The rain let up for the morning walk โ˜”

I really didn’t think I would get out walking today outside but it turned out to just be a drizzle if that. Not sure if it will be this light all day but probably because when they warn of heavy rain it always gets scared off and leaves two drops of rain.

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Rain drops ๐Ÿ’ง and cloudy and 67 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Calm wind. The dew point is 66 degrees. The rain will stop tonight and skies will clear tomorrow around 5 am. Might be a good day to take delivery of Blackie, the name I gave my new mountain bike if it’s ready.

This morning out walking ๐Ÿšถ. I’m happy about that. The black coffee โ˜• – already had a half cup and breakfast will be original cream of wheat with frozen blueberries and a good glop of plain non fat Greek yogurt mixed in for protein and taste. ๐Ÿฅฃ At first I struggled to adopt the Greek yogurt craze ๐Ÿคช, as it’s rather tart and when I started eating healthy I zeroed in on the calories and saturated fats in dairy but I came around getting to like the somewhat bitter taste, noting the excellent ratio of protein to calories and how it’s a way to support dairy ๐Ÿฎ without as much of the unhealthy crap as cheese ๐Ÿง€ and ice cream ๐Ÿฆ.

Today will rain and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. ๐ŸŒง High of 75 degrees at 5pm. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 4th. Maximum dew point of 69 at 10am. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ Light north wind becoming northwest 5 to 10 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 81 degrees. The record high of 100 was set in 1936.

I am hoping it stays dry enough to walk this evening ๐Ÿ‘ฃ but realistically I see the forecast. I will do the best I can do at lunch time, walking in the Concourse or maybe in the walkway. But it might be a good evening to continue reading either the Boggleheads Guide to Investing or Beginner’s Guide to D3.js. I am trying to learn more about D3.js. ๐Ÿ“š I took a FreeCodeCamp class on D3.js last fall but I’ve never used it but it’s a powerful tool for creating visualizations in Javascript. I also need to retire the debt on my credit card today, ๐Ÿ’ณ as I need more room under my credit limit so I can actually purchase the bike this week. ๐Ÿšต‍โ™€๏ธ Also want to get my FreeCreditReport and make sure all my credit accounts are still locked and clear, like they should be — and super boring.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:01 pm with sun having an altitude of 69.6° from the due south horizon (-1.2° vs. 6/21). The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:53 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (295°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (302°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:35 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 24 seconds with dusk around 9:08 pm, which is 27 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:53 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 71 degrees. The dew point will be 65 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 10 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 11 seconds over yesterday.

Last night I got reading ๐Ÿ“– the Boggleheads Guide to Investing. Truth be told not much I didn’t already know but it’s good to expand your knowledge. I’ve done a lot of things right though I fully admit in some cases I leave money ๐Ÿ’ต on the table. Automatic investing with low cost index funds remains key to sustainable wealth growth. I probably could live without my big jacked up truck ๐Ÿ›ป or my new mountain bike ๐Ÿšต or my guns I don’t use enough ๐Ÿ”ซ but I also don’t take flamboyant vacations in fancy hotels, I don’t have internet, cable or air conditioning at my run down apartment in the city and I use public transport to get work. I’m really putting away a good chunk of money for retirement – federal maximums for my Roth IRA, Deferred Comp and plus I got my pension and also buy $415 weekly of a variety of index and bond funds. The hell of it is my credit score is complete crap, below 800, because I have never borrowed money outside of my credit card — no student or auto loans ever, and I refused to allow the bank to set a credit limit above $5,000 — which means my credit utilization is relatively high at 10-15% each month. ๐Ÿ’ณ But hopefully if I ever need to use credit to buy land or something else, I can put the majority down in cash, so I don’t get bit through the nose ๐Ÿฝ for refusing to use credit through the years.

And reading this book, truth is though that I feel more then a little guilty spending so much money on a fancy new bike, though my old clunker would still be that even if I did finish the rebuild project. ๐Ÿšฒ I’m hoping to get a lot of use out of the bicycle to sure — already been thinking about some remote-country hammock camping, only reachable by bicycle trail come August. ๐Ÿคฏ Spent some time pondering what to do with my old bicycle — I’ll possibly continue the rebuild as I now have the back wheel back together, but I honestly don’t want to spend much more time or money on parts that now that I will soon have the Blackie. ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿ”ง I think it’s in too rough of shape to be traded in with the fork a little rough and still some of the parts not reinstalled, but I’m kind of hoping that Albany Bicycle Rescue will take it as a donation. I have too much clutter, but I’d rather it get more use then take it to a scrap yard. ๐Ÿ‡ I probably eat some grapes and chickpeas for stress eating last night, but I did follow it by a walk, ๐Ÿ‘ฃ as the rain let up last night. Overall, despite eating a large dinner — I mostly eat too much fruit and vegetables, and some rather unhealthy small portion of chicken and rice, I did still walk 9 1/2 miles yesterday and plan to do hopefully 10 miles today, and 40 flights of stairs. I do worry about getting obese ๐Ÿคฐ though in the future should I fall off my rocker.

