The Friday before Memorial Day Weekend πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

And I’m so not rushing around to make sure I have everything packed so I can be eaten alive by the black flies while I struggle to find cell service so I can work. Or rolling out of Mayfield watching traffic queue three miles in the distance as people crawl towards Northville and I’m openly wondering if all the good campsites are taken. I’m sure there is a lot of summer and autumn left.

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday before Memorial Day Weekend! πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Sunny and 42 degrees in Delmar, NY. 🌞 Calm wind. An absolutely beautiful morning, although a bit cool for the morning walk.

These days with the early sunrise πŸŒ… I find it difficult to sleep much past five o’clock which is bad for the sleep 😴 as it’s also hard to get to bed before 9:30 or so after the evening walk 🚢. But I’m moving forward and I’m thinking eggs, tofu spinach and feta for breakfast this morning. 🍳 I’ve really been overdoing the sugar lately and eggs have an amazing staying power for the full day. πŸ’ͺ

Today will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 72 degrees at 5pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 19th. Calm wind becoming north 5 to 7 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 74 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 2010. There was a dusting of snow in 1953.❄

Should be a pretty nice day. ☺ Yesterday wasn’t half bad, walked 11 Β½ miles had a good dinner with salmon, peppers, tomatoes and a lemon juice πŸ‹ topping. Work was busy but it’s exciting getting that new Census Housing Data for sure. πŸ–₯ That said, I had most depressing project to review yesterday πŸ“ but not everything can always be happy and fun when you are paid to review it.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 68.5Β° from the due south horizon (-2.3Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 7:40 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (293Β°). πŸ“Έ

Going to catch the earlier express bus 🚏🚌 in this morning so I can bring the Lupine Festival πŸ¦‹ display to my office 🏒 and hopefully bring it back to Lynne this afternoon. Then do some more walking 🚢 before getting down to work for the day. As I won’t be leaving right from work today to the Adirondacks I figure I won’t be guilty of such clock πŸ•’ watching today but it should still go by quickly as I expect to be quite busy.

The sunset is in the west-northwest (300Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:22 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 20 seconds with dusk around 8:54 pm, which is 55 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter πŸŒ“ Moon in the southwest (234Β°) at an altitude of 52Β° from the horizon, 251,804 miles away. πŸš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:38 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies πŸŒ„ and temperatures around 65 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 15 hours of daytime, an increase of one minute and 37 seconds over yesterday.

After work tonight I want to go to the library πŸ“š and get a book to read for the holiday weekend then run to Walmart after 8 pm after they restocked followed by Market32 for anything they don’t have. πŸ«‘πŸŽπŸŒΆοΈπŸ₯š Want to make sure to have lots of fresh fruits and vegetables for camping πŸ•.

Tonight will be mostly clear πŸŒƒ, with a low of 45 degrees at 5am. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 7th. Light and variable wind. In 2022, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It became humid as the night progressed. It got down to 63 degrees. The record low of 30 occurred back in 1969.

The plan for tomorrow 🚲 is to work on the bicycle in the morning πŸ’» along with any other work that comes in tonight into the morning then go out and primatively hammock camp β›Ί in the back country as simply as possible doing all my cooking 🍳 over a fire with hiking 🚢, reading and nature observation during the day. Use a candle πŸ•― and the fire πŸ”₯ for light at night πŸŒƒ.

Tomorrow will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 79 degrees at 5pm. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 12th. Calm wind. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 77 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1914.

Looking ahead to Sunday, sunny, with a high near 85. β˜€ Calm wind becoming west around 6 mph in the afternoon. Maximum dew point of 55 at 8pm. That will feel like summer. Typical average high for the weekend is 74 degrees.

And Memorial Day πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ will be sunny β˜€ with a high of 87 degrees as the heat wave strengthens heading into the work week, even if Monday is a holiday. I’m sure it will be a long and busy work week next week, though maybe not so bad as Tuesday is the Assembly Majority picnic and Thursday is a get away day. Then that final hellish week and they will be gone. And then the recovery weekend for me spent with dad at the Gas Up. 🚜

The truth is I’m more focused on the following weekend, June 3-4 for more of a get out of town adventure β›ΊπŸ›ΆπŸŒ³πŸŒ² just because I know the woods will be quieter that weekend, the black flies less bad 🐜, water warmer, less traffic and likely less work for me. All a win – win assuming the warm weather doesn’t crap out by then. And of course, Juneteenth long weekend extended by a few extra days at the Potholers. πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈ

Looking ahead, there are 7 weeks until National Nude Day πŸ‘± when the sun will be setting at 8:33 pm with dusk at 9:06 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 85 and 65 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 84 degrees. We hit a record high of 99 back in 1995.

