Good morning! Today should be a really nice Wednesday, once the fog burns off.Β It will be mostly sunny, with temperatures around 80 degrees expected by afternoon. Believe it or not, the humidity will be creeping up this afternoon, and by evening it might even feel a bit sticky. Might not be quite as warm as the 83 degrees we had last year, but it’s still well above the 74 degrees that’s normal for this time of year.
I was glad that I had a fresh pot of coffee to start out the morning.Β Because I was low on coffee, the past few days my coffee has been weak, and I think the fact that I buy coffee in bulk, after 3-4 months of going through the container, the last bit of coffee isn’t the potent. But I sure love reusing those containers for making ice. They are quite waterproof and do not leak like the plastic milk bottles.
The sun will set at 7:07 pm with dusk around 7:35 pm, which is one minute and 47 seconds earlier than yesterday. At sunset, look for partly cloudy conditions and 72 degrees. The dew point will be 62 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 5 mph. That would be perfect for going down to the park, except sunset is expected so early.Β Today will have 12 hours and 33 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will have a slight chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low of 63 degrees at 3am. 11 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 62 at 6pm. South wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2016, we had mostly cloudy skies, clearing in the early hours of the next day. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 53 degrees. The record low of 32 occurred back in 1963.
The weekend still looks nice.Β I plan to get packed and will head out from work on Friday.Β I may or may not leave early, I’m undecided but I will drive straight to Amsterdam on the Thruway to save time and buy firewood in advance. This way, I will avoid driving in the dark, and will be able to set up quickly, even if it’s after dusk (and it may be raining). The weekend does look beautiful for sure. After so many rainy summer weekends, a change sure is nice.
Looking ahead, there are 3 weeks until 6:30 PM Sunset when the sun will be setting at 6:30 pm with dusk at 6:58 pm. On that day in 2016, we had cloudy skies and temperatures between 69 and 53 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 65 degrees. We hit a record high of 86 back in 1891.
Good morning! Happy State Primary Day.Β Mostly sunny and 53 degrees in Delmar. Calm wind. Some fog in the city. Polls open at noon time in most of Upstate NY, assuming you have a primary to vote in. It’s going to be a pretty nice day, feeling like a mid-summer day by afternoon.
It was a nice walk down to the express bus stop.Β Once again, it was a big articulated bus, one of those 60-foot two part buses. It seems kind of silly, but I guess they just swing by the Park and Ride after coming from the garage or maybe between runs. I don’t know CDTA’s thinking but it gets me to work. It was again a few minutes late, but I made it into work in plenty of time.
Today will be sunny, with a high of 81 degrees at 3pm. Seven degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 56 at 6pm. Calm wind becoming west around 6 mph in the afternoon. Going to be a beautiful day, more like Indian Summer. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 77 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1947.
The sun will set at 7:09 pm with dusk around 7:37 pm, which is one minute and 46 seconds earlier than yesterday. At sunset, look for mostly clear conditions and 72 degrees. The dew point will be 56 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 12 hours and 36 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low of 53 degrees at 5am. Typical for tonight. Maximum dew point of 57 at 8pm. Calm wind. In 2016, we had clear skies. It got down to 52 degrees. The record low of 37 occurred back in 1964.
So at least for me it’s primary today. I happen to be in the County Legislature District that has a special election primary today. I’ve been looking at the candidates, and while I understand the pros of one, the question becomes do you want an appointed incumbent or a fresh new face? A women or a man? A candidate endorsed by Conservative Party or the Working Families Party?
There also is a Corner Primary for the county, which happens to be a $20,000 a year part time job where you get to tell families about the bad news, and are only person in county government that can pronounce if a death was murder, suicide, or natural cause. The later, while not seeming to be important, actually really is, because it can mean the life of someone — you can’t charge somebody with murder, if the corner pronounces the person as not being murdered, even if the police or district attorney believes else-wise. Especially when it relates to abortion or assisted suicide, this is a big deal. Normally though, the corner just signs off on the recommendations of the medical examiner, if a death investigation is requested, but in no means has to.
