Sunny morning for the shopping day 🌞 🛒

Still a cold morning, but that sun puts you in a good mood. Off to get groceries and get going on my day. Still a fair amount of snow in the hilltowns, so I’ll have to consider that if I want to go out hiking later on.

Good morning! Today 7:30 PM Sunset 🌇 . Partly cloudy and 35 degrees in Delmar, NY. ⛅ There is a north breeze at 7 mph. 🍃. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 3 am. ☃️

Started the morning with pancakes 🥞, you know the usual conventional type I make with oatmeal, carrots and bananas pulverized for sweetness, some milk and egg and a bit of whole-wheat flower for binder. Good stuff in my perspective, especially once topped with lots of cherries and blueberries and real maple syrup. 🍁 Probably good for a sugar high too, but I figure the carrots and oatmeal will provide some fiber and the egg some fats to slow down the absorption and hopefully not damage my pancreas too much.  🥕 Remember while all the kids were eating candy 🍬 over the holiday weekend, I was staying away from all that crap.

Today will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 52 degrees at 5pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 1st. North wind 7 to 11 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 48 degrees. The record high of 87 was set in 2010. 3.2 inches of snow fell back in 1896.❄ Should be warm enough to at least have the windows open, air things out a bit and get the humidity down. I re-installed the smoke detector as I think it will work better now that my apartment isn’t so humid and smokey from cooking.

Shopping is the top of the agenda this morning. 🐔 Truth is my pantry isn’t in terrible shape, but I want to shop today so I can avoid going later in the week. The grocery store is usually best for stock early on a Sunday morning, and then I’m done and can leave Big Red parked all morning. I should also re-fill my propane tank  🏮 lest I decide to head out of town for the weekend. Asparagus 🌵 is on my list now that we are in spring, plus I’m thinking maybe make red lentil soup for lunch today with a bunch more of those carrots, maybe mixed with some cottage cheese and topped with nutritional yeast. Sounds yummie. 😋

Then maybe I’ll head out for a bike ride for a while. 🚲️ Nothing too major, maybe just a quick ride out to Five Rivers or Voorheesville. Honestly, it’s kind of a chilly not very nice day. That wind makes it cold, and there just isn’t a lot of warmth in the sun this morning. I was thinking about going to Partridge Run and crusing the backroads, looking for land, but I don’t want to hike in the snow. Next weekend I might camp out that way though. That said despite the cold wind, 🌬️  it does make things a lot more cheery having some sun. 😀 Tomorrow looks much nicer for going back to work, on my bicycle, and then watching the eclipse in the afternoon.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:58 pm with sun having an altitude of 54.4° from the due south horizon (-16.4° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 6:51 pm with the sun in the west (274°). 📸 The sunset is in the west (281°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:29 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 57 seconds with dusk around 7:57 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 The best time to look at the stars is after 8:32 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 49 degrees. There will be a north-northeast breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 5 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 49 seconds over yesterday.

Yesterday the bike ride didn’t happen, 📚️ but I did get through reading an e-book and a physical book, one about the contracting process of building a house and the other about Tiny Houses. I am not that interest in a tiny house, but I want to learn as much as possible about the process of building a house and working with construction materials, plus I’m still thinking small but not tiny cabin style of house 🛖 on lots of land. But will it happen this year? Maybe not. Okay, probably not. But I am learning a lot, and maybe if I do find a property that catches my eye and heart 🥰 and I find a way to make peace  ✌️ with the way things are in New York, I’ll be good.

Landlord was working on the unit next to mine,  🏘️ which I’m glad to see he’s improving before he re-rents it as it means I should be good in my current unit for another year, a bit at a somewhat higher rent. My apartment is still a dump, though I don’t blame myself that much for it at this point, but it’s not in anyone’s interest to improve my unit while I’m still here. I stay here because it’s cheap, not because it’s my only option. Been learning what it would take to improve my apartment, and while I won’t be doing it, I don’t feel guilty for things wearing out and being of need of repair over the past 15 years. I could have been more insistent on immediate repairs,  👨‍🔧 but honestly I don’t care that much about a building that ain’t mind and is mostly a bed between days at work and trips. At least I don’t think I’m in immediate risk of eviction. Worse comes to worse, I move  🚚 and end up paying more in rent. 💸

Tonight will be mostly clear 🌃, with a low of 30 degrees at 5am. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 29th. Northwest wind 5 to 8 mph. In 2023, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 28 degrees. The record low of 19 occurred back in 2018.

