January 7, 2017 Night

Good evening! Partly cloudy and 17 degrees in Delmar. There is a north-northwest breeze at 8 mph. Kind of a chilly night, but reasonable for the first week of January. Went out for my evening walk earlier and it was a bit chilly but I was bundled up so it wasn’t too bad. Lots of pretty moonlight  tonight, somewhat filtered through the clouds.

Didn’t do a lot today besides going out to breakfast with my parents and sister and niece for my mom’s birthday. I got her a gift card and then I went down to the library for a bit. Worked on some code for the blog and did some cleaning. Watched the evening news, listened to the podcast, went for a walk.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy, with a low of 11 degrees at 4am. Four degrees below normal. Northwest wind around 8 mph. In 2016, it got down to 12 degrees under mostly cloudy skies. The record low of -18 occurred back in 1878.

Waxing Gibbous Moon tonight with 68% illuminated. The moon will set around 4:38 am. The Full β€œWolf” Moon is on Thursday night with chance of showers then mostly cloudy skies expected and chance of rain then chance of rain/snow.

The sun will rise at 7:24 am with the first light at 6:53 am, which is 11 seconds earlier then yesterday. Most of the daylight we are gaining now is in the evening. Which is nice. Tonight will have 14 hours and 45 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 1 minutes and 15 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have scattered snow showers, mainly after 9am. The snow could be heavy at times. Mostly cloudy, with a high of 21 degrees at 1pm. Nine degrees below normal. Kind of like today but only breezer. Wind chill values as low as -1. West wind 8 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly cloudy skies and a high of 41 degrees. The record high of 60 was set in 2008. 8.3 inches of snow fell back in 1923.

With that kind of forecast it’s hard to make any big plans, but I will play it by ear and decide if it decent maybe to go hiking locally. If we ever get snow here in Delmar, I really want to ski this rail trail down along the Norman’s Kill. I’m sure it’s bound to happen before the end of winter or so I hope. And summer will come eventually.

In four weeks on February 4 the sun will be setting at 5:13 pm, which is 34 minutes later then tonight. In 2016 on that day, we had rain and temperatures between 57 and 36 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 32 and 15 degrees. The record high of 61 degrees was set back in 1991.

Looking ahead, Average High is 40 is in 8 weeks and April Fools Day is in 12 weeks.

Donald Trump’s Job Messaging is Good

Liberals in our country are quickly denouncing Donald Trump’s job creation efforts. They are quick to point out his flawed deals, the bullying and the chrony capitalism. All of those things are true, and while the news media may relish in pointing out his flaws – liberals are ignoring the fact that the media is talking about Donald Trump’s message – jobs.

People constantly tell pollsters that their top concern is jobs. Most people don’t really like their current jobs, after all it is work. Most people wish they had better jobs that were more fun, less stressful and paid more. If you make more money, there is more to spend on toys and your family, more money to put away for retirement and savings.

Repeating a message over and over again gets it in people’s heads. Most people don’t pay real close attention to politics, but they do get the subliminal messaging. Quite possibly in four years from now they’ll have forgotten the controversy of how Donald Trump has bullied and commanded businesses to his bidding and only remember one thing – that he has fought for jobs.

Every day Donald Trump is out there talking about jobs – and every day the media is following up on his message by debating whether or not he has created real jobs, he’s winning.

January 7, 2017 Morning

Good morning! Happy Saturday. Going to be a rather cloudy and cold January weekend. Right now, still definitely true under mostly cloudy skies and 14 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a northwest breeze at 5 mph. The skies will clear tomorrow around 3 pm.

Today will not be a very nice day. We will have a chance of snow, mainly after 4pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high of 23 degrees at 2pm. Eight degrees below normal. North wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

A year ago was much nicer, we had April like weather with partly sunny skies and a high of 40 degrees. The record high of 56 was set in 1915. 7.2 inches of snow fell back in 1994.
