With some warm weather this week, πŸ–οΈ and Memorial Day Weekend just around the corner, it seems like summer is just kicking off. Hard to think that next weekend will be June and weekends at the Potholers in nine-degree heat aren't that far off nor is summer vacation.

Sometimes it’s good to get knocked out of your comfort zone 🀯

I mean I would have never discovered those wonderful campsites along Prospect Mountain Road in Woodford, Vermont or for that matter the hike back to Little Pond and the snowmobile trails that would be mad fun on the mountain bike.

Woke up early this morning around 5:30 am to cook breakfast πŸ₯ž β˜• and start taking down camp before the rain comes in. After discovering this most wonderful of campsites the last thing I wanted to do was take down a bunch of wet gear and have to dry it out at home especially when rain β˜” is expected the next two days. With the stiff breeze this morning and the clouds, the black flies aren’t too bad. A few sprinkles here and there by besides the hammock and two flags 🎌 – American and Don’t Tread on Me – I have little to worry about getting wet.

And while I was disappointed πŸ˜₯ that Somerset Airfield Rd was gated and I ended up hammock camping the first two nights it was still an adventure and I’m glad I discovered several additional campsites and attractions near Woodford and Bennington. 🌲 At least in my mind, Prospect Mountain Road is such a jewel – the campsites are spread out but close to town, the road is fairly smooth and there is cell service πŸ“± which is nice for remote work and streaming radio πŸ“».

Little Pond was nice, 🐸 some nice views along the road, until you reach the wilderness barrier it’s very mountain bikable but I didn’t know that and didn’t ride. 🚢 Still it’s sometimes nice to take it slow and walk and observe nature. 🐦 I was sure after the hike I would he driving 🚘 home after exploring Bennington on bike but then I discovered Prospect Mountain Road on the map πŸ—Ί and the wonderful camping.

Last night turned out to be beautiful, πŸŒ‡ after the sunset and the black flies 🐜 were done. Sat by the fire πŸ”₯ until 11 pm, listening to podcasts and music. 🎢 Earlier on in the evening I rode along the road to the UTV trails and then along the trails for a while. 🚲 During black fly season dusk is always such a relief when you can emerge from the safety of the screen tent πŸŽͺ and screened hammock.

Prospect Mountain Road

I just happened to stumble upon it in a map πŸ—Ί and found some great campsites on this road a short distance from Bennington!
