Officials Tour Storm-Damaged Cleanup Site | WAMC

Intense rain storms last month damaged restoration work at a Superfund site in Rensselaer County.

Little Thunder Brook, a stream in the drainage way of the contaminated Dewey Loeffel Landfill in the Town of Nassau, has been the subject of a PCB removal and stream restoration project begun in 2018.Several inches of rain and flooding from storms last month washed out stream banks and prompted officials to launch an ongoing sampling effort to determine if contaminated sediment was carried from the site.Today, Nassau Town Supervisor David Fleming joined officials with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos on a tour of the site. Soon after, Fleming told WAMC's Southern Adirondack Bureau Chief Lucas Willard he had worried about heavy storm events prior to last month's downpours.??Commissioner Seggos provided a statement on Thursday's visit to WAMC.

Good Morning – August 6, 2021

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Foggy Friday! 🌫

And I complained about how fast summer vacation came and went πŸ‡but August seems to be speeding along but maybe it’s because I’m working downtown more. 🏒

Modestly foggy 🌁 and 65 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. Already it seems like the fog is burning off and it’s going to be a hot day although nothing like later next week. β˜€

I checked and it looks like somehow I got the auto renew to work on bus card πŸ’³ again which is good as I am riding the bus 🚍 a lot more these days. That said, I kind of like how they have Wi-Fi at the office which I can use with my laptop πŸ–₯ when I have down time. That said it will be nice how my smaller pre pandemic phone πŸ“± plan now includes Hotspot data when I occasionally want it at home 🏑. But come September the library is open seven days a week including until 9 pm on Friday nights. And I’ll be back to working downtown five days a week.

Today though I’m working from home 🏑, although I’ll probably I will need to go to the library for several Zoom meetings. πŸ“Ή Normally I do most of that stuff with my phone but it gets harder with my cracked screen and it’s pain to move files back and forth to the computer as I don’t currently have hot spot service.

Been learning more about using PANDAS 🐼 with the FRED economic data πŸ“Š and also ArcGIS REST/Services. It’s just so much easier and faster to type a few lines of chained python commands into a Jupyter Notebook then manually manipulate the data in a Spreadsheet or QGIS. Sure those programs are good for doing some final formatting or outputting actual maps by are so much bloat for basic data wrangling. πŸ—Ί