Tonight will rain likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 8pm, then a chance of rain and thunderstorm then a chance of of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 62 degrees at 6am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around July 9th. Maximum dew point of 67 at 6pm. Northwest wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 55 degrees. The record low of 48 occurred back in 1986.

On this day in 1890, Wyoming is admitted to the United States as the 44th US State. ๐Ÿค Many liberals regard that as a mistake, although it has some beautiful country out in Yellowstone and lots of oil and coal. ๐Ÿ›ข๏ธAnd in 1962, Telstar, the world’s first communication satellite is launched.๐Ÿ“ก It would be destroyed within a year or so due to above ground nuclear testing. People think it was radiation and human sickness ๐Ÿคฎ that lead to the above ground test ban ๐Ÿ’ฃ when it was really concerns about damage to military satellites. ๐Ÿ›ฐ

A very typical summer weekend ahead. Hot and humid, thunderstorm โ›ˆ threat all weekend. Saturday, a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 84. Chance of precipitation is 50%. โ˜€ Maximum dew point of 70 at 11am. Sunday, a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 85. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Maximum dew point of 70 at 11am. Typical average high for the weekend is 84 degrees.

Looks like a decent weekend. โ›บ I’m still thinking about heading out to Schoharie this weekend for riding the Catskill Scenic Trail, swimming ๐ŸŠ, the auto show at NY Power Authority. ๐Ÿš™ I might take off Monday if it’s nice. I kind of don’t like driving back to Betty Brook due to the tight campsite and rough roads with my big jacked up truck but I’m thinking Sunday night there is a good chance I could get the campsite either on West Kill Road or Cole Hollow. The prior would mean you could get an early start, head down to Stamford and Monday morning and do the leg of the trail from Stamford down to Bloomville. ๐Ÿšฒ Monday’s are usually easier to get off plus then it’s a four day week the next two weeks as I’m leaving for vacation on a Friday. Then the week after vacation is my dentist appointment ๐Ÿฆท not this week as I originally thought.

A lot of my weekend plans depends on when I take delivery of Blackie, ๐Ÿšฒ and when I get the kick stand, rack and crate on it. I decided I’ll add yellow reflective DOT tape to the rear and sides of the black crate and the rack to improve visibility when riding on the road. I found my old front and back lights, though I’m missing the mount for the rear one or more like I think it broke when I took it off the old bike a few weeks back when I was restoring it. Supposedly from the online inventory the bike store has the kick stand, the MIK rack and MIK connector plate as I’d like to have that all installed before I head out for the weekend, along with the bicycle registered and licensed with the town, photos and other information sent to my insurer.

Looking ahead, there are 6 weeks until World Mosquito Day ๐Ÿž when the sun will be setting at 7:50 pm with dusk at 8:18 pm. My gawd have they been bad at times lately in the woods, especially for the evening walk at Elm Ave Town Park. On that day in 2022, we had hot and muggy weather ๐Ÿ˜ฐ , partly sunny and temperatures between 88 and 70 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 82 degrees. The mosquitoes loved that. We hit a record high of 98 back in 1916.

February 24, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Partly cloudy and 31 degrees at the Elm Ave Park and Ride. โ›… Breezy, ๏ธ22 mph breeze from the northwest ๐ŸŒฌ with gusts up to 32 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. The current wind chill is 18. There are 3 inches of ice and snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at Sunday around vyv v vga11 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Once again I chickened ๐Ÿฅ out and decided to go in early and walk the Concourse with the muzzle on. ๐Ÿ˜ท I did walk down to the Park and Ride and am trying to walk faster so hopefully I can avoid walking outside in the evening. It actually wasn’t too bad down to the Park and but when I first got up boy oh boy ๐Ÿง’ was that wind roaring. Ideally I would have my steps before the end of the work day so I can do them inside but I don’t know if that’s possible. ๐Ÿ‘ฃ I’m thinking of walking down to the library ๐Ÿ“š in the evening if necessary to complete today’s walk program.

