December 13, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday. I know with remote work πŸ’» the days all kind of blend together, especially now that I’m working from home mostly. But at least on the weekends I get to sleep in. 😴 And indeed I did today. Three weeks to Latest Sunrise of the Winter πŸŒ„οΈ. Cloudy and 49 degrees in Delmar, NY. πŸŒ₯ There is a southwest breeze at 11 mph. πŸƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 3 am. β˜ƒοΈ

Last night I was up until about two AM. πŸ•’ I really got digging into the QGIS 3D Mapping feature, trying to figure out all that I could do with it. πŸ—Ί I haven’t been up that late in years but the previous day was such a haze in the me after taking that extra sleeping pill by mistake. Feeling pretty good today though.

This morning I went for a short hike to Swift Preserve 🐦 and saw a couple of bluebird which was kind of neat. It’s actually amazing how much nature you can find in that little pocket park/preserve. It’s just undeveloped wetland that the developer couldn’t develop after modern wetlands laws 🐸 but nature thinks it’s a great refuge in suburbia. And it’s less than a quarter mile from my house 🏑 – so close but tiny at 19 acres I often forget about it.

Later on I plan to go to up to Troy for a informal outdoor meeting of sorts, πŸŒ²πŸŒ³πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘§ that is a socially distant meeting. After the meeting I hope to go hiking at Peebles Island 🏝. Hopefully this time of year it won’t be too crowded and there will some sun β˜€. Had a little bit of sun this morning and it’s pretty mild.

Today will have patchy drizzle before 2pm. Mostly cloudy β›…, with a high of 51 degrees at 12pm. 14 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 9th. Southwest wind around 11 mph becoming west in the afternoon. A year ago, we had light snow in the morning, which became cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 40 degrees. The record high of 58 was set in 1984. 14.0 inches of snow fell back in 1915.❄

Solar noon 🌞 is at 11:51 am with sun having an altitude of 24.2Β° from the due south horizon (-46.6Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 13.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 3:38 pm with the sun in the southwest (231Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west-southwest (239Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:23 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 24 seconds with dusk around 4:54 pm, which is 11 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:31 pm. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies ☁ and temperatures around 46 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 5 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 35 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy πŸŒ₯, with a low of 32 degrees at 4am. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 16th. West wind 6 to 11 mph becoming light northwest after midnight. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 35 degrees. The record low of -5 occurred back in 1898.

Back in 1962, NASA launches Relay 1, the first active repeater communications satellite in orbit. πŸ’«

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Latest Sunrise of the Winter πŸŒ„οΈ when the sun will be setting at 4:34 pm with dusk at 5:06 pm. On that day in 2020, we had mostly cloudy, mild, rain showers and temperatures between 47 and 39 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 31 degrees. We hit a record high of 61 back in 1913.
