July 12, 2016 Night

Good evening! Sitting out back listening to Get Together from the Youngbloods. That song was recorded a half century ago and became a hit during the summer of 1967. It was the summer of love, when Newark and Detroit went up in flames, starting tonight, 1967. Going to be much more hot and humid tomorrow.

Tomorrow I have my eye doctor appointment then I plan to wash the mud off of my truck and clean it up a bit inside. Then I’ll drop off at the mechanic to get the air conditioning checked and have the transmission and transfer case fluid changed. I’m also going to top off the brake fluid which isn’t low but could be a little closer to the max line. I checked the brakes and they should be good for vacation and beyond. I try to pretty gentle on my brakes. They may go another year or more before needing replacement.

Work continues to be crazy, but if I can make it less than two weeks, I’ll be spending my days soaking in the rays, poolside and enjoying nice long evenings in the Finger Lakes. I can’t wait.

July 12, 2016 Evening

Good evening! Partly sunny and 90 degrees in Albany, NY. There is a south breeze at 7 mph. The dew point is 62 degrees. With the low humidity, the weather is quite pleasant. In contrast, tomorrow through Friday will be quite oppressive. Enjoy this evening while you still can.

Tonight will be partly cloudy, with a low of 65 degrees at 5am. Three degrees above normal. South wind around 8 mph. Maximum dew point of 64 at 6am. The record low of 45 occurred back in 1939. A hot and oppressive day is on tap tomorrow.

I got stuck late at work and just barely missed the 5:25 bus home because it was running early. If I had believed my phone, I could have just gone to the park and finished up an email rather than wait for the bus. Oh, well.

July 12, 2016 8 AM Update

With fog starting to burn off, it’s now partly cloudyΒ and 65 degrees in Albany, NY. Calm wind. Some fog heading into Β the city. The dew point is Β starting to climb a bit to 57 degrees.

Today will be mostly sunny, with a high of 88 degrees at 3pm. Six degrees above normal. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 8 mph in the morning. Maximum dew point of 61 at 4pm. Tonight will be partly cloudy, with a low of 67 degrees at 5am. Five degrees above normal. South wind around 7 mph. Maximum dew point of 64 at 6am. The record low of 45 occurred back in 1939. The dew point will climb through the night as we head towards Wednesday’s oppressive weather.

We have someΒ muggy weather coming up.Β Wednesday 10am – Friday 3pm.Β Maximum temperature will beΒ 91 degrees, a heat index reaching 96, and a maximum dew point of 72.Β Monday 7pm – Monday 9pm.Β Maximum temperature will beΒ 83 degrees, a heat index reaching 85, and a maximum dew point of 65.

On this day in 1967, the Newark Riots begin with over six days of rioting, looting, and destruction leaving 26 dead. We really are fortunate that despite living troubled times, there has been relatively little rioting in our cities.

There is Β 1 monthΒ until First Day of Sunset Before 8 PM in Albany when the sun will be setting at 7:59 pm with dusk at 8:30 pm.

So tomorrow I get my eyes checked and Thursday I get the air conditioning fixed on my truck and the transmission and transfer case fluid changed. Important things before vacation. Also going to wash my truck and buy some fresh brake fluid, so I can top that off. The other fluids are fine.

This weekend it’s off to the Mine Kill State Park, assuming that the weather is reasonably nice. Get fresh vegetables at the Schoharie farm stands and camp on Saturday. With recharged air conditioning, the truck should be frigid.
