August 23, 2019 Morning
Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Next Friday is Labor Day Weekend Begins ๐จโ๐ญ. I’m looking at the forecast now and will probably take next Friday off before the long weekend. Partly cloudy and 63 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. โ Calm wind. The dew point is 55 degrees.
A pretty nice morning, almost autumn like. ๐Beats the humidity we had yesterday and it’s clearing out nicely.๐ป It’s hard to believe that a week from now it will be Labor Day. It feels like I was just fighting black flies ๐ a few weeks ago. How fast those summer days go. That said, I do feel a bit congested this morning, and even tired — which is unusual as I was in bed by 9:30 PM last night.๐
Today will be partly sunny ๐, with a high of 79 degrees at 3pm. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around August 24th. Maximum dew point of 55 at 8am. Northwest wind 3 to 8 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 78 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1947.
The sun will set at 7:44 pm with dusk around 8:13 pm, which is one minute and 36 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ and temperatures around 73 degrees. The dew point will be 53 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 13 hours and 33 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 40 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will be mostly clear ๐, with a low of 53 degrees at 5am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 12th. Maximum dew point of 54 at 9pm. Northwest wind 3 to 7 mph. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 57 degrees. The record low of 42 occurred back in 1971.
Yesterday was the Save the Pine Bush hike ๐ฒย It was a nice hike, although it was a bit cloudy and humid. Still it was a pretty night hiking at the Pine Bush. ๐ฆ Because the clouds came in early, we didn’t spend a lot of time looking at the stars, but so be it. You can’t really control the weather. But it was still a nice evening the Pine Bush and we had pretty good turn out.
On this day in 1970, Cรฉsar Chรกvez’s Salad Bowl strike, the largest farm worker strike in U.S. history, begins. ๐ It will be interesting to see how things play out with the Farm Workers Bill of Rights in New York. I suspect it will have a much smaller impact then the critics claim. ๐ท๐ฎ๐๐ฝ
Tomorrow will be sunny ๐, with a high of 76 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 5th. Maximum dew point of 53 at 6pm. North wind 5 to 8 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 85 degrees. The record high of 95 was set in 1947.
Looking ahead to Sunday, mostly sunny, โ with a high near 76. Light and variable wind becoming east around 6 mph in the morning. Maximum dew point of 57 at 10am. Typical average high for the weekend is 79 degrees.
This weekend I am going to stay in town,ย although there is a small chance that on Saturday night I might do an overnight at a local state forest backcountry in a hammock, but that’s not set in stone.๐ I’ve been wanting to do that adventure for a while, and need not be a long or distant trip — just pack a small day pack with the stuff needed for a night in the wilderness. Or I may stay in town, because I’m thinking of taking a long weekend for Labor Day Weekend was we close out summer — probably head up Friday morning and coming back on Labor Day.
As previously noted, next Friday is Labor Day Weekend Begins ๐จโ๐ญ when the sun will be setting at 7:32 pm with dusk at 8:01 pm. On that day in 2018, we had humid, partly sunny and temperatures between 82 and 62 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 78 degrees. We hit a record high of 98 back in 1953.