Today will be partly sunny, with a temperature falling to around 21 by 5pm. โ˜€ ๐Ÿ’จ Blustery, with a northwest wind 18 to 24 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 45 degrees. The record high of 74 was set in 2017. 8.0 inches of snow fell back in 1962. โ„

Amazing how fast the fruits ๐Ÿ ๐ŸŠ๐ŸŒ have disappeared from my office ๐Ÿข. Same thing with the frozen ones at home. I don’t know if I’ve actually lost any weight, my scale at home is broke but I feel a lot more full and eat less at dinner which saves money ๐Ÿ’ต and feel less light headed at times.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:10 pm with sun having an altitude of 37.9ยฐ from the due south horizon (-33ยฐ vs. 6/21). Today will have 11 hours and 2 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 47 seconds over yesterday.

Exploring the Concourse ๐Ÿข I’ve discovered new places to walk ๐Ÿšถ like the South Swan Tunnel which has an interesting set of photographs ๐Ÿ–ผ of the Empire State Plaza construction ๐Ÿšง and other colorful locations in New York State. I’ve also done the Well of the LOB, Capitol Building and under the Egg. I should think about the forth and fifth floor of the Capitol, if memory serves me right there is an interesting mix of tunnels, stairs and walkways up there. Rainy but mild days I could do the walkway to the Knickerbocker Arena.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 5 degrees at 4am. 15 degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around -4 at 5am; North wind 7 to 16 mph. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 26 degrees. The record low of -14 occurred back in 1914.

Tomorrow will have a chance of snow showers, mainly after noon. Cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 25 degrees at 3pm. 14 degrees below normal. North wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable. On that day in 2022, we had cloudy and temperatures between 45 and 28 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 45 degrees. We hit a record high of 75 back in 1990.

Dusk

December 4, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 43 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a south breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 7 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Lately I’ve not been doing evening blog posts ๐Ÿ“ but it’s a fairly nice evening for sitting out back at least by December standards. ๐ŸŽ„ I have my coat ๐Ÿงฅ on but I’m comfortable as there isn’t a breeze. I figure the more time I spend outside, the less chances of catching the COVID.

Speaking of the COVID, ๐Ÿ‘พ that New York Times county level COVID data ๐Ÿค“ is quite interesting and I am going to experiment with it for making maps and other content for the blog over the weekend. I also want to do more reading ๐Ÿ“– on the book ๐Ÿ“™ I got about homesteading, ๐Ÿšœ and do some soldering projects. Definitely get dreaming about a better tomorrow, looking at all that rural land on Zillow. ๐Ÿฎ

Except for the rainy Tuesday morning and my lazy then rainy Monday ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป, I’ve been walking every 12 hours around the 2.5 mile super block around the high school ๐Ÿšธ. It’s good exercise although I a admit I’m getting a bit bored with it. It just feels so redudent but it’s good exercise and a safe walk at night without many road crossings although part of the walkway is pretty dark this time of year. I do go opposite directions in my morning and evening walks. No walking tomorrow with the cold rain expected.

Did a quick wash of my truck today, went to the store and the library to work. ๐Ÿ–ฅ I also bought a small space heater fan, โ™จ something I thought about getting for years but never did. But working at home this winter โ„ I wanted something I could turn on to quickly warm my hands ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป especially after walking outdoors without heating the whole apartment by raising the main gas radiators downstairs or the expensive to operate electric baseboard upstairs which I’m loath to operate and always stink the few times I do use them. Plus now I’m well stocked on groceries for the weekend. ๐Ÿฒ

Tonight will have a chance of rain, mainly after 4am. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 36 degrees at 4am. 11 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 30th. South wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2019, we had clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 28 degrees. The record low of 2 occurred back in 1989.

Tonight will have a Waining Gibbous ๐ŸŒ– Moon with 78% illuminated. At 10 PM, the moon was in the east-northeast (76ยฐ) at an altitude of 18ยฐ from the horizon, some 237,276 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by June 2nd. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The Cold โ˜ƒ Moon is on Monday, December 21. The darkest hour is at 11:47 pm, followed by dawn at 6:39 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:10 am in the east-southeast (120ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 22 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and one second later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:55 am with sun in the southeast (128ยฐ). Tonight will have 14 hours and 48 minutes of darkness, an increase of one minute and 11 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a chance of rain before 10am, then a chance of rain and snow. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 38 degrees at 8am. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 8th. Breezy, with a north wind 7 to 12 mph increasing to 16 to 21 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 36 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 38 degrees. The record high of 65 was set in 2001. 9.0 inches of snow fell back in 1902.โ„

Definitely a stay at home day tomorrow. ๐Ÿก But I will have plenty to occupy myself as long as I’m good and stay off social media. ๐Ÿ“ฑ I should just completely turn off my phone tomorrow. Maybe I will.