Good evening! Clear and 63 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. The dew point is 51 degrees. Not a half bad evening, sitting out back drinking orange juice. I almost prefer drinking a cold glass of that over beer.
Tonight will have patchy fog after 2am. Otherwise, mostly clear, with a low of 48 degrees at 5am. Six degrees below normal. Calm wind. In 2016, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 49 degrees. The record low of 36 occurred back in 1875.
Tonight will have a Waning Gibbous Moon with 51% illuminated, rising at 11:30 pm. The moon will set tomorrow at 2:27 pm. The Last Quarter Moon will be tomorrow with a slight chance of showers. The Hunter Moon is on Thursday, October 5th. The sun will rise at 6:32 am with the first light at 6:03 am, which is one minute and 4 seconds later than yesterday. Tonight will have 11 hours and 21 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over last night.
Tomorrow will have patchy fog before 9am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high of 78 degrees at 3pm. Four degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 56 at 6pm. Calm wind becoming west around 6 mph in the afternoon. Going to be a really nice day. A year ago, we had mostly cloudy skies with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 77 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1947.
Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. Saturday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 77. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 65 at 2pm. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 78. Maximum dew point of 62 at 1pm. This is almost a bonus summer weekend. In mid September. Typical average high for the weekend is 72 degrees. I think we may have a nice warm up for the second half of the week into the weekend.
I am thinking about one last trip up to Piseco-Powley Road for the weekend. I may drive down to Little Falls on Saturday and explore Moss Island and the Mohawk River. Then the Potholers during the evening and next day. I also want to hike back and do some fishing in House Pond.
I’m thinking about the last week of September to go up to Moose River Plains to enjoy the fall foliage. Also still planning on going to West Virginia and Virginia to see more of those states in autumn and to drive more of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Maybe some short hikes too, although by autumn the days are getting short. I should really start planning that soon.
In four weeks on October 9 the sun will be setting at 6:21 pm, which is 49 minutes and 14 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2016 on that day, we had rain, drizzle, cloudy skies and temperatures between 60 and 46 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 63 and 42 degrees. The record high of 83 degrees was set back in 1949.
Looking ahead, More Night Then Day in Albany is in 2 weeks, Columbus Day is in 4 weeks, Christmas is in 15 weeks, January 1, 2018 is in 16 weeks and 35th Birthday is in 20 weeks.
I have to say I did quite a bit of camping this past summer, getting out 26 nights and a total of 35 days at camp. It was pretty rainy and cool for most of the summer, so I really didnβt get as much time swimming or enjoying hot summer days as I would have liked. I only really got up to the Potholers once, although I was at Piseco-Powley Road twice this summer, the second time it was too cold for swimming. Maybe it will warm up this September, and it will be nice enough to swim in the potholers one more time. I donβt know. It did get swimming a fair bit in the Finger Lakes, but many days just seemed cold and cloudy β there werenβt a lot of beautiful days out there in the woods.
I also wish I had gotten up to the Northern Adirondacks this summer. Maybe not to always crowded Floodwood Road or the St. Regis Canoe Area, but I would have liked to see some of those lakes, and maybe gone up to the Deer River area. Maybe later in the fall. I also wish I had spent more time at Moose River Plains, but I decided against it for the last holiday weekend due to the weather. Maybe late September when the leaves turn.
I didnβt spend as much time paddling, fishing or shooting. I mean should do more now, that hunting season for some small game are open. I could do that up at Moose River Plains when I go up there in a few weeks to see the fall colors. Those nice summer days are gone, and even if we do have breaks of warm weather, we will never have those late sunsets, which are now getting closer to 7 PM each day as we head to the first day of calendar autumn.
It does seem like the summer went by much too quickly. Thatβs all Iβm going to really say.
I am super excited about these change in the weather pattern come the end of November. We might get a bunch of snow tomorrow, especially in the higher elevations where I like to spend nights in the wilderness, but it seems unlikely that the snow will last with a warming trend expected for the second half of the month, although we will have to watch to see what comes of this weather pattern.
