Traffic Counts in Long Lake
I was quite surprised how relative little traffic goes through the village of Long Lake. While sometimes busy in the summer months, the AADT of traffic going north through the village to Tupper Lake is a paltry 579 cars per day (or an average of one car passing every 2 1/2 minutes), although heading east on NY 28N towards Newcomb and Thruway, it's 1684 AADT or roughly one car per minute. Probably daytime traffic is much higher then nighttime traffic, although it looks the DOT hasn't done a time of day study.
Supreme Court to discuss case that could expand Second Amendment rights – CNNPolitics
(CNN)When Supreme Court justices meet behind closed doors Friday, a conference that comes three days after the country's latest mass shooting, they are scheduled to discuss whether to add a blockbuster issue to the docket for next term: the scope of the Second Amendment.
The court has largely dodged the issue since issuing two landmark opinions in 2008 and 2010, when it held for the first time that the Second Amendment protects an individual's right to keep and bear arms at home for self- defense.
Gun rights advocates and even some of the justices themselves have expressed frustration that the court has declined to further define the scope of the right as lower courts across the country have upheld restrictions.

I was reading New York City is bringing back their workforce starting on May 1st. I probably should figure on being back in the office starting then too, and things getting closer back to normal. I guess I’m fine with that, it will be a much more normal summer I expect, and I am glad with that. I can get rid of hotspot Internet at home, no more fussing around in library parking lots and relying on solar to make it through a busy day at work. Piseco-Powley Road should be open from the south again this year, meaning many more weekends spent up at Potholers and also it looks like the Mine Kill Pool will be renovated and I will be able to swim there too.
While all the remote work was fun the year that was, I am the first admit it really sucked at Piseco-Powley Road was closed. Maybe it wasn’t all bad — for one the southern entrance being closed due to that bad October 2019 storm — probably kept rowdy crowds out that could of damaged things because of the long detour through Piseco. The woods was popular, and litter was a problem everywhere, just because the mauls and many less socially-distanced activities were not available this year. But I bet things will return a lot closer to normal this year.