In four weeks on January 1 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (239ยฐ) at 4:32 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 10 minutes and 39 seconds later then tonight. In 2020 on that day, we had cloudy, mild temperatures snow showers and temperatures between 40 and 34 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 31 and 16 degrees. The record high of 57 degrees was set back in 1966.

I honestly don’t think 2020 was that bad, ๐Ÿค” certainly not for me. But I’m really ready for a new year and a new start. I kind of enjoyed all the oddities of 2020, made some good money and great memories โ›บ, traveling and working remotely. ๐Ÿ˜ท I guess the pandemic was kind of bad for a lot of folks but I liked the change. ๐ŸŽ„ And a Merry Christmas to you on three weeks. ๐ŸŽ…๐Ÿฟ

Looking ahead, Bake Cookies Day ๐Ÿช is in 2 weeks, Christmas ๐ŸŽ… is in 3 weeks, New Years Day 2021 ๐ŸŽ‰ is in 4 weeks, Bubble Bath Day ๐Ÿงผ is in 5 weeks and 38th Birthday ๐ŸŽ‰ is in 8 weeks.

 Struggling Fire

July 17, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Cloudy and 63 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a south breeze at 14 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 61 degrees. The skies will clear around 4 pm.

I was going to go for the morning walk, ๐Ÿšถbut by the time I trimmed my hair ๐Ÿ’‡ and took a shower and made breakfast, it was too late to walk and be home in time to clock in for work. So instead, I went for a short walk at the Swift Nature Preserve ๐Ÿฆ down the street. Not a lot of wildlife this morning, but I haven’t been to the preserve in a long time, even though it’s literally 200 feet away from my home. I should go for strolls in there more often. It’s kind of a neat pocket preserve, where some times you can see a lot of birds and frogs.๐Ÿธ

It looks like today is going to be a hot day. ๐Ÿ˜ฐ But maybe the clouds will keep it a bit cooler. I’m hoping it will remain cloudy with showers to keep the heat and humidity from being too oppressive. I plan to work down at the library this morning, ๐Ÿ“š as the internet is faster there and I don’t have to worry about using too much bandwidth down there. ๐Ÿ“ถ Hopefully it won’t be too hot, although the fan helps. โ˜ข๏ธ

Today will be scattered showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 11am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 82 degrees at 5pm. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around July 27th. Maximum dew point of 70 at 2pm. Muggers rejoice! I hate when the dew point is that hot. South wind 8 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was very sticky. The high last year was 85 degrees. The record high of 99 was set in 1900.

I still need to get packed and ready for camping.๐Ÿ• I have literally done nothing yet. I’ve just been so tired lately. It’s largely my fault for staying up too late lately, but last night I get to bed at a more reasonable hour. I just go to stay off Facebook and force myself to get to bed earlier. ๐Ÿ›๏ธ I do wonder if I’m having lyme diease symptoms again. ๐Ÿœ Been feeling achy today with the weather.ย  ๐Ÿ’ช I am thinking about actually leaving tomorrow morning early.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:02 pm with sun having an altitude of 68.5ยฐ from the due south horizon (-2.3ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:49 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (293ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (300ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:31 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 20 seconds with dusk around 9:03 pm, which is 43 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:47 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 76 degrees. The dew point will be 69 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 56 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 36 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have patchy fog after 4am. Otherwise, partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 66 degrees at 4am. Four degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 70 at 6pm. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was sticky. It got down to 70 degrees. The record low of 46 occurred back in 1939.

In 1981, A structural failure leads to the collapse of a walkway at the Hyatt Regency in Kansas City, Missouri killing 114 people and injuring more than 200.

Tomorrow will have patchy fog before 7am. Otherwise, sunny and hot ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 91 degrees at 3pm. Eight degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 68 at 11am. Calm wind becoming west around 6 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was very sticky. The high last year was 80 degrees. The record high of 100 was set in 1953.

Looking ahead to Sunday, sunny and hot, โ˜€with a high near 96. Southwest wind 6 to 9 mph. Maximum dew point of 69 at 9pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 83 degrees.

