Baking Backcountry Bread in the Coleman Camp Oven – Adventure Journal
I love my Coleman Camp Oven. Makes the best food, especially when it's cold and wet.
TA Outdoors – Camping in a Debris Shelter (Bushcraft)
"Join me on a bushcraft camp overnight in a debris shelter with Dustin from Bushcraft Tools and Haze Outdoors. We camp in the woods in a natural debris shelter made from logs and cedar boughs. We fire up the lanterns and build a log bench bushcraft style with an axe and saw. At night I sleep on deer hide beds with a wool blanket. This is part 1 of a 3 day camping trip. Part 2 is up next week!"
HOW TO MAKE YOUR COOLER STAY COOLER.
My Camping Hammock
The camping hammock I bought not only seems like a good way to take a nap while back at my campsite, and it seems like an easy way to back country camp. It’s great for taking a nap, reading a book or playing on my smartphone. The hammock when folded up in its built in bag is about a third of the size of my day pack, it takes all of 30 seconds to assemble. Much smaller than a tent and a sleeping pad to say nothing about a sleeping bag and something to use as a pillow when tent camping.
I fell asleep in the hammock last weekend at camp, listening to a podcast. The walls of the hammock are high, almost like a cacoon, so it’s unlikely that one would roll out of it. It’s fairly comfortable but I do think a pillow or a something acting as a pillow can make it even more comfortable.
I have fairly broad shoulders and the sides of hammock put a bit of pressure on the shoulders although maybe I could try repositioning myself in the hammock to reduce the pressure on my shoulders. Not really uncomfortable but waking up I did find a bit of odd tightness in my shoulders. Using a pillow and stringing closer between trees that are closer does help a lot though.
The first hammock I got had a defective carabiners that broke the second time I used it but after I exchanged it the new one seems good with no issues with the carabiners and quite comfortable. Other than that the finish of the hammock seems good and able to hold my weight. I’m not sure how you can call it a double hammock – but then again I’m a big guy. After the exchange of the defective hammock, I’m quite happy with the product.
Gas Up
So I ended up deciding against camping tonight. I am thinking of going fishing and kayaking tomorrow in the morning and camping would put me in the wrong location.β The Gas Up is in Gallupville so it would be hike down to Burnt Rossman State Forest.βΊ I could have tent camped at Dutch Settlement State Forest but I decided against that as I didn’t want to bother to get all the gear packed and unpacked.
So I went to the Gas Up. No parade on Saturday so I was a bit disappointed but less crowded and lots of motors and demonstrations. 🚜Its really a fun event with the kiddos and the big kids like myself. It’s nice to get away from Albany for a while and there is some really beautiful country out that way.
This afternoon I’m hiking at the OSI parcel of Thatcher Park. 🌻 a bit hazy. I really need to go grocery shopping this evening then I’m thinking I’ll walk down to the park and upload photos and videos from my day. 📷 Then I’ll sit out back have a beer or two until late.
Good Camp! (Talk About a Ton of Gear)
I am impressed by this camp, but I guess a lot of gear makes sense if you set up a deer camp for a whole season.