I am watching the forecast for tomorrow 🌘 and it doesn’t look that bad for the eclipse. Sucks that I have to work, but I got eclipse glasses 🕶️ for the whole team to enjoy watching the eclipse from the work parking lot most likely. Or maybe I’ll ride down to the Corning Preserve, though honestly I think the best view of the eclipse will be from the second floor of my building with the south side windows overlooking the Interstate 90 where the elevator is located.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Cinco de Mayo 🤠 when the sun will be setting at 8:01 pm with dusk at 8:31 pm. On that day in 2023, we had partly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 64 and 40 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 68 degrees. I’m looking forward to do days like that. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1944.

Route 10 Farm

That rye bread I made this morning was pretty good 🥖

Mom picked me up some rye flower and dill weed and adding some wheat flour, yeast, water, salt and some vital wheat gluten made some good bread. Wish I had more rise though, I could try more yeast next time or a higher portion of vital wheat gluten and less wheat flour. Wheat flour is difficult as it is very low in gluten and is heavy with all that healthy protein and fiber.

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Mostly sunny and 30 degrees in Albany, NY. There is a west breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. There are 0.3 inches of snow on the ground. ☃ ️Cold start to the morning, though warming up quickly, it will be above freezing by 9 AM.

Rode my bike in again to work today. 🚲 Like I do most days, while the weather is decent. Today is share cookies day in the office 🍪 so I had to be careful riding in with my bike box full with my laptop, lunch, snacks, and a large glass pyrex container full of cookies I baked. 📦 🍪 💻 🎒 But with careful ride in on the somewhat snowy and icy bike trail I made it in safely. I did make sure my basket was good and tight to the panier rack, and things bungeed down, and easy on the bumps.

Today will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 37 degrees at 1pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 18th. West wind 5 to 7 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 31 degrees. The record high of 63 was set in 1901. 12.5 inches of snow fell back in 1956.❄

Working back downtown again today. 📃 I wouldn’t want to miss the exchange cookies day this afternoon, 🍪 plus I like the

Solar noon 🌞 is at 11:50 am with sun having an altitude of 24.1° from the due south horizon (-46.6° vs. 6/21). The golden hour 🏅 starts at 3:37 pm with the sun in the southwest (231°). 📸 The sunset is in the west-southwest (239°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:23 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 24 seconds with dusk around 4:53 pm, which is 11 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent 🌒 Moon in the southwest (223°) at an altitude of 6° from the horizon, 230,431 miles away. 🚀 The best time to look at the stars is after 5:30 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 36 degrees. There will be a south-southwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 7 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 34 seconds over yesterday.

Big Red passed his inspection with no issues, 🔎🛻 the oil changed and tires rotated. Prices have gone up a bit in the shop, I think it was about $94 bucks for all three things but I should be good until next summer except should random things break or need repair before then. Makes me want to go back to changing my own oil, lol. 🛢 I want to get another year out of Big Red if at all possible, so I’ll feed it parts beyond engine or transmission tear-down type repairs. 👩‍🔧 Rust continues to be an issue but I’ve been painting it with red primer, and some point maybe in the spring I’ll cover with duplicate color match. 👨‍🎨 I haven’t put the hub caps back on, will do this weekend after I do a quick check of the torque of the wheel nuts, lest the shop mess that up. 🔧 Can’t happen twice, right?

Tonight will be mostly clear 🌃, with a low of 28 degrees at 3am. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 29th. South wind around 8 mph. In 2022, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 16 degrees. The record low of -8 occurred back in 1874.

Today in 1994, started construction begins on the Three Gorges Dam on the Yangtze river. The Three Gorges Dam has been the world’s largest power station in terms of installed capacity (22,500 MW) since 2012. In 2014, the dam generated 98.8 terawatt-hours (TWh) and had the world record, but was surpassed by the Itaipú Dam, which set the new world record in 2016, producing 103.1 TWh. 🏞 Also, today was a notable date in civil rights history, with the release of the Heart of Atlanta Motel, Inc. v. United States, 379 U.S. 241 (1964), a landmark United States Supreme Court case holding that the Commerce Clause gave the U.S. Congress power to force private businesses to abide by Title II of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits discrimination in public accommodations.

Mild and pretty nice for the weekend. 😀 Friday is going to be in the fifties. And Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 45. North wind around 6 mph. Sunday, more clouds push in especially late, with a high near 47. Typical average high for the weekend is 38 degrees.

