October 18, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Two weeks to November ๐Ÿฅง. Partly sunny and 38 degrees at the Cherry Ridge Camping Area. There is a south breeze at 11 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. It’s already warmed up a lot from earlier when it was below freezing when I first woke up. But November is only two weeks away.

It’s a beautiful morning โ˜€ but cold with the breeze. I’m going to take down camp โ›บ shortly and go for a walk. Still chewing over my plans for the day. ๐Ÿ’ญ

Today will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 57 degrees at 4pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 22nd. South wind 11 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 52 degrees. The record high of 84 was set in 2016. There was a dusting of snow in 2015.โ„

I am a bit undecided about today. ๐Ÿธ I am thinking about going down to Sherburne later and maybe staying up here one more night, leaving early Monday morning and heading home before the rain โ˜” and work ๐Ÿ’ป. I guess it depends on how cloudy โ›… and cool it becomes today. I might first go for a walk in the state forest. It really depends on how cold and cloudy is later. ๐Ÿ› Plus I don’t want to be shit tired ๐Ÿ’ฉ come Monday at work as there is much to do. Sherburne and the Rogers Environmental Education Center is always nice.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:47 pm with sun having an altitude of 37.4ยฐ from the due south horizon (-33.2ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 7.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:36 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (251ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (257ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:15 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 59 seconds with dusk around 6:42 pm, which is one minute and 35 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west-southwest (238ยฐ) at an altitude of 9ยฐ from the horizon, 227,276 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:16 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 53 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 14 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 54 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 47 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 45 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 2nd. South wind 13 to 15 mph. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 36 degrees. The record low of 20 occurred back in 1974.

I am a bit concerned it might be a very cold night โ„ with the wind if I stay one more night. Plus then it’s going to be a long trip back if a leave at quarter to seven in the morning – before sunrise ๐ŸŒ…. I might be a lot better off to stay until four pm this afternoon and drive home in daylight, maximize what I can before it gets dark out. That way I’ll get a good night’s sleep and be prepared for tomorrow.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until November ๐Ÿฅง when the sun will be setting at 4:53 pm with dusk at 5:22 pm (Standard Time). On that day in 2019, we had cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 70 and 42 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 54 degrees. We hit a record high of 78 back in 1950.

Broken Views of Twin Mountain

October 1, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 58 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒ• Calm wind. Sitting out back, although a few clouds are pushing in. Nice evening not super cold. Bright out with the Harvest Moon ๐ŸŽ‘ but already the clouds are pushing in. ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ

First day of October ๐ŸŽƒ came and went quickly. Busy but rather uneventful and it was nice enough I could sit outside and work for a while. ๐Ÿ’ป Remote work has its benefits when the weather is nice for sure. I was looking at the back of my truck thinking it would be nice to get out camping soon โ›บ but not this weekend, I have too much going on and I don’t think it will be that nice of a weekend.

Finally got shopping ๐Ÿ›’ this evening but I came close to getting into a crash on my way home. ๐Ÿ’ฅ Never saw the car coming ๐Ÿš˜ until both of us slammed on our brakes. It was a busy day and I hadn’t had dinner yet and I was tired ๐Ÿ˜ด and distracted. Such a busy day and my mind was wandering. I shouldn’t have been driving. ๐Ÿก I am glad when I work downtown there is the bus ๐Ÿš to take me home.

