On this day in 1966, the Beatles perform their last concert before paying fans at Candlestick Park in San Francisco. After this, if you wanted to hear the Beatles, you had to listen to them on vinyl records or AM radio. Their next album would be Sargent Pepper’s Lonely Club Heart band, and it would have a dramatically different sound then the Love, Love Me Do records.

Charles Franklin Kettering, the American engineer and longtime director of research for General Motors Corp. (GM), is born on August 29, 1876, in Loudonville, Ohio. Of the 140 patents Kettering obtained over the course of his lifetime, perhaps the most notable was his electric self-starter for the automobile, patented in 1915.