Looking ahead, next Thursday is First Day of Winter ☃️ when the sun will be setting at 4:26 pm with dusk at 4:56 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 34 and 16 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 37 degrees. We hit a record high of 62 back in 2018.

Took The Skis Off

Twenty two years ago on this September 11th 🇺🇸

Hard to believe it was 22 years ago that I was a freshman in college at Hudson Valley Community College on that day with the bright blue skies, listening to Amy Goodman and seeing those terrorist attacks on television at my college statistics class before college adjourned for the day and I spent it just walking along High Point Road in Berne, looking up and noticing the skies without airplanes above.

Good morning! Rain showers and 69 degrees in Delmar. ☔ Calm wind. The dew point is 65 degrees. The skies will clear Wednesday around 11 pm.

Catching the earlier express bus 🚍 downtown so I walk 🚶 in the Plaza before work as it’s really not a particularly nice day. Kind of a dreary autumn day, though at least not so hot. Certainly not the crisp, clear day of 22 years ago. I don’t want to go back to those days with all trials and tribulations ahead of me as I started in college, 🎓 it’s kind of nice to be in the midlife even if things aren’t perfect every day. That was quite a time, when so much possibility ahead existed, when I was learning so much and changing so quickly. I was bad yesterday, didn’t get my steps in, 👣 but this morning I plan to do the stairs maybe twice at work, and walk the Plaza in an attempt to get in 10,000 steps for the day.

Twenty two years is a long time ⏳ even if in the grand scheme of things it’s not. 14 ½ years from now my mom was pointing out I will be 55 years old and if I’m still working for the state at that point I’ll have in close to 30 years and can collect my Tier 4 pension if I decide to do alternative things. 💵 Maybe move out west, have that off-grid homestead property I want. By then I’m hoping to have $1.5 million in assets put away though some I won’t be able to tap until 59 1/2 (IRA) but it’s still young enough that if I stay healthy and continue to improve my physical shape there is a lot of possibilities at that age. September 11th in 2001 seems like just yesterday but it was a long time ago now. 🏙

Today will have showers likely, with thunderstorms also possible after 1pm. Mostly cloudy 🌦, with a high of 71 degrees at 1pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 24th. Maximum dew point of 67 at 1pm. Calm wind becoming north 5 to 7 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 74 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1931.

Listening to Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning while doing my morning walk 🚶 around the Plaza. I’m actually surprised there is less of a police 👮 presence as there was in years past on the anniversary. I guess September 11th has been forgotten but then again it was more than a generation ago now – and I’m sure the threat analysis by terrorism center kept the color code green or blue. I remember that day so well, listening to the attacks live with Amy Goodman on Democracy Now, followed by that somewhat old lady troublemaker sounding Rezsin Adams who read 📖 from the Nation Magazine like she did every morning after Democracy Now on WRPI. It’s been decades now since she was kicked off the radio, 📻 and going on three years since her passing. It’s good I got to know her when I was at her house folding the Save the Pine Bush newsletter.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 52° from the due south horizon (-18.8° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 6:38 pm with the sun in the west (271°). 📸 The sunset is in the west (277°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:15 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 55 seconds with dusk around 7:41 pm, which is one minute and 46 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 The best time to look at the stars is after 8:17 pm. At sunset, look for rain 🌧 and temperatures around 70 degrees. The dew point will be 65 degrees. There will be a north breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 44 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over yesterday.

Yesterday, after a few hours of cussing including on Facebook 🤬 and playing around with controls on my bike and some internet research, I got the bicycle shifting smoothly again. ⚙ 🚲 I think what happened is a snagged the front derailleur cable on some bushes when I was riding at the back country at Thacher Park, plus over the past 750 miles or so of riding, cables have stretched. I think it’s good enough for now, though come the end of the year, I’ll take Blackie to the shop for a full tune up — the gears professionally adjusted for smooth shifting along with the wheels trued again. 🚵‍♀️ If I have continued problems with noisy operation or rough shifting, I will just take it back to Steiner Sports to get tuned up and maybe that cable replaced in the front. Sucks I have to put more money into the bike already, but in the grand scheme of things it’s not going to cost that much, even in these inflationary times. The gear adjusting is actually pretty simple to do, I can’t imagine they would charge a small fortune for 5 minutes on the bike stand to index the gears.