Brief Rainshower On A Hot Day

Happy Lupine Festival Day! πŸ¦‹

Out walking this morning right at six o’clock and then there are more Committee Agendas and legislation to review for work while eating breakfast and sipping coffee out back before tabling a good portion of the day the Lupine Festival for Save the Pine Bush. Going to try to find time to walk 8 miles today in between the rain drops, though I doubt I’ll melt.

Good morning! Happy Saturday. Finally the weekend! But the work never stops until some time after June 10th or so I tell myself. Cloudy and 54 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ There is a south-southeast breeze at 8 mph. πŸƒ. Not so cold this morning for the walk 🚢. The dew point is 49 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 3 am.

I was up pretty early this morning πŸŒ… but then again this time of year the sun rise is early. Stumbled around a bit but now I’m going again and out walking 🚢. I figured walk first then breakfast 🍳 which will be eggs, a shit ton of spinach along with orange and red peppers and onions and probably tomatoes πŸ… as you can’t forget them.

Today will have showers likely, mainly after 5pm. Cloudy 🌦, with a high of 69 degrees at 1pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 9th. Maximum dew point of 59 at 6pm. South wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Okay, New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 79 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1962.

So yes a busy Saturday ahead. πŸ˜ƒ Lots of things to do. One thing I can πŸ₯« check off my list β˜‘ is I ended up grocery shopping πŸ›’ last night rather than Sunday. I wanted to get some more apples 🍏 and I noticed the store was freshly stocked so I figured get it done. That way I’ll be down by the end of the week next week and can go shopping again if I decide to head out of town to camp β›Ί. I don’t know though with the best campsites likely taken and the black flies. 🐜 Plus I told John whose wife is sick this weekend I would probably come up next weekend. Still waiting on parts for my bicycle 🚲, I don’t see myself wrenching it this weekend.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 67.3Β° from the due south horizon (-3.5Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 7:35 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (292Β°). πŸ“Έ

I got cranberry beans soaking in the refrigerator today, 🍲I plan to cook them either tonight or tomorrow to add to meals throughout the week. Salmon with rice, kale, onions and peppers for dinner tonight. 🐠

The sunset is in the west-northwest (299Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:16 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 17 seconds with dusk around 8:48 pm, which is one minute later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent πŸŒ’ Moon in the west-northwest (296Β°) at an altitude of 10Β° from the horizon, 245,175 miles away. πŸš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:30 pm. At sunset, look for rain 🌧 and temperatures around 65 degrees. The dew point will be 60 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 50 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 53 seconds over yesterday.

Last night twice the express bus 🚍had to pull over on the shoulder of the road because the battery box door kept opening up. Both on Interstate 787 and the Delmar bypass. Poor driver had to get out on the shoulder with racing traffic going by and try to secure it. The second time, a CDTA supervisor in his personal vehicle saw the breakdown and stopped by. One of the passengers joked with only three passengers he could have just given us a ride home 🏑. Friday usually is very light on the bus, a lot of people work from home or like me often head out of town.

I think the Voorheesville bus hasn’t rebuilt it’s ridership enough, I bet come mid June it will be back to starting and ending at the Park and Ride. 🚏 It’s tough in the era of hybrid work and work from home. I’m okay with that, as I like the walk especially on non session days and it will be more timely ⌚ as the driver for the 7:30 run will dead head back and do the 8:30 run downtown and the same with me 4 pm and 5 pm route. While drivers can always hit traffic on Southern Boulevard or 787, with that dead head the layover is long enough to avoid most delays unlike running a city route before. ☺

Tonight will have showers, mainly before 2am. 🌧 Low of 50 degrees at 5am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 19th. South wind around 7 mph becoming west after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. In 2022, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It became sticky as the night progressed. It got down to 65 degrees. The record low of 32 occurred back in 1949.

I keep watching as the forecast for Memorial Day Weekend πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ gets warmer and sunnier but I’m afraid I’ll have to work. Maybe my best plan remains to hammock camp β›Ί a night or two quite primatively locally. I’ll figure it out as those days get closer. I’m just really hoping for a nice Juneteenth Weekend at the Potholers and House Pond Campsite. It could rain though. Summer is not done yet! Though only 105 days remain until the Labor Day Weekend.

