April 7, 2021 Morning
Good morning! Today is 7:30 PM Sunset π . Might be a nice day for reading down in the park after work. I don’t expect a long day today. Four weeks to Cinco de Mayo π€ . Partly sunny and 45 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. Kind of the calm after the storm, after a crazy day at work and a crazy day all together. I probably shouldn’t have cussed out that little ol’ lady at the store, who was taking too long at the counter by where the eggs are. π₯ Lost my temper, but she was like looking at every egg for like 10 minutes. π It was a tough day yesterday with work and everything else going on, and I think I was sleep deprived. I can be a son of a bitch when I’m tired and cranky.
There was a just a lot of miscellaneous things going on with work, πΌ and I felt like shit all morning — had some chills and aches, as it felt like I have Lyme disease coming back on again. π I can’t believe I’m getting Lyme again, but I’m hoping it’s just a temporary bug or I accidentally consumed something contaminated with mold or something. Sunday after hiking Bennett Hill I was out at my parents house, and found ticks crawling over my laptop then on my jeans. π Then later in the evening, I felt something crawling up my pants. Today, certainly the pollen is bad from the tree outside. I don’t know why I’ve gotten so sensitive to everything now that I’m old. It’s not like I haven’t spent that much time indoors, I’ve been exposed to plenty of mud, muck and smoke over the years. Shouldn’t be allergic to any shit these days. Some it though is the work schedule — I worked until midnight last night π΄ and then had to be up early to drop my truck off at the shop to get the oil changed at 8 AM the nigth day.
Then when I got my truck back from the oil change, I found out the shop only used regular oil and not synthetic. π’ I didn’t say anything, bit my tongue. π But I guess that’s fine, I probably should be changing the oil more often on my truck as with the leaky oil coolant line and adding oil, I’m probably building up sludge. I told them synthetic please when the order was written up, but then I got the bill back they put in regular. It’s not a big deal, I still think with modern oils I can go at least 5,000 miles which will get me through the summer. I have that airbag recall π for the truck that needs to be done, so maybe when I take it to the General they can do another oil change and rotate the tires. I haven’t them rotate the tires this time figuring the tires are getting old and the uneven wear. I think too much about oil on my truck, constantly measuring the dip stick, topping it off so it’s perfect, and when I changed my own oil, always using a top of the line filter and synthetic oil. π§ I should go back to doing it myself, but even I fuck it up and end up buying the wrong oil and having to go back to the store. Or be a drone, and every time I talk to anybody in the shop, remind them I want ducking synthetic oil. π©π§
Then when I went down to the library to work in the afternoon, π» the internet wasn’t working well on the outside router, and I ended up hiking to the other side of the building where I had better reception. For some reason my laptop has trouble connecting to the network properly when there are other computers on the same channel. πΆ I thought it was a Linux issue but I’ve noticed the same problems in Windows, even when I’m on the VPN. That just kind of continued my fury at all in world, π‘ although I was very restrained with everybody else I ran into for the rest of the day. I probably should have just stayed home, especially with my teeth chattering, feeling sick as a dog for a while. π€§ I doubt it’s the COVID, especially as it seems more like Lyme. Ironically, I feel better today. Everything was going wrong yesterday.
While I was up really late last night with work π΄ following another previous late night. At least with remote work π», late nights mean working with my laptop and/or my phone from bed, π and no dealing with having to drive home in the dark fully exhausted. I got a call much to early this morning that I left my keys π at the shop, so I’ll have to go back and pick them up today. And I’m feeling a lot better today. I think I’ll probably get to the shop around lunch time to pick up my keys, and then go to the library to work. Hopefully the internet will be better today. I mean it’s a nice day for working outdoors for sure. I left my windows open all night, and while it was cold in the early morning hours, I really like the fresh air.
Today will be sunny π, with a high of 66 degrees at 4pm. 11 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 3rd. Light north wind increasing to 5 to 9 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 65 degrees. The record high of 87 was set in 2010. 3.2 inches of snow fell back in 1896.β
I am hoping for a much better day today. π It’s sunny and warm, and despite smelling all that pollen in the air, my morning walk was quite pleasant. πΆβοΈ Later when I work down at the library, the sun should be nice and I’ll have plenty of solar power π» to keep my laptop fully charged. I honestly don’t mind not having Internet at home and working remotely when the weather is as nice as today expects to be. And the seat in my truck is so much more comfortable then that old paint bench I use at home. I really find working at home, I can’t spend more then a couple of hours in front of my computer working at home before my neck starts to hurt. π€ It seems like everything is just getting old and worn out.
Solar noon π is at 12:58 pm with sun having an altitude of 54.3° from the due south horizon (-16.5° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour π starts at 6:51 pm with the sun in the west (274°). πΈ
The sunset is in the west (280°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:28 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 57 seconds with dusk around 7:57 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. π The best time to look at the stars is after 8:32 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies π and temperatures around 61 degrees. There will be a north-northeast breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 2 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will be mostly clear π, with a low of 43 degrees at 5am. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 1st. Light and variable wind. In 2020, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 42 degrees. The record low of 19 occurred back in 2018. R
Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. π Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 69. Maximum dew point of 50 at 1pm. Sunday, a chance of showers after 8am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 64. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Maximum dew point of 53 at 1pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 56 degrees.
I kind of want to get up to the Adirondacks this weekend, but I don’t know. π I wish things weren’t so bone dry and the fire risk so high. π₯ Plus, Friday evening I have the John Wolcott interview with special guest Leon VanDyke, and I’m very excited about it and don’t want to miss the taping and the ability to participate. πΉ I still think we have more then a few weeks before the black flies dominate the Adirondacks. That said, the weekend forecast is improving, especially for Saturday, so I should plan something nice.
Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Cinco de Mayo π€ when the sun will be setting at 8:00 pm with dusk at 8:31 pm. On that day in 2020, we had sunny skies and temperatures between 59 and 38 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 66 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1944.
