Popular destinations within the unit include Debar Mountain, Azure Mountain and Debar Meadows. Other popular pastimes are hunting, fishing, canoeing and boating. June 27, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Saturday. It’s the weekend! I’m heading home later today. Overcast and 63 degrees at the Jones Pond. ☁ Calm wind. The dew point is 52 degrees. The skies will clear around noontime.

I took down camp β›Ί and all is packed and except for the hammock and the kayak. I am going to go for one more paddle on Jones Pond and then maybe check out the Bloomingdale Marsh. Then I’ll head down through the High Peaks πŸ—» and then down the Northway. With the Mauls closed β›” I expect traffic to be light on the expressway but I can always hop on US 9 at times if I’m bored.

Today will have a 30 percent chance of showers, mainly after 10am. Partly sunny 🌦, with a high of 76 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 9th. Maximum dew point of 58 at 2pm. South wind 3 to 7 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 87 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1941.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 1:02 pm with sun having an altitude of 69.1Β° from the due south horizon (-0.1Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 8:02 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (297Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the northwest (305Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:46 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 36 seconds with dusk around 9:22 pm, which is one second earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter πŸŒ“ Moon in the southwest (230Β°) at an altitude of 38Β° from the horizon, 226,590 miles away. πŸš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 10:11 pm. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 60 degrees. The record low of 43 occurred back in 1970.

On this day in 1985, U.S. Route 66 is officially removed from the United States Highway System. 🚧 You could no longer get you’re kicks on Route 66 because everybody was taking I-40 and I-44 through the heartland of America.

Water levels are high and mucky. Might come back tomorrow.

June 26, 2020 Evening

Good evening! Or is it morning? I think the clock flipped over at midnight. Partly cloudy and 59 degrees at the Jones Pond. There is a southwest breeze at 5 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 50 degrees.

Just got back from a midnight paddle on Jones Pond. 🚣 Nice evening, mild but not sticky. By the time I got off the lake though more clouds were pushing in. πŸ”₯ After a nice campfire I drowned the fire and made sure it was out cold before bed because it’s been so dry out.

It was a quiet day at work, πŸ’Ό a few small projects but I had to stay close to my phone and work laptop πŸ’» in case any projects came my way. It was a nine to five work day and I would be in deep shit πŸ’© if I was having fun in the woods while clocked in and not getting work done. 🎣 At five o’clock I rushed out to the lake to go fishing and forgot my life jacket. Later on in the evening fishing after dinner I brought my life jacket. The lake is pretty shallow and not that big but kids drown in kiddie pools 🏊 and it’s the law to have one on board.

Overnight will have increasing clouds ☁, with a low of 56 degrees at 7pm. South wind 3 to 5 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 87 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1941.

Tonight will have a First Quarter πŸŒ“ Moon with 37% illuminated. At 12 AM, the moon was in the west (275Β°) at an altitude of 8Β° from the horizon, some 227,415 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. πŸš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by December 17th. Buckle up for safety! πŸ’Ί The moon will set in the west-northwest (282Β°) at 12:42 am. The moon will rise at 12:13 pm. The Buck 🦌 Moon is on Sunday, July 5. The darkest hour is at 1:02 am, followed by dawn at 4:40 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:17 am in the northeast (56Β°) and last for 3 minutes and 36 seconds. Sunrise is 26 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:01 am with sun in the east-northeast (63Β°). Tonight will have 8 hours and 31 minutes of darkness, an increase of 29 seconds over last night.

Saturday will have a 40 percent chance of showers, mainly after 9am. Mostly cloudy 🌦, with a high of 74 degrees at 2pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 2nd. Maximum dew point of 59 at 6pm. South wind 6 to 14 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 87 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1941.

Tomorrow I’m heading home. 🏑 Not planning on rushing home – I have all day to get home and plan to stop in Saranac Lake and maybe in the High Peaks if I can find easy parking πŸ…Ώ or any other nature preserve I see. Going to be a cloudy day tomorrow so I won’t have much sun for good pictures but I’m sure driving home the alternator will bring the battery bank πŸ”‹ to be fully restored. Sunday I’m going out to the folks house for dinner I think. 🍲

In four weeks on July 25 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (299Β°) at 8:30 pm,πŸŒ„ which is 15 minutes and 40 seconds earlier then today. In 2019 on that day, we had sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 85 and 59 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 83 and 62 degrees. The record high of 97 degrees was set back in 1963.

Beautiful day

Hank Williams

Tonight started with Merle and then went to Glen Campbell and I guess the only logical conclusion is Hank Williams. 🎸

Kind of like the Long Island Expressway.

With social distancing, I was thinking the Albany County Rail Trail is going to add a parallel trail six feet away, with a ten foot high barrier where this is not possible. Then they’ll have to add controlled entrance and exits, along with traffic lights on the ramps for metering to ensure adequate spacing. Kind of like the Long Island Expressway.

Saranac Lake

Driving through Saranac Lake yesterday, I saw a beer truck advertising Corona and the beach lifestyle. A few blocks later I passed a building that had a big sign out front “COVID-19 TESTING HERE”. Coincidence?