It’s been such a busy past few days at work. ๐Ÿ’ผ It doesn’t help that I’ve gotten into the naughty habit of staying up much too late so I’m not preforming my best and I’ve struggling to keep my eyes open ๐Ÿ‘€ between the emails. ๐Ÿ“ง My phone ๐Ÿ“ฑ first rang at 9:01 am and kept ringing except for a few minutes when my phone pinging from email. ๐Ÿ”ข. Some of the stuff today was painfully difficult number crunching too. Tonight I’m in bed ๐Ÿ› and will be sleeping by 11 tonight. I’ve been making the excuse that I can sleep in the mornings as I don’t have a bus ๐Ÿš to catch but that’s a lousey excuse because I still wake up early with the sun. ๐ŸŒ…

I went for my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป and that was non eventful except for a car I walked past that was pulled over with a headlight out. ๐Ÿ‘ฎ๐Ÿผโ€โ™‚๏ธ I wonder how many police officers will be without a job come Election Day. ๐Ÿšจ While politicians can’t fire civil servants that endorse their opponents I think it’s obnoxious that so many of the units are going so strongly for Trump and the fear of crime thing. ๐Ÿ˜จ It’s stupid messaging when crime is so low and local government budgets are so tight. ๐Ÿ’ต

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly after 4am. Increasing clouds ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 48 degrees at 4am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 25th. Light northwest wind. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It was humid. It got down to 49 degrees. The record low of 30 occurred back in 1972.

Tonight is the Harvest Full ๐ŸŒ Moon. At 10 PM, the moon was in the east-southeast (123ยฐ) at an altitude of 31ยฐ from the horizon, some 251,648 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by April 10th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The Hunter ๐Ÿน Moon is on Saturday, October 17. The darkest hour is at 12:46 am, followed by dawn at 6:26 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:54 am in the east (94ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 54 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 7 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:31 am with sun in the east (100ยฐ). Tonight will have 12 hours and 18 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have showers likely, mainly before noon. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 60 degrees at 2pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 15th. Maximum dew point of 50 at 11am. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. It became humid as the day progressed. The high last year was 75 degrees. The record high of 85 was set in 1927. There was a dusting of snow in 1899.โ„

I have a Zoom Meeting tomorrow so I’ll probably work from the library. ๐Ÿ“™ It’s pleasant now that the weather is cooler. I also have an updated theme and look and feel for the blog that I will make live tomorrow. I’ve been testing it for a week now. ๐Ÿ’ฃ It’s mostly just CSS style sheet changes but I think you’ll like it.

Think I heard the first mouse in my apartment this year. ๐Ÿ Nights are getting cold. With the mice as bad as they are in the woods maybe I should try a drowning bucket trap this year to see how many I can catch. Or get a cat. ๐Ÿ™€ My last neighbor had a cat, never had any mice then. I don’t like pets but when I have a hobby farm I could see having a cat to control rodents in the barnyard ๐Ÿ but I do worry about the impact on the birds ๐Ÿฆ.

In four weeks on October 29 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (252ยฐ) at 5:51 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 44 minutes and 29 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly cloudy, warm, rain showers and temperatures between 64 and 53 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 55 and 36 degrees. The record high of 77 degrees was set back in 1946.

And only 13 weeks until we say goodbye to 2020. It’s been a fun year, as John Lindsey would say.

Looking ahead, Average High is 60 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 2 weeks, November ๐Ÿฅง is a month away, Thanksgiving ๐Ÿฆƒ is in 8 weeks, December ๐ŸŽ„ is in 2 months, 7:15 AM Sunrise โŒ›๏ธ is in 10 weeks, Christmas Eve ๐ŸŽ… is in 12 weeks, New Years Eve ๐ŸŽ† is in 13 weeks, New Years Day 2020 ๐ŸŽ‰ is in 3 months, Coldest Week of the Year ๐ŸŒฌ is in 15 weeks, Wolf Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 17 weeks, February ๐ŸŒง is in 4 months, Don’t Cry over Spilled Milk Day ๐Ÿฅ› is in 19 weeks and National Drink Wine Day ๐Ÿท is in 20 weeks.

Scenic Driving Last Friday

May 27, 2020 10 PM Update

Good evening! Partly clear and 78 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a south breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 62 degrees. Warm maybe a tad bit muggy but not too bad.