I definately want to get north this weekend. โ›บ And probably for the foreseeable future — in other words until at least Wednesday, but it’s just a matter of getting the energy to get ready and off for another trip. Maybe if I get packed and leave bright and early tomorrow — maybe at 5 or 6 AM, I can have all of tomorrow to get set up, drink beer๐Ÿบ and hang out at the potholers. Money is tight once again ๐Ÿ’ธ but I should enjoy summer before it’s gone for good. ๐Ÿ–

Ice Cave Mountain

July 17, 2019 Morning

Good morning! What day is it? Hump Day, of course. Half a week until vacation. ๐Ÿ–Life’s a beach. Then of course, Two weeks to my Teeth Cleaning Day ๐Ÿ˜ƒ. Mostly cloudy, humid and 76 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. โ˜ Raining up north in the Adirondacks, but not here. Calm wind. The dew point is 70 degrees. It was closer to 75 dew point in my bedroom when I was making pasta for lunch in my bedroom. Steam rises. Dew point has been near constant this morning. The skies will clear Friday around 11 am and incredibly hot. But once I get home from work I’ll grab the propane and fill the coolers and I’ll be on my way to Madison County.

I broke down and turned the fan on for a while last night for easy sleeping. ๐Ÿ˜ด I did cut it down to low by morning and had it off by the time I got up. I just really hate to waste energy and honestly I’d rather be comfortable in a wide range of temperatures, especially if I end up moving to a warmer climate in a few years or decades. The air conditioning on the bus is really nice, but I doubt it will be that cold when I get into the office, although I’ll probably draw the shades when I’m in the office.

Today will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 11am. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Sounds like a muggy summer day. โ›ˆ Mostly cloudy, with a high of 85 degrees at 2pm. Two degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 71 at 10am. Calm wind becoming southeast around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies. It was very sticky. The high last year was 80 degrees. The record high of 99 was set in 1900.

The sun will set at 8:29 pm with dusk around 9:03 pm, which is 42 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ Sunsets are now before 8:30. At sunset, watch out for thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 81 degrees. The dew point will be 70 degrees. The heat index around sunset will be 74. โ›ฑ There will be a calm wind. Today will have 14 hours and 56 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 34 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before midnight, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between midnight and 1am, then a chance of showers after 1am. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 71 degrees at 5am. Nine degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 71 at 6pm. Southeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2018, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 62 degrees. The record low of 46 occurred back in 1939.

That article I shared this morning about living off-grid in San Luis valley, really is kind of fascinating. ๐Ÿ  I am not into trailer living, and I think making a life out in the desert must be hard, but there are many places that are much cheaper and freer then living the city in New York State. I don’t like Colorado as I see where that state is going politically — to the left — with more and more gun restrictions, and the cheap parts of the state aren’t really that nice. I’ve had a fascination with South Dakota, primarily because nobody ever talks about it — Missouri and Idaho are nice, but it seems like there is so much going on up there. But at any rate, I still need to save some more money, and I still have family locally here in New York, at least for a few more years.๐Ÿ”

On this day in 1944, Near the San Francisco Bay, two ships laden with ammunition for the war explode in Port Chicago, California, killing 320. ๐Ÿ’ฃAlso on this day, another deadly tragedy. In 1981, A structural failure leads to the collapse of a walkway at the Hyatt Regency in Kansas City, Missouri killing 114 people and injuring more than 200. It was a stupid engineering mistake, the connectors weren’t probably hooked up on the bridges that spanned the hotel. Amazingly though, the hotel still stands, and it is still renting out rooms, but the bridges are long gone.๐Ÿฆ

They’re still talking about a hot weekend, maybe a little more unsettled in the Finger Lakes, but that’s to be expected with the heat and humidity. Saturday, mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 95. โ˜€Maximum dew point of 74 at 7am. Sunday, scattered showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Partly sunny and hot, with a high near 92. โ›ˆ Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 71 at 6am. Typical average high for the weekend is 83 degrees.

All and all next week looks fairly nice, but I’m going to keep watching the forecast. Maybe some rain showers and thunderstorms, and maybe a cloudy day or two, โ˜ but maybe much better then in recent years. It’s all because I’m not bringing my kayak, and I added the second battery to the solar system in my truck.๐Ÿ˜Ž And except for the weekend, not unreasonably hot — by later in the week I may want my hoodie as it’s going to be cool in the evening.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until my Teeth Cleaning Day ๐Ÿ˜ƒ when the sun will be setting at 8:16 pm with dusk at 8:48 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 86 and 67 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 82 degrees. We hit a record high of 98 back in 1917.
