Utilities Wrong Again About Pollution Safeguard Costs

Groundhog Days | Center for American Progress.

In a free-market economy with competitive markets, industry can usually find cheaper solutions if they are pressured to try. This is why we need effective government regulation of things like automakers and electricity generating plants -- not because we are against affordable cars or inexpensive electricity -- but because we need to work to continue to reduce air pollution in our highly urbanized areas.

The Upcoming Weekend

Might be in the 50s next weekend. That is a little bit above average, although not super-above average. But at some point, we need warmer weather to pull up the average. Looks like Saturday may be rainy at least early, but Sunday should be sunny and warm.

weekendI will probably be on-call next weekend for work, probably so I will not head out camping or go too far from town, but would still like to spend a lot of time outdoors hiking or exploring. Might have enough snow left to do some snowshoeing or skiing — although hopefully this will be the last week where we have snow in the lower elevations.

Garnet Lake

Hopefully by the weekend, I will have my solar panel for camping and CB radio, so I can start working on building the storage/mounting box for the solar panel — and start running wires for the radio and solar controller in my truck. Some of the parts may be delayed, and I still have to purchase some small little things like fuses and crimp-on ends locally, but I should be able to get moving on things by the weekend.

Looks like we might finally get some great weather this weekend to enjoy some of the remaining snow in the mountains and be able to do stuff outdoors.

Drinking lots of coffee on this Monday. I don't know how I could survive a day without the sound of a percolator doing it's magic. At one point I used a coffee press, but I still think a I prefer percolator coffee.

The U.S. Cities Where the Poor Are Most Segregated From Everyone Else

The U.S. Cities Where the Poor Are Most Segregated From Everyone Else – Richard Florida – The Atlantic Cities.

It's always remarkable how in Albany, you can travel only 2 miles and go from a neighborhood that is over 99% white to majority African American.

Moreover, simply living in the suburbs just past city limits, you will pay much lower taxes, get vastly better government services, and have a very safe neighborhood to live in.

Monday Comes Back Around

Good Morning! Happy Monday. Another β€œspring” morning with the temperatures in the upper teens. With the bright March sun, it seems much warmer then it really is. Enjoy the winter before it turns to balmy hot summer weather, which is bound to happen any day now. As we all know, it is typical to have extremely below average weather in Albany in spring, until we have extremely above average weather. 80 degrees in March or early April is not fun.