Back home after five nights in the woods ๐Ÿก and really six full days as I was up to camp on Friday before nine and worked from camp and Speculator, the same true today, Wednesday. I wasn’t planning on staying as long as I did but I decided I’d rather ride out the heat wave up north. It’s already cooled off a lot this evening. ๐Ÿ˜ด Tired because I don’t know I don’t sleep as well at camp although I think ultimately it does help restore my sleep. Plus I’ve been staying up too late most nights and the sun is out after 5 something am.

I have most of the gear unpacked from my truck โ›บ and washed up and ready to go to the attic for storage. The screen tent is great during black fly season but it’s so bulky and heavy I doubt I’ll use it except on extended camping trips.

It was a working day ๐Ÿ’ผ so while I did spend some time in the hammock and at the Speculator Beach, ๐ŸŠ and got covered with sand lying there and splashed in the water a bit, most of the day was devoted to sending emails, running reports and phone calls. ๐Ÿ“ž Left Speculator after five, got home around seven. I’m already missing being in the woods but summer ain’t over yet.

As soon as I started driving through Guilderland, ๐Ÿš˜ and all of the suburban sprawl with the yuppie houses, I was reminded this ain’t really my home, just a place to get the mail. โœ‰ I really want to get to Madison County soon ๐Ÿšœ but there aren’t many roadside campsites up there except the camping area that is closed. Not heading out of town this weekend but maybe next. Some point I hope to never come back to Delmar, owning land in a freerer state.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 66 degrees at 4am. 15 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 62 at 9pm. South wind around 9 mph. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 50 degrees. The record low of 33 occurred back in 1994.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon with 28% illuminated. At 10 PM, the moon was in the west (271ยฐ) at an altitude of 31ยฐ from the horizon, some 232,220 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by November 19th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The Strawberry ๐Ÿ“ Moon is on Friday, June 5. The darkest hour is at 12:54 am, followed by dawn at 4:50 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:24 am in the east-northeast (60ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 21 seconds. Sunrise is 38 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:06 am with sun in the east-northeast (67ยฐ). Tonight will have 8 hours and 59 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 30 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of showers after noon. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 81 degrees at 3pm. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 26th. Maximum dew point of 65 at 1pm. South wind 8 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 57 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 2016. There was a dusting of snow in 1902.โ„

In four weeks on June 24 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (303ยฐ) at 8:37 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 14 minutes and 31 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 85 and 56 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 80 and 59 degrees. The record high of 96 degrees was set back in 1943.

Looking ahead, Latest Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 4 weeks and Inauguration Day 2021 ๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿป is in 34 weeks.

Reflections

May 3, 2020 10 PM Update

Good evening! Partly clear and 64 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 46 degrees. Nice evening, sat out back for a while. Not feeling terrible but still a little achy from the Lyme. I still need to take the doxycline I got from the doctor Friday. ๐Ÿ’Š

Sleeping with the windows open tonight โฌ› which is nice until I heard the sirens from the meat wagon ๐Ÿš‘go roaring by. I wonder if it’s somebody dying of Coronavirus? Hopefully nobody I know. It’s a question one always asks these days.

I thought about staying up north one more night and driving home early tomorrow ๐Ÿš˜ but I decided against that as I broke camp midday to go hiking. ๐Ÿšถ While hiking the remote section of the abandoned Dunning Pond Snowmobile Trail was quiet I eventually lost the trail as it got into dense woods with lots of trees down and few of the old markers. ๐Ÿ”ด Some nice views of the gorge and then a lot of it was an eroded mountain road until the trail left the road and disappeared into the woods. This wouldn’t have been a big problem if I had the GPS tracks from my Google County Maps part of the blog but of course I managed to somehow delete them off my phone. I got to make sure I have them on the phone along with USGS Topo maps saved. I would have also had a better chance of following the herd path up to Eagle Pond that I had lost on Saturday if I had that data saved. ๐ŸŒWell there always is future trips up north.