One month πŸ“… from now will be Primary Day πŸ—³οΈ when the sun will be setting at 8:38 pm with dusk at 9:11 pm. I’m not sure whose on the ballot locally but I could check at the county board of elections website. I will want to Early Vote because they moved my Election Day site to the Town Park which isn’t convenient for me when I’m busy on Election Day.

 Towards Utsayathana

Shift it down into overdrive βš™

It’s now just coasting to the weekend, or so I tell myself. The hill has been climbed, now it’s just coasting to five o’clock. And next weekend is Memorial Day Weekend, which the black flies want you to know is a three day weekend.

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Mostly sunny and 48 degrees β˜€ in Delmar for the morning walk. There is a south breeze at 11 mph. πŸƒ.

I hear that summer is coming πŸ– though lately there has been very little evidence of that lately. That said, things may get warmer for the Memorial Day Weekend though not by much. When summer finally arrives though I’m betting it will get hot.

I was thinking πŸ’ about eggs this morning πŸ₯š as I had too many carbs yesterday but I think with time limitations πŸ₯£ and because I want eggs tomorrow I’m going to reheat the remaining barley and quinoa I have cooked in the refrigerator and serve with blackberries and cherries πŸ’ this morning. πŸ₯£ May add a little honey 🍯 just because otherwise the quiona is too bitter. Then some carrots πŸ₯•. Tomorrow eggs 🍳 I’m thinking. I’ll make sure to limit carbs at lunch and dinner. Maybe I’ll crack open that other can of mackerel 🐠 or tuna with dinner and serve with kale to boost my omega 3 levels and vitamin absorption. Also need to use up more of the peppers πŸ«‘πŸŒΆοΈ in the refrigerator they’re getting dried out a bit. I do make frozen spinach and especially kale πŸ₯— too big of a portion of my diet but it’s easy and cheap source of healthy fiber though I do need to mix it up more. Overdoing kale is better than overdosing on sugars and fats I tell myself.

Today will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 72 degrees at 4pm. Typical for today. Maximum dew point of 48 at 12pm. South wind 11 to 17 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 63 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1989. There was a dusting of snow in 1976.❄

Yesterday was busy and I was tired 😴 by the end of the day but I still got 9.2 miles in by the end of the day. Caught the express bus 🚍 both ways, made up and eat too much brown rice 🍚 and red lentils, as its super dense but tried to make up for it by having lots of kale, tomato πŸ… and onions with the small slice of chicken πŸ” breast I had for dinner. I’ll cut back further on the carbs today. It’s about averages.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 67.1Β° from the due south horizon (-3.7Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 7:34 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (292Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west-northwest (298Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:15 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 17 seconds with dusk around 8:47 pm, which is one minute and one second later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡

The best time to look at the stars is after 9:29 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies πŸŒ„ and temperatures around 65 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 14 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 48 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 57 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy πŸŒ₯, with a low of 51 degrees at 2am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 24th. Maximum dew point of 50 at 6am. South wind 11 to 14 mph. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 46 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 2002.

I would like to walk 🚢 ten miles today but it’s going to be difficult as I have to probably do work this evening and pick up the Save the Pine Bush display from Lynne Jackson in the city after work. πŸ—’ Those committee agendas keep coming later and later into the weekend. 🀯 It’s fine, I need the comp time for summer but still it will lead to a very busy evening.

Tomorrow will have showers likely, mainly after 3pm. Cloudy 🌦, with a high of 66 degrees at 12pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 1st. Maximum dew point of 57 at 2pm. South wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. Not the nicest day possible for the Lupine Festival πŸ¦‹ but not a total washout. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 79 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1962.

Looking ahead to Sunday, mostly sunny, β˜€ with a high near 73. Northwest wind around 11 mph. Maximum dew point of 50 at 8am. Typical average high for the weekend is 73 degrees. That should be a nicer day. Looking at minimum at Bennett Hill before seeing the folks, might also do an early morning hike to Five Rivers 🐦 – and I mean early like 5 AM – and maybe an evening hike up Blodgett Hill then get groceries for the week at Wally World.πŸ›’

I wasn’t going to head out of town for the holiday weekend β›Ί but with the warming trend and potentially sunny hot weather, I could be persuaded elsewise. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ Hammock Camping is more likely but I could consider the Spectulator area especially if I have to spend part of the week remote working. πŸ’» That said I don’t like the black flies and summer isn’t that far away. I’d still almost prefer though to wait for the following week when work is less and the woods is quieter. 🌲🌲But sometimes plans change.

