Highest Crime Neighborhoods In America

"Even the most dangerous cities in America can have relatively safe neighborhoods, as there is more variation in crime within most cities than between cities. But using exclusive data developed by NeighborhoodScout, and based on FBI data from all local law enforcement agencies in America, we here report those specific neighborhoods in America that have the highest predicted rates of violent crime per 1,000 neighborhood residents of all. Violent crimes include murder, rape, armed robbery, and aggravated assault. These neighborhoods are the epicenters of violence in America, where social issues are likely to ignite into violence and spread."

December 30, 2016 8 AM Update

Taking the last express bus downtown for the year. Trees are snow covered here in the suburbs and we got a fair amount more of snow then in the city. 31 degrees this morning. There is a west breeze at 7 mph. Definitely salty out there, a lot of windshield washing going on from passing. Sidewalks were a bit icy, but not too bad as the town had dropped some salt on them. In a bit of a cloudy period, the skies will clear New Years Day around 5 am. Maybe though today we will see some breaks of sun.

Today will have some scattered snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high of 33 degrees at 10am. One degree above normal. Then dropping through the day. West wind 7 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had rain and a high of 40 degrees. The record high of 53 was set in 1984. 10.9 inches of snow fell back in 2000.

The sun will set at 4:31 pm with dusk around 5:03 pm, which is 49 seconds later than yesterday. Today will have 9 hours and 6 minutes of daylight, an increase of 41 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of snow showers before 3am. Mostly cloudy, with a low of 24 degrees at 3am. Seven degrees above normal. West wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2015, it got down to 37 degrees with periods of rain. The record low of -17 occurred back in 1917.

NextΒ Friday is Epiphany, the end of the Christmas holidayΒ when the sun will be setting at 4:38 pm with dusk at 5:09 pm. On that day in 2016, we had mostly sunny skies and temperatures between 34 and 5 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 31 degrees. We hit a record high of 71 back in 2007.

Not sure about camping this year and weekend. I’ll have to decide later in the day. It would be fun to spend New Years Eve in the wilderness but it’s going to a long cold dark night. New Years Day does sound pretty nice though.

The blog got aΒ slight refresh over the past few days.Β You may have to refresh the page to see the new look, but it puts the images up further to the top, and gets rid of some of the clutter. Kind of a new design for 2016.

Snowy Days

On snowy and icy days, and honestly any day, I do have to say I like being able to take the bus to work and not have to worry about cleaning off my pickup truck, and driving to work. I don’t have to gas up my truck, I don’t have to clean off the snow and ice, I don’t have to worry about slippery road conditions. I just walk down to the bus stop. I can use my phone on the way to work, I don’t have to pay attention to traffic or worry about getting a wreck, especially with so many very aggressive drivers in the city nowadays.

I certainly wouldn’t mind getting out of my apartment where I’m constantly fighting mildew downstairs with bleach or where the plaster continues to break and paint peals as everything rusts from the perpetual moisture problem this building has had since I’ve moved in. But my apartment is cheap and so convenient being near both an express bus line and local bus line. And I can walk to stores and the library – which is good because I don’t believe in having the internet at home.

I’d love to have land and a place that I could invest money into fixing up. Really there is no reason for me to even make the most minor of repairs to a place I rent. I’m going to lose any value from it when I move out. I’d love to be able to heat with wood or coal and not have to pay a fortune to local utility company to keep my place warm.

But I’m fine with things the way it is. And I sure like not having to worry about the winter weather…
