Why Adopting a Rescue Dog Is So Hard Right Now

There is something odd about rescue dogs, or a market that values used and often damaged products over new products in form of bred dogs. Some of it has to be marketing -- the idea of your rescuing a cute dog from certain death at a kill shelter. As if dogs had emotions beyond what their natural biology tells them to do to meet their needs like food and shelter.

You have to wonder how much of the rescue business is a fraud -- if the value of rescue dog, especially boutique breeds, continues to rise, there is going to be unscrupulous breeders that are going to be selling dogs to rescue businesses as "rescued" even if the only place the dog was rescued from was on paper.

Weather Update – July 22, 2021

It looks a nice week for summer vacation 🏊🏻‍♂️

Anxious or not it’s going to happen. ⏳Clocks and time must move forward, even on hot summer days when time slows a bit as the power plants suffer from a bit of droop.

One more, admittedly nice day to be working in the office downtown 🏢 then Friday work from home and come five o’clock head west. It will be a nice week, I tell myself.

Looking forward to a nice trip heading west into ag country of the big MOO 🐮, Madison Oneida Otsego then the hills of Onondagas where they have the orchards and big pungent dairies, the traffic jams and yuppies of Skaneateles, redneck Auburn and the flatland of Montezuma and then south to the hills of Southern Finger Lakes where the acres of silage 🌽 for the dairy moos 🥛 and grapes 🍇 for the winos 🍷.

Saturday I will set up camp for the week 🏕 and Sunday I’m not really decided. If the weather isn’t super nice, I might stay close to camp, with a book, do some hiking and beer drinking. 🍺 Maybe I’ll have clams by then, just because that’s all I can think about these days. Better then other things though I guess.

Good Morning – July 22, 2021

Good morning! A nice Thursday morning. 🌞

Sunny and 56 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☀ Calm wind. The dew point is 56 degrees.

A pretty nice morning, though there is still a brown haze almost entirely from the air pollution this morning. 🌫 But at least the haze is high in the sky and not lingering low like Tuesday.

Still doing my walk 🚶🏻 each day before work. It is a bit harder when I have that bus to catch every day of week but Friday at 8:30 AM 🚍 but I’ve changed my mornings so I have breakfast first. 🥞 This way I don’t have to worry about loosing track of time sipping coffee ☕.

Tomorrow starts summer vacation 🏊🏻‍♂️ and time doesn’t really matter except the Watkins Glen pool opens at 11 AM. 🎑 I can stay up until 2 or 3 AM watching the shooting stars ✨. Already saw one last night.

I got propane last night. 🏮 I needed 3.9 gallons as I hadn’t filled the tank since December and there was enough cold season camping to burn it up in the heater. ⛺ Some of my hoses leak too. But I should now have enough through autumn and won’t have to worry about getting any on vacation.

This evening, I want to run to the library and get some books 📚 out for summer reading on vacation. I want to fill my water tanks, 💦 pack the dry goods 🥫 and clean clothes 👚.

On Friday, they have Wi-Fi at the laundromat 👖 so I can work down there. 👨‍💻 I also want to get money 💵 at the bank 🏦 but I will drive there as I don’t want to take cash on the bus, even though I know the risk of theft or loss is pretty low.

Then after work on Friday, I am heading west. Nice thing from working from home is I can leave right at five, ⏲ or maybe slightly before then. Some will depend on the weather. 🏕 Then I will camp and head west. I am thinking I want to do Montezuma and maybe check out the Seneca Landfill Exhibit Center or possibly one of the preserves outside of Marcellus. 🏞 Then down to the National Forest.

Outside of Bridgewater

Setting sun outside of Bridgewater along the Cherry Valley Turnpike on Friday evening. Just another beautiful section of US 20.