It was a pretty good weekend up north ๐Ÿ˜Ž with lots of sun and actually quite mild and warm most of the weekend except for brief rain shower around 10 pm Saturday night ๐Ÿ’ฆwhen I ended up retiring to my truck cap earlier than I had planned. Had a nice big fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ at the same campsite I’ve been at the past few times I’ve been up north on the East Branch Sacandaga River. โ›บ Some traffic ๐Ÿšฅ noise but pretty nice. Spent a lot of time laying back in the hammock, soaking up the sun. โ˜€ The sun felt good especially when I felt achy from the Lyme. Warm enough a good portion of the weekend I could just lay out with a t shirt ๐Ÿ‘š on.

Left my Bluetooth speaker ๐Ÿ”Š home which was annoying when I wanted to listen to podcasts and music ๐ŸŽถ. I’m going to start leaving that in the truck. Better to charge it there too – I don’t pay for the unused solar power the truck produces while parked with the solar controller in float mode. ๐Ÿ”‹ Also forgot ketchup for my hotdogs – ended up topping them with baked beans and cheese. ๐Ÿฃ

Explored more of the Fox Lair remains, I want to do one of those historical aerial photo comparisons, especially if I can find the 1942 aerial photo ๐Ÿ“ท. Not a lot left of the ruins, but I wonder if I can find more old pictures on the internet. ๐ŸฐDid some walking ๐Ÿšถ along NY 8 just for exercise too and to take in the scenery.

Came back relatively early, I was unpacked by about six. ๐Ÿก Laid back on my bed for a while before showering ๐Ÿšฟ and shaving. Got a nice tan. Those side burns I’ve grown are coming in nicely but I do need a hair cut ๐Ÿ’‡. I’m going to do some trimming myself in the morning as who knows when the barber ๐Ÿ’ˆ is going to be allowed to reopen. My barber is so elderly, I wonder if he will just hang up his hat ๐ŸŽฉ after the pandemic. I decided to avoid the expressway and cities home so I took NY 30 to Duanesburg Churches Road past the Mariaville Farm to US 20. Pretty drive with things greening up outside Amsterdam but I tell you there are some sharp curves on NY 30 south of Amsterdam. ๐Ÿ”ถ

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 49 degrees at 6am. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 21st. West wind 6 to 8 mph. In 2019, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 52 degrees. The record low of 28 occurred back in 1985.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon with 85% illuminated. At 10 PM, the moon was in the south (175ยฐ) at an altitude of 52ยฐ from the horizon, some 226,511 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by October 22nd. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The Flower ๐ŸŒท Moon is on Thursday, May 7. The darkest hour is at 12:53 am, followed by dawn at 5:16 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:48 am in the east-northeast (68ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 8 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 19 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:27 am with sun in the east-northeast (74ยฐ). Tonight will have 9 hours and 46 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 24 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of showers between 11am and 1pm. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 57 degrees at 11am. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 13th. Northwest wind 9 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 67 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1944. There was a dusting of snow in 1986.โ„

Tomorrow I probably should go to the laundromat ๐Ÿ‘–๐Ÿ‘• ๐Ÿ‘š and wash some clothes and probably my sheets too. I can probably bring my laptop there and work from there, uploading pictures from the weekend that was. I’m good on food but the two gallons of milk I bought last week is almost all drunk. I do like my cow ๐Ÿฎ beverages. Other than that I should be good on food until mid week.

As I noted previously, last weekend I got another tick bite. ๐ŸœI was sore found it on Tuesday. Its been weird – sometimes I feel fine other times terribly stiff and sore. No bulls eye though. Went to the doctor on Friday, she kind of thought I didn’t have Lyme but gave me doxycline. ๐Ÿ’Š I held off taking it as I went to the Adirondacks for the weekend and knew doxycline and sun don’t mix due to the risk of severe sunburn. I’m also a little mixed on my concern – it stings from time to time around where I was bit, I’ve been super sleepy at times. ๐Ÿ˜ด I don’t want to take an antibiotic I don’t need. But I guess the doctor while questioning ๐Ÿ™‹ me said I should take it. I don’t know what to think.

