaving 26 dead.💥 We really are fortunate that despite living troubled times, there has been no rioting in our cities.

Definitely going to be a nice day to be locked in a basement but hey you gotta pay the bills. 💰The weekend isn’t that far away although I will probably spend it in town as Saturday doesn’t look all that great and Sunday will be hot. I was thinking about getting a haircut before vacation in two weeks, 👨but I don’t have to stay in town next weekend to do that as I can always visit the barber before work some weekday.

There is a lot of traffic heading downtown this morning, 🚙🚓🚌🚒🚕🚗 But that’s fine as I got an early start and taking the express bus downtown.

I am definitely looking forward to vacation in the Finger Lakes in two and a half weeks. 😎 I’m hoping it’s fairly warm and sunny, as that’s the best weather for enjoying the gorges and swimming. Not sure if I’m going to spend the whole week in the Finger Lakes or will head further west for the second half of the week. I’m still chewing over that.

Of its decent weather next weekend, I might head back up to the Potholers and paddle Lily Lake. 🏊 I’m curious about how many of the campsites now have outhouses and if any of the sites have tables and fireplaces yet. Its cool about that rumor about the upgrades if it’s true. I’m a bit skeptical as they never finished the UMP.

One month 📅 from now will be Last Sunset After 8 PM 🌆 when the sun will be setting at 8:00 pm with dusk at 8:31 pm. The average high temperature is 32 degrees, with a record high of 61 in 1895.

July 11, 2018 11:02 pm Update

I listen to the news less and less these days. πŸ“°

I’m just kind of disinterested on what they are reporting as most of the stories don’t really apply to my life. While once an interested consumer who would listen to WAMC several hours a day, it’s not uncommon for me to only turn the radio on πŸ“» to catch the weather β˜” then head down to breakfast.

I guess the news effects me but most of it distant places that have little relevance to my life. πŸ—Ύ I’m sure it’s terrible that some kids somewhere are trapped in a cave or that the president is nominating yet another judge to the Supreme Court but I struggle to understand the relevance my own life.

It just seems like more and more news is about selling laundry soap and pushing a political agenda, πŸ“’ rather than something that makes all that much of a difference to my own life.

July 11, 2018 Morning

Good morning! What day is it? I have no idea. Sorry. Three weeks to August 🌻. Mostly cloudy and 69 degrees in Albany. ☁There is a north-northwest breeze at 7 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 60 degrees. Going to get less humid later.

Today will have a slight chance of showers before 11am. Sunny 🌞 , with a high of 81 degrees at 3pm. Typical for today. Maximum dew point of 60 at 8am. North wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly cloudy skies with some clearing in the afternoon. It was humid. The high last year was 84 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1936.

The sun will set at 8:33 pm with dusk around 9:07 pm, which is 31 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for mostly clear skies and 72 degrees. The dew point will be 51 degrees. There will be a north breeze at 7 mph. Going to be a nice evening. Today will have 15 hours and 4 minutes of daytime, an decrease of one minute and 17 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear 🌃, with a low of 58 degrees at 5am. Six degrees below normal. Maximum dew point of 53 at 6pm. North wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm after midnight. Nice sleeping weather. In 2017, we had mostly clear skies with more clouds in the early hours of the next day. It was sticky. It got down to 68 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1978.

On this day in 1962, live television was transmitted for the first time across the Atlantic Ocean. 📡 Telstar! The future seen in black and white. Seems odd nowadays, when so much commerence is global and we can access a server next door as quickly as in France. That said, most of those connections nowadays are done using fiber optics cable.

I am thinking about staying in town this weekend, as I doubt I’ll have a chance to replace the headlight on my truck until the weekend, :idea:and the forecast continues to slide downhill. Cloudy and stormy on Saturday although Sunday will be sunny and hot. I guess I could go to Schoharie County after fixing the headlight but after a crazy week I think I’d rather stay home. Maybe the following week I would go back to Piseco Powley Road and paddle Lily Lake.🚣 🌼

I am thinking about buying a hammock to use camping. 💤I think it would be fun to tie between two trees either as a lightweight way to camp in the back country or a lazy afternoon st a campsite. Might be fun during summer vacation. At this point, summer vacation is only two and a half weeks away especially if I leave from work.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until August 🌻 when the sun will be setting at 8:15 pm with dusk at 8:46 pm. It will however be later when I’m in the Finger Lakes that week. On that day in 2017, we had mostly sunny skies and temperatures between 87 and 62 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 82 degrees. We hit a record high of 101 back in 1933.
