Outside of Plattsburgh in the flat lands of the Champlain Valley, corn and soy feed the big dairies. While the city continues to sprawl outwards, there is still a lot of farming going on around it. Further out as you get into the hills and uplands of the Northern Adirondacks forest lands prevail.
Chittening Pond is a small pond in the highlands outside of Bridgewater along Route 20. While the valleys around here are quite flat and lower elevation, this state land is made up of many little hills.
This physical map shows the terrian around Speculator in Central Hamilton County including Lake Algonquin, Lake Pleasant, Elm Lake and part of Piseco Lake.
I was curious what this area looked like, especially what is now the closed MOSA Landfill back in 1956 before the dump was constructed in the old gravel pit along the Lasher Creek. Also check out Spraker's Hill Road before the NY 162 Bypass and bridge over Flat Creek was constructed.