It was such a werid experience going to the doctors office during the pandemic. ๐Ÿ˜ซThe doors had big signs warning people that if they had cold or flu symptoms they aren’t welcome and that they did not offer Coronavirus testing there. The whole experience was kind of odd and frightening. ๐Ÿ‘พ

While I’m always cautious about social distancing and wearing a mask out in public places but between the limited vision under the banada, the empty doctors office, the hand sanitizer everywhere and all these things like a special Coronavirus questionnaire that I had to do on my phone before the doctor would see me. ๐Ÿ“ฑ I was so creeped out by the experience.

In four weeks on May 31 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (301ยฐ) at 8:26 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 27 minutes and 53 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly cloudy, mist and temperatures between 76 and 55 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 74 and 52 degrees. The record high of 92 degrees was set back in 2013.

It looks like for Mothers Day it’s going to be cold and they might get snow in the Adirondacks. โ„ It does not look like a good weekend to get out of town. I’m still thinking about a mid May trip out to Schoharie County – maybe three nights with me working from my truck on a Monday. โ›บ I’m thinking the last week of May – the one after Memorial Day Weekend – to do a three night trip to Piseco Powley Road starting that Thursday night before the weekend if it is nice. I hope to have the screen house by then to avoid the bugs. Peak black fly season isn’t so bad if I have shelter during the day as black flies aren’t out after dark. Memorial Day Weekend proper I’ll stay home ๐Ÿก most likely to avoid the crowds especially if other developed campgrounds are closed forcing people into the back country taking up all the good sites. I’m also seriously thinking about planning my summer vacation up at Piseco Powley Road – and a week at the House Pond Swimming Hole could make up for all the state park pools being closed. ๐ŸŠ I’d have to see about getting a camping permit.

Looking ahead, Mothers Day ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€ is in 1 week, Pack Rat Day ๐Ÿ€ is in 2 weeks, Strawberry Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 5 weeks, Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ is in 6 weeks, Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 6 months and Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 6 months.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿฆ…Only 19 days remain until the start of Memorial Day Weekend!๐Ÿฆ…๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Tulip Time!

March 26, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Six weeks to Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ•. Mostly sunny and 33 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. I turned off the heat and will probably open some of the windows in a bit. Honestly if I go out in a bit I won’t have any shortage of solar power for my laptop. That said, my power situation is pretty good now that I got the car charger working again – it’s totally silent and saves a lot of power.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 58 degrees at 5pm. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 14th. Light south wind increasing to 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had sunny skies. The high last year was 45 degrees. The record high of 74 was set in 1986. 6.1 inches of snow fell back in 1899.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:02 pm with sun having an altitude of 49.8ยฐ from the due south horizon (-21ยฐ vs. 6/21). Not quite 50 degrees. A six foot person will cast a 5.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:38 pm with the sun in the west (268ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (274ยฐ) starting at 7:12 pm and lasts for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:43 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west (265ยฐ) at an altitude of 19ยฐ from the horizon, 250,340 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:17 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 53 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 28 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have isolated showers after 3am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 37 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 13th. South wind 5 to 9 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 22 degrees. The record low of 11 occurred back in 1975.

It looks like the weekend forecast has improved a bit. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 55. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph in the afternoon. Sunday, rain. High near 51. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Typical average high for the weekend is 50 degrees.

Almost sounds nice enough to head out of town for the weekend โ›บ but the question ๐Ÿ™‹ is where to go. There is still quite a bit of snow up north and probably things are really muddy in Madison County. Plus I don’t trust the forecast – I still think there is a decent chance for cloudy โ˜ skies this weekend and I’m not thrilled about the idea of staying in a campground if there are others anywhere nearby. I bet Madison County smells very earthy and cow like ๐Ÿšœ with all farmers working the land.