I also glued back together the lid on my mini food processor/chopped 👨‍🍳 and it’s working fine after shattering yesterday, but I got looking at getting a full-sized food processor with a dough blade and a big enough motor to knead dough. I would then “retire” my mini-food to my camping supplies, as it works well enough now glued together but I really want something for more power for at home, especially if want to use it to help automate the bread and dough making processor, make chickpea and red lentil flower, larger batches of hummus, etc. 🍞 🍌 I don’t mind kneading dough, but it sure would be convenient to dump the ingredients in, have things kneaded for me without a full bread machine. Looking at $60 model at Wally World, which is not a super high-end but should do that trick with enough power, assuming my dough aren’t so sticky and far more powerful then the 70 watt mini processor.  Truth be told I don’t need the mini-food processor for camping, but I sure like the sauces it makes, and how it mills the oatmeal perfectly for oatmeal-banana pancakes, and perfectly scrambled eggs. And it really has minimal current draw on the inverter.

I am a little worried about money, 🤑 but this week is a pay week and my credit card bill gets retired on Friday automatically, so that will help restore my credit limit. It’s funny but when you do the Autopay, it does it the date the bill is due, so it really covers the cost of summer vacation now. Plus I’ve had more costs with inflation, high food and gas prices ⛽ and a lot more summer travel over the past few months — to say nothing of getting more spices and kitchen supplies for doing more cooking. 🥘 But it’s good as eating healthier is an investment in my future. And it most of my concerns are short-term, if I have to move money around for a few days from a rainy day fund, it’s not the end of the world.

Tonight will be scattered showers, mainly before 7pm. Patchy fog after 2am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy ☁️, with a low of 61 degrees at 5am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around August 19th. Maximum dew point of 66 at 6pm. North wind around 6 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2022, we had light rain in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was humid. It got down to 65 degrees. The record low of 36 occurred back in 1875.

I think I might have a bladder infection 🚽 as I am going to the doctor’s this afternoon to get checked out. For a while I was chocking going to the bathroom at night and having to stop so much when traveling to just eating a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables with farm stand season underway, especially all those aciditic tomatoes and peaches, 🍑 🍅 but I was talking to my parents this weekend, and I think it’s best to get it checked out, especially before it could spread to my kidneys. Turns out it’s a simple test, and then antibotics if necessary. And then relief from pissing all of the time. It’s kind of bad that I can’t go anywhere these days without needing a pee break every hour or so, especially in the morning. Maybe I need to cut back on the coffee but I think I might also have an issue — and I’ve noticed some soreness since Friday.

Cool almost autumn like weekend ahead. 🍂 Maybe the North Country will have it’s first hints of autumn this weekend. I thought about heading north, but I think I’d rather wait for more color. It will be refreshing after all the heat and humidity of late. Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 72. Maximum dew point of 53 at 12pm. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 75. Maximum dew point of 58 at 12pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 75 degrees. 😀

This weekend I would like to head out of town. ⛺ Maybe Rennselearville State Forest or hammock camping at Cole Hill State Forest is an inexpensive option, I know mom wants me to go apple 🍏 picking with dad come Sunday. Not totally sure, the sunsets are so much earlier this time of year. If I want to head north, it’s best to take off Friday and just leave early that day to get north. That said, I think I’d rather wait until there is more color for a trip up north. 🍂 I wouldn’t mind a couple of quiet nights in the woods, even though the nights are much longer now, and some trail riding.

Looking ahead but not forward, next Monday is 7 PM Sunset 🌆 with dusk at 7:28 pm. On that day in 2022, we had rain and temperatures between 80 and 62 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 74 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1891.

Tree on Bank of Lake Ontario

June

The first official month of summer is upon us, with the Summer Solstice occurring on June 21st. It is the month when summer activities get fully underway, when the crops and gardens are planted, with primary and secondary schools recess for the summertime.

Creek

By the 21st of the month, we will have seen the longest day come and go for the year. Sunsets will occur as late as 8:37 PM, with it not being totally dark until after 9:10 PM most nights. The long summer nights will be a pleasure.

Camping

Folks will camp, they will fish, they will picnic and enjoy the beautiful weather. The wildflowers will cover the fields, first the daisies, then the black-eyed susans. We will explore the hay fields looking for Juneberries, those ever so small, but wonderfully tasting “wild strawberries”.

Black Eye Sussie

One of three months of wonderful summer weather, there will be much to enjoy as nature starts to mature into it’s full born of beauty of summer time.

