Good Morning – November 28, 2021
Good morning! Happy Sunday. π¨
Winter is definitely back today. Not as windy as yesterday but it is snowing a bit this morning and is pretty cool. Sure it would be warmer in my apartment if I turned up the heat and wore a sweater but I like being cold.
Snow and 26 degrees in Delmar, NY. β Calm wind. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. β οΈThings will start to thaw out at around 11 am. π‘οΈ
Maybe it will warm up later π₯ but I have my doubts. I think it will just be a cloudy, cold late November day.
Today I am working on some code π₯, with election results in PANDAS πΌ to ultimately plot in R to make some maps to show this week on the blog.
I went for a hike yesterday in the Norman’s Kill Gorge. πΆ It was windy but once I got into the gorge it wasn’t that cold. Then I went down to the library for a while and downloaded some videos to watch on the internet. π₯ My data meter says I’ve been using a lot of data lately so I should be careful so I don’t run out of hot spot or high speed data. π±
Did some much needed cleaning yesterday in the apartment, ποΈ and scrubbed the floors. Did some reading π too.
Going out to the folks house this afternoon for lunch π² and then I’ll go home before I have to drive in the dark. I just really hate driving π after dark.
I think it’s too cold β to plan much hiking today, although maybe this week I’ll try to get out and do more steps. I’ve kind of been bad at doing that since vacation and things getting so cold out.
I’ve been continuing to think π€ about what should be the next step on my mental health counseling adventure. I probably shouldn’t dwell on it so much, as thinking about it only makes it worse but I think I should look at investing a little more money in self-care and improving my well-being so I can take steps to get closer to my goals. π₯
I find it hard to believe winter is upon us again π¨

The salt is back on the roads, the driveway was covered with black ice. The wind was whipping around and it was bitterly cold when I started my walk down into the Norman’s Kill Gorge.
I am really not ready for winter. I know it’s been late after a mild November. But seeing all that road salt yesterday really hit home. And the cold. I can pretend that summer and autumn aren’t done but reality strikes. I knew it was going to happen at some point.

Do you do anything with Jupyter notebooks? If you do, there is a very good chance you’re working with the pandas library. This is one of THE primary tools of anyone doing computational work or data exploration with Python. Yet, this library is massive and knowing the idiomatic way to use it can be hard to discover.
That’s why I’ve invited Bex Tuychiev to be our guest. He wrote an excellent article highlighting 25 idiomatic Pandas functions and properties we should all keep in our data toolkit. I’m sure there is something here for all of us to take away and use pandas that much better.