Starting to think about getting a new phone ๐Ÿ“ฑ, mainly because my current one is always low on memory and tends to be slow and now would be a good time to get it when I’m home ๐Ÿก and can sign for the package rather than have to drive to Menands. This LG Sunset phone has held up well for the past three years, although I did replace the battery ๐Ÿ”‹ once. They’re not really expensive for the basic tract phones that I use but I hate to replace something that’s not worn out. ๐Ÿšฎ

Looking ahead, there are 6 weeks until Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ• when the sun will be setting at 8:02 pm with dusk at 8:34 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 66 and 49 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 67 degrees. We hit a record high of 92 back in 1930. Longer, warmer days and black flies aren’t far away.

March 25, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 37 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Calm wind. The snow is basically gone except from some sad snow men. โ˜ƒ ๏ธTemperatures will drop below freezing around 1 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Wasn’t sure how cold โ„ it would be on my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ but it turned out to be a fairly reasonable night. Little more traffic tonight than recent nights – it’s been so quiet lately when I go for my evening walk. Maybe because it was a little later. Ran into some random person smoking pot on a dark part of the street but I social distance him so no real concerns there. ๐Ÿšฌ People get it, they appreciate it when you give them distance. ๐Ÿ…

Today went by quickly, it was a pretty quiet day at work. ๐Ÿ˜‚It does save a lot of time not commuting and I kind of like working out of my truck. ๐Ÿ’ป That said, conference calls and even Zoom Meetings aren’t like being in person, although I do like the mute ๐Ÿ”• button โšซand being able to flip to other browser tabs. Plus work done at home without social media distractions is much more productive. I’ve discovered how truly much more energy efficient the DC car charger for my laptop is compared to the AC charger plugged into my inverter. ๐Ÿ”Œ

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 28 degrees at 6am. One degree below normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 23rd. Light and variable wind. Not all that much longer before the average night is above freezing in Albany. Then I’ll definitely be able to have heat off. โ™จ In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 21 degrees. The record low of 2 occurred back in 1960.

The darkest hour is at 1:02 am, followed by dawn at 6:22 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:50 am in the east (87ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 54 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 45 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:27 am with sun in the east (93ยฐ). Tonight will have 11 hours and 32 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 58 degrees at 4pm. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 14th. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Should be a really nice day. I won’t mind working down a Five Rivers in my truck tomorrow for sure. Beats working in the dungeon. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 45 degrees. The record high of 74 was set in 1986. 6.1 inches of snow fell back in 1899.โ„

I ordered a new pair of boots ๐Ÿ‘ข because the ones I’m wear are showing holes through their bottoms. I found I can order my size online and get free shipping, so no digging through the store to find their not in stock. Still having trouble with the state tax department website. ๐ŸฌDidn’t get a chance to do any more research into screened in tents for camping during Black Fly Season or some of my longer trips for rainy days ๐ŸŽช but I should do that tomorrow.

I also got to think about where I want to go for my April road trip. โ›บ I am thinking Madison and Chenango Counties for good trout fishing ๐ŸŽฃ opportunities but the Adirondacks are still a possibility. ๐Ÿ—ป Depends on how much snow there is. That said, while the state forests camping areas are quite large compared to campgrounds, I kind of want to be as far away from others as possible in this era of social distancing.๐Ÿ‘พ Plastic gloves while pumping gas โ›ฝ, hand sanitizer and just staying as far away from others as possible, as it seems like the apex of the Coronavirus crisis in New York will be about the week I’m planning my trip.