May 12, 2021 Morning

Good morning! What day is it? Hump Day, of course. 🐪 We can leave out the Homesteady humor today, as I am pretending today is a virtual Friday, although it’s not because I still have to work on Thursday and Friday from Lake Pleasant at least for one more long weekend. Two weeks to Flower Moon 🌕 . By then it will warm up and we will have daisies and flower power. 🌼 Did you see the 8-14 day out look? Summer is coming! Partly cloudy and 46 degrees in Delmar, NY. ⛅ There is a west-northwest breeze at 15 mph. 🍃.

Today will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 63 degrees at 3pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 24th. Northwest wind 14 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. One more real chilly spring day with that stiff wind. Had a real strong gust blow through some time last night. No power or branches down right nearby who knows. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 54 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1881. There was a dusting of snow in 1996.❄

With that wind 🍃 I’m not expecting a real warm day but hopefully the clouds will push away. Windows are closed at home. Might open a few later for fresh air. A bit chilly but the sun helps when it is out from under the clouds and the sky is quite blue to the north.

I was thinking of working in the office 🏢 today, but now that the plumbing is fixed and I won’t have that distraction I have nothing to worry about and I can work from home. I’d rather do that as during downtime I can pack for the weekend. Next week at this time, I’ll be well on my way to downtown on the bus 🚍. The reduced bus schedule means an earlier departure for me. I sure hope they bring back the express bus stop and added services at rush hour. Back to in person work two days a week next week.

I’m thinking I will leave at 7 AM tomorrow and spend the day working from Lake Pleasant Thursday and Friday. ⛺ I’d like to camp at Mason Lake where I have cell service but I don’t think that’s open yet.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 65.6° from the due south horizon (-5.2° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 7:28 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (289°). 📸 The sunset is in the west-northwest (296°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:08 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 13 seconds with dusk around 8:39 pm, which is one minute and 4 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent 🌒 Moon in the west-northwest (294°) at an altitude of 5° from the horizon, 251,833 miles away. 🚀 The best time to look at the stars is after 9:20 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 56 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 32 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 10 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌤, with a low of 39 degrees at 5am. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 21st. Northwest wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm after midnight. In 2020, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 29 degrees. The record low of 30 occurred back in 2005.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. 😎 Saturday, a chance of showers after 2pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 71. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 46 at 7pm. Sunday, a chance of showers after 2pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 72. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 48 at 8pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 71 degrees.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Flower Moon 🌕 when the sun will be setting at 8:21 pm with dusk at 8:55 pm. On that day in 2020, we had hot weather mostly sunny skies and temperatures between 90 and 64 degrees. I think it might be that warm this year too. Typically, the high temperature is 74 degrees. We hit a record high of 94 back in 2010.

 Vromans Nose

April 21, 2021 Morning

Good morning! What day is it? A soon to be very wet Hump Day, of course. 🐪 ☔ 🥛 But maybe only briefly, looks like a fast moving front out front of snow out west, which will hit warm air and be rain here. I’m sure that dairy camel in Vermont won’t be happy. Five weeks to Flower Moon 🌕 . Put a flower in your hair. 🌼 Those days of daisies can’t be that far away. Rain and 39 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☔ There is a north breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 1 am. ☃️

Out for the morning walk with a rain coat on, ☔ because while it looks like the rain has passed everything is wet for now. But I think is more is coming, and while it might be dun for now, it will return. 🌧 But it at least will be done for the weekend, at least Saturday. 🐲 Listening to Puff the Magic Dragon, a song that might have been more appropriate for 420. That said, despite being perfectly legal, I didn’t smell much cannabis smoke yesterday. 🌾 I always thought restrictions on marijuana were awful silly and racist, mostly used to go after the colored and poor. A good agricultural crop, even though I’m too cheap to smoke. 🚬

“A dragon lives forever, but not so little boys
Painted wings and giant’s rings make way for other toys
One gray night it happened, Jackie Paper came no more
And Puff, that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar”
“His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain
Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane
Without his lifelong friend, Puff could not be brave
So Puff, that mighty dragon, sadly slipped into his cave”

A bit chilly for the morning walk 🚶🏻 in my t-shirt 👕 and vest and the air is damp with a taste of cattle and manure on it. 🐮. I’ve spent enough time in the Finger Lakes National Forest to know that taste well. That said when the sun ☀ peaks out its pretty nice. Going to miss my morning walks 🚶🏻 when I go back to working downtown. 🚍 But on nice days when I don’t have to dress up for clients 👨🏻‍🏫 I’ll walk down to the express bus stop 🚏, assuming they restore that service at some point. Then I can do my walks on the Emperor’s Plaza or in the Concourse. 🏢

