March has arrived at the cabin. These are the final days of winter and it's good to just enjoy your time in the north woods. Hang out with me today while I do a quick fix to the snow blower on the tractor and I'll show you what happened to my ATV. Then we'll get some wood in and throw something on the grill at the end of the day.
LONDON, March 14 (Reuters) - Oil prices fell by around $5 a barrel on Monday as investors pinned hopes on diplomatic efforts by Ukraine and Russia to end their conflict, while a surge in COVID-19 cases in China spooked the markets.
Brent was down by $4.67, or 4.1%, at $108.00 a barrel at 1000 GMT, and U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude fell $5.71, or 5.2%, to $103.62 a barrel.
Both contracts have surged since Russia's Feb. 24 invasion of Ukraine and are up roughly 40% for the year to date.
I tend to think that the snow will not be long for this world with the warm temperatures expected. I turned off the heat this morning, I figure it will be above freezing all week and mild in the evening with lots of sun โ to warm the building. With inflation so high, interest rates so low, got to save money wherever possible. Plus if I’m cold in the early hours of the morning there is always the heated blanket. Maybe by Friday I can open the windows and have fresh air for a change.

Good morning! The Monday after daylight savings time hascome back around again. ๐
With the clouds it seems darker than yesterday. โ๏ธ But it’s nice with so much extra daylight in the evening. For a day supposed to reach the fifties by evening, the morning is awful cool. Not spring yet.
๐น๐ป๐ผOnly 6 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!๐น๐ป๐ผ
Overcast and 25 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ๏ธ There is a south breeze at 6 mph. ๐. There are 4 inches of snow on the ground. โ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at around 9 am. ๐ก๏ธ
Yesterday I went skiing ๐ฟ at Five Rivers Environmental Education Center for a while but by midday the snow wasn’t that great. Then I went out to the folks house ๐ช for cabbage and corned beef ๐ and skied a bunch more with the dog ๐ถ out back.
It’s nice having that extra sunlight in the evening. ๐ I went for the evening walk ๐ถ with still some daylight to spare and did not have to drive home in the dark. ๐ Looking forward to when I can go down to the park ๐ again with a book ๐. Had the library not been closed on Saturday due to the snow storm I probably would have gone there. I’ll probably go more now that they’ve dropped the muzzle mandate ๐ท as I don’t mind wearing a mask but not when I’m sitting down and working.
I don’t mind wearing the muzzle in public places ๐ท like crowded elevators or buses but not while sitting down and working. I’m so used to at this point just wearing the muzzle and boiling then in soapy water ๐ฆ every Sunday afternoon. It just becomes routine and if it keeps me from getting the COVID or a cold it’s worth it.
Besides the GIS class I’ve been taking ๐บ, I’ve been lately doing a map atlas a day I post on Facebook. It’s fun because it gets me looking for interesting sources of map data each day and new techniques for presenting information. ๐ There is a lot you can do with a combination of R programming language and QGIS with a python thrown in. Using R often makes complicated map joins quick.
Replaced the Microsoft building footprints with a combination of the NYSERDA building footprints and the NYC planning department footprints on my PostGIS database on my laptop. ๐ข The Microsoft building footprints aren’t bad and are far more extensive in rural areas than what was available in OpenStreetMap but had a lot of problems accurately displaying urban buildings. Then again, Microsoft building footprints was generated with machine learning while NYSERDA checked them against source photography. ๐
Tomorrow I’ll probably wash my truck ๐ป and go store for suppliers. ๐ Lots of little things I need – shoe rubber cement for fixing my ski ๐ฟ boots again, and fixing the trash can lid, toilet ๐ฝ cleaner and drain solvent to improve the bath ๐ drain. Cheese ๐ง as I got to have my dairy ๐ฎ and more frozen fruit. ๐ I have to work late tonight so it won’t happen today but going to be a mild week for a car wash. Then some point next month I’ll have to sand and paint over the rust again on Big Red.