Took another sleeping pill ๐Ÿ’Š so I sleep well because otherwise I wake up during the night and turn on the BBC or NPR Morning Edition ๐Ÿ“ป and the news ๐Ÿ“ฐ is so sad and worrying. ๐Ÿ˜ข Coronavirus is a disaster and it’s only going to get worse before it gets better. It’s a crazy wind driven wildfire that is out of control, going to jump every fire break we put up against it. ๐Ÿ”ฅ I am not convinced that social distancing is going to have a big impact – it feels good to spray the out of control fire with water ๐Ÿ’ฆ – but it’s not going to stop burning until Coronavirus naturally burns itself out. I bet Texas won’t get hit as hard as New York even though they’ve done far less. My science friend who is on the front lines says Coronavirus is blowing right towards the big nursing homes ๐Ÿ‘ด in New York City and while they are doing everything they can to stop the march ๐Ÿ‘พinto the facilities, it’s going to arrive shortly and it will lead to a shocking number of casualties. ๐ŸขIts endlessly sad and I think it’s very dishonest of the politicians to act like their is much we can do at this point. ๐ŸŽค

In four weeks on April 22 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (288ยฐ) at 7:45 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 55 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly sunny, warm and temperatures between 74 and 51 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 61 and 40 degrees. The record high of 86 degrees was set back in 1985.

Looking ahead, April Fools Day ๐Ÿคก is in 1 weeks, Pink Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 2 weeks, Tax Day ๐Ÿ’ฐ is in 3 weeks except its not due to Coronavirus, Earth Day ๐ŸŒŽ is in 4 weeks, Memorial Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 2 months, Latest Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 13 weeks and Inauguration Day 2021 ๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿป is in 43 weeks.

March 24, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 38 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a northwest breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There are 2 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธWarm weather and relatively soft ground has done a number on the snow. Temperatures will drop below freezing around 1 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

It was kind of a quiet day at work and gray outside. โ˜ The stuff I needed to do for work I was able to handle using my smartphone so I ended up staying home. ๐Ÿ“™ In the afternoon and evening I read a bunch of that book I got about Thomas Edison and went for my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ after making a big pot of macaroni and cheese with all kinds of fixings. ๐Ÿฒ I noticed that they spread a bunch of salt on the road tonight. How to wash my truck if the car wash is closed?

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 28 degrees at 6am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 23rd. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 28 degrees. The record low of 0 occurred back in 1875.

Tonight will have a New Moon ๐Ÿ†• . The Pink ๐ŸŒธ Moon is on Tuesday, April 7. The darkest hour is at 1:02 am, followed by dawn at 6:23 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:52 am in the east (87ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 54 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 46 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:29 am with sun in the east (93ยฐ). Tonight will have 11 hours and 35 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of snow before 11am, then a chance of rain and snow between 11am and 1pm, then a chance of rain after 1pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 43 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 14th. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. I’m hoping for a little sun, at least in the afternoon. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 46 degrees. The record high of 74 was set in 1910. 1.9 inches of snow fell back in 1960.โ„

Tomorrow I have a conference call midday and I’ll probably go out to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center for that then go hiking later ๐Ÿšถ at least on the loop road which won’t be so muddy. I got to order a new pair of boots, the ones I wear everyday are worn. I also need to amend one of my tax payments to the state so it has the updated SEFCU routing number. ๐Ÿ”ข

I am conceding that the president’s promise of the Coronavirus closures is probably a bit too optimistic ๐Ÿ‘พbut I think everybody is looking for closure on this chapter of history but it’s going to take a while longer especially as the illness so rapidly spreads despite all the efforts to slow it. โ›” Still I’m sure state bondholders are putting pressure on state leaders who are likewise seeing an enormous drop in revenue and the big cuts and tax hikes that will be needed to close the gap. ๐Ÿ’ต And I know a lot of people want to get back to work. ๐Ÿ‘ท

In four weeks on April 21 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (287ยฐ) at 7:44 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 56 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly cloudy, warm weather and temperatures between 72 and 52 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 61 and 39 degrees. The record high of 89 degrees was set back in 1923.

Looking ahead, 7:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is in 2 weeks, Cinco de Mayo ๐Ÿค  is in 6 weeks, Primary Day ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 13 weeks, Latest Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 3 months and Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 32 weeks.