This morning will rain, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds. 🌦 High of 51 degrees at 1pm. 10 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 31st. Maximum dew point of 44 at 12pm. 🏖️ Okay, maybe not beach weather. But don’t worry, the muggers are waiting with their dew points in the seventies. North wind 5 to 11 mph becoming south in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 52 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 1923. 0.6 inches of snow fell back in 1947.❄

Like so many Americans I wonder when life returns back to normal. 🏢 I watch the building traffic on the road in front of my apartment, keep checking the Twitter and bus schedule. 🚍 I have a meeting this afternoon and I wonder if I’ll get the news 📰 about when the building downtown reopens. I’m a bit anxious. Tomorrow I renew my cell phone plan 📱 and I suspect this will be the last month I’ll need the data plan but I’m fine with that as I like the walk down to the library. 📚 I’m sure it won’t be long before that’s fully re-opened. Kind of wanted to do a remote work trip to the Finger Lakes but I’m not sure if that’s going to happen before I return downtown.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Cinco de Mayo 🤠 when the sun will be setting at 8:00 pm with dusk at 8:31 pm. With the COVID mostly in the rear view mirror, it might be more typical Cinco de Mayo, although I’m not sure if all the watering holes will be open if they exist anymore. On that day in 2020, we had sunny and temperatures between 59 and 38 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 66 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1944.

Sunset last night at Long Pond

April 14, 2021 Morning

Good morning! What day is it? Hump Day, of course. 🐪 Six weeks to Flower Moon 🌻 . Partly sunny and 52 degrees in Delmar, NY. 🌞 Calm wind. The dew point is 42 degrees. Nice morning, although a bit groggy as I recover from COVID vaccine number 2 and because I had trouble sleeping again last night.

The morning walk was quite pleasant 🏃 with lots of sun, and nothing more then a t-shirt 👕 needed for my walk. Going to cloud up later but for now it’s pretty nice and I might drive down to the library to work this afternoon. 💻 I could work from home but on nice days like this I prefer to be outside where I can get some fresh air and relax. And maybe work on my tan some more.

The second COVID-shot went well yesterday, 💉 and I should be done and fully-vaccinated, with full-immunity in two weeks. My arm and shoulder blade 💪 feels like I have been doing a lot of shooting my 12-gauge shotgun, 🔫 or maybe like I got bit by a tick have Lyme disease in the shoulder 🐜 but I’m sure it’s just the vaccine kicking in. I am working from home, have no Zoom Meetings today, so nobody will know if I look or feel like a wreck today. Maybe less shooting this weekend if my arm is so sore. Or maybe I’ll have to use my .22 which doesn’t kick like a mule.

Today will have a slight chance of rain after 3pm. Mostly sunny to start out the day 🌞, with clouds pushing in later ☁️ and a high of 70 degrees at 4pm. 12 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 16th. The record high of 83 was set in 1968. 1.4 inches of snow fell back in 1950.❄

Last night was really nice for sitting out back ✨ although as the evening progressed, things got more cloudy. 🌽 The air had a sweet smell of corn silage, 👃 like they had just cut into some fresh silage that were feeding to cows at the farm down the way. 🐮 The smell really reminded me of summer, with the cows grazing on the grass at the Finger Lakes National Forest.

Some are calling for a nice spring weekend on tap at least in Albany-area. 😎 Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 54. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 60. More clouds up north, or maybe not depending on the model you look up. 🌦 Folks don’t really agree. 99% percent of forecasts are imaginary, up to random chance. Typical average high for the weekend is 59 degrees.

I am not sure if I will head north on Friday or Saturday, 🏕 a lot depends on the weather. I’d rather not be setting up camp in the pouring rain. 🌧 At least it looks like there won’t be much of a fire risk this weekend, so that’s good if I want to have a little campfire to stay warm 🔥 but I’ll also bring my heater too for warming my hands.

The first session of therapy went well, 💭 although mostly it was just an overview for intake purposes, understanding and discussing my issues. Listening to all the possible concerns and issues, legal and else-wise, I think I am glad I just have a little bit of anxiety, 😮 sometimes negative thought processes 😡 and a bit of pyromania when it comes to burn barrels 🛢 and the alike. Things could be a lot worse. 😩 All things that are curable with a little work on my part. I don’t want anything to get in my way of making more money, saving, investing and eventually owning my land. 🚜 One thing that kind of sucks that my next appointment is a week from 4 PM Friday, 📅 which means getting out of town to go camping might not be a reality, so it’s more important to plan to get out out of town this week if possible.