I’m back to thinking πŸ’ about the Finger Lakes National Forest for summer vacation πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈ mostly because I’m thinking of all the trails and flat land up on the hump between the lakes for bicycle 🚲 riding. Plus lots of opportunities to fish 🎣 and the ease of setting up camp β›Ί for the week and nearby groceries at Watkins Glen. 🍏 It was fun paddling Seneca Lake on calmer days. πŸ›Ά And doing the Black River Valley to camp and hunt come the autumn rather than West Virginia.

One month πŸ“… from now the Average High is 80 when the sun will be setting at 8:37 pm with dusk at 9:11 pm. Basically almost summer at that point, I should spend it at the House Pond campsite. β›Ί

Cloudy Skies Over Cedar River Flow

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. 🀯

I’ve been doing this long enough that I know when give it a little gas and ease off the clutch I’ll be moving forward and before long be pulling that lever back into second and it will be Friday before you know it. That said I’m primarily thinking about Juneteenth weekend spent at the House Pond campsite swimming hole.

Sunny and 42 degrees in Delmar, NY. 🌞 Calm wind. I don’t know it feels cold but I’m always cold these days now that I’ve lost some body fat with the lower R value. But it’s also good because fat in the body organs like your heart ♥ muscle πŸ’ͺ is so bad. It can’t be that cold intolerant though as Saturday night slept in hammock with just a little blanket.

Regardless of what I might think of the weekend that was, it was a productive one πŸ”§. The tire is back on the truck, my pantry stocked, walked twelve miles yesterday including five miles on Cole Hill State Forest and seven miles out to Bender Mellon Preserve. Got the work that needed to be done πŸ’» from home. Hammock camped.

Today will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 73 degrees at 4pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 20th. Light southwest wind becoming west 8 to 13 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, which became partly cloudy by afternoon. It was humid. The high last year was 82 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1900.

I made the best tasting whole wheat pasta salad πŸ₯— yesterday with the kale and mackerel. Much more filling then traditional pasta salad with the empty carbohydrates and fat of white pasta and mayonnaise. Mackerel is high in omega 3 fats that more than enough replaces the need for mayonnaise and helps with the absorption of fat soluble vitamins and minerals, including those in the fiber and vitamin rich kale. I know eating kale is a yuppie thing but it’s remarkably nutritious and tasty. Plus I can mock Keto math that subtracts fiber from carbs but it’s impossible to question the benefits of fiber.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 66.2° from the due south horizon (-4.6° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.6 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 7:30 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (290°). πŸ“Έ

Not sure how late I’ll be stuck in the office 🏒 this week, but it should be a good week weather wise. β˜€ Cool on Wednesday. Tomorrow I need to pick up my suit jackets at the dry cleaning before work, dry cleaning has gotten expensive these days. πŸ•΄οΈ Leave my truck at the Delaware park and ride. Maybe after work stop at Hannaford and pick up a few missing groceries – so far no fat vanilla yogurt is the only thing on that list πŸ“ƒ and that is more of a luxury then a necessity. I like a few times a week to drizzle yogurt on frozen fruit as a sugary treat after the evening walk, especially on hot days. 🚢 But I know the added sugar of the vanilla yogurt is rather bad even if I use it sparingly and a container typically last me a month before it’s used up and put in the garbage to be burnt. Lol.

The sunset is in the west-northwest (297°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:11 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 14 seconds with dusk around 8:42 pm, which is one minute and 3 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:24 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies πŸŒ„ and temperatures around 65 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 40 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 5 seconds over yesterday.

I am hoping to get home early enough, that I have time to walk down at the park. πŸƒ It gets difficult this time of year, but maybe I’ll get some steps in at lunch time. I would like to have in at least 9 miles by the end of the day. Need to get to the bank 🏦 so I can have cash to pick up my suit jackets tomorrow. πŸ•΄οΈ

Tonight will be partly cloudy πŸŒƒ , with a low of 50 degrees at 6am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 20th. West wind 7 to 10 mph becoming southwest after midnight. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies. It was humid. It got down to 57 degrees. The record low of 33 occurred back in 1980.

Showers this weekend β˜”. But not a washout. Payback for the last two really nice weekends. Saturday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 72. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Maximum dew point of 48 at 8pm. Might not be perfect πŸ‘Œ for the Lupine Festival πŸ¦‹ but okay. Sunday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 71. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Maximum dew point of 52 at 8pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 73 degrees.

Looking ahead, there are 3 weeks until 8:30 PM Sunset ️⛱️ when the sun will be setting at 8:30 pm with dusk at 9:03 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 77 and 47 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 77 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1925.
