The rain let up for the morning walk โ˜”

I really didn’t think I would get out walking today outside but it turned out to just be a drizzle if that. Not sure if it will be this light all day but probably because when they warn of heavy rain it always gets scared off and leaves two drops of rain.

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Rain drops ๐Ÿ’ง and cloudy and 67 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Calm wind. The dew point is 66 degrees. The rain will stop tonight and skies will clear tomorrow around 5 am. Might be a good day to take delivery of Blackie, the name I gave my new mountain bike if it’s ready.

This morning out walking ๐Ÿšถ. I’m happy about that. The black coffee โ˜• – already had a half cup and breakfast will be original cream of wheat with frozen blueberries and a good glop of plain non fat Greek yogurt mixed in for protein and taste. ๐Ÿฅฃ At first I struggled to adopt the Greek yogurt craze ๐Ÿคช, as it’s rather tart and when I started eating healthy I zeroed in on the calories and saturated fats in dairy but I came around getting to like the somewhat bitter taste, noting the excellent ratio of protein to calories and how it’s a way to support dairy ๐Ÿฎ without as much of the unhealthy crap as cheese ๐Ÿง€ and ice cream ๐Ÿฆ.

Today will rain and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. ๐ŸŒง High of 75 degrees at 5pm. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 4th. Maximum dew point of 69 at 10am. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ Light north wind becoming northwest 5 to 10 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 81 degrees. The record high of 100 was set in 1936.

I am hoping it stays dry enough to walk this evening ๐Ÿ‘ฃ but realistically I see the forecast. I will do the best I can do at lunch time, walking in the Concourse or maybe in the walkway. But it might be a good evening to continue reading either the Boggleheads Guide to Investing or Beginner’s Guide to D3.js. I am trying to learn more about D3.js. ๐Ÿ“š I took a FreeCodeCamp class on D3.js last fall but I’ve never used it but it’s a powerful tool for creating visualizations in Javascript. I also need to retire the debt on my credit card today, ๐Ÿ’ณ as I need more room under my credit limit so I can actually purchase the bike this week. ๐Ÿšต‍โ™€๏ธ Also want to get my FreeCreditReport and make sure all my credit accounts are still locked and clear, like they should be — and super boring.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:01 pm with sun having an altitude of 69.6° from the due south horizon (-1.2° vs. 6/21). The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:53 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (295°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (302°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:35 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 24 seconds with dusk around 9:08 pm, which is 27 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:53 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 71 degrees. The dew point will be 65 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 10 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 11 seconds over yesterday.

Last night I got reading ๐Ÿ“– the Boggleheads Guide to Investing. Truth be told not much I didn’t already know but it’s good to expand your knowledge. I’ve done a lot of things right though I fully admit in some cases I leave money ๐Ÿ’ต on the table. Automatic investing with low cost index funds remains key to sustainable wealth growth. I probably could live without my big jacked up truck ๐Ÿ›ป or my new mountain bike ๐Ÿšต or my guns I don’t use enough ๐Ÿ”ซ but I also don’t take flamboyant vacations in fancy hotels, I don’t have internet, cable or air conditioning at my run down apartment in the city and I use public transport to get work. I’m really putting away a good chunk of money for retirement – federal maximums for my Roth IRA, Deferred Comp and plus I got my pension and also buy $415 weekly of a variety of index and bond funds. The hell of it is my credit score is complete crap, below 800, because I have never borrowed money outside of my credit card — no student or auto loans ever, and I refused to allow the bank to set a credit limit above $5,000 — which means my credit utilization is relatively high at 10-15% each month. ๐Ÿ’ณ But hopefully if I ever need to use credit to buy land or something else, I can put the majority down in cash, so I don’t get bit through the nose ๐Ÿฝ for refusing to use credit through the years.

And reading this book, truth is though that I feel more then a little guilty spending so much money on a fancy new bike, though my old clunker would still be that even if I did finish the rebuild project. ๐Ÿšฒ I’m hoping to get a lot of use out of the bicycle to sure — already been thinking about some remote-country hammock camping, only reachable by bicycle trail come August. ๐Ÿคฏ Spent some time pondering what to do with my old bicycle — I’ll possibly continue the rebuild as I now have the back wheel back together, but I honestly don’t want to spend much more time or money on parts that now that I will soon have the Blackie. ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿ”ง I think it’s in too rough of shape to be traded in with the fork a little rough and still some of the parts not reinstalled, but I’m kind of hoping that Albany Bicycle Rescue will take it as a donation. I have too much clutter, but I’d rather it get more use then take it to a scrap yard. ๐Ÿ‡ I probably eat some grapes and chickpeas for stress eating last night, but I did follow it by a walk, ๐Ÿ‘ฃ as the rain let up last night. Overall, despite eating a large dinner — I mostly eat too much fruit and vegetables, and some rather unhealthy small portion of chicken and rice, I did still walk 9 1/2 miles yesterday and plan to do hopefully 10 miles today, and 40 flights of stairs. I do worry about getting obese ๐Ÿคฐ though in the future should I fall off my rocker.

Tonight will rain likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 8pm, then a chance of rain and thunderstorm then a chance of of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 62 degrees at 6am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around July 9th. Maximum dew point of 67 at 6pm. Northwest wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 55 degrees. The record low of 48 occurred back in 1986.

On this day in 1890, Wyoming is admitted to the United States as the 44th US State. ๐Ÿค Many liberals regard that as a mistake, although it has some beautiful country out in Yellowstone and lots of oil and coal. ๐Ÿ›ข๏ธAnd in 1962, Telstar, the world’s first communication satellite is launched.๐Ÿ“ก It would be destroyed within a year or so due to above ground nuclear testing. People think it was radiation and human sickness ๐Ÿคฎ that lead to the above ground test ban ๐Ÿ’ฃ when it was really concerns about damage to military satellites. ๐Ÿ›ฐ

A very typical summer weekend ahead. Hot and humid, thunderstorm โ›ˆ threat all weekend. Saturday, a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 84. Chance of precipitation is 50%. โ˜€ Maximum dew point of 70 at 11am. Sunday, a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 85. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Maximum dew point of 70 at 11am. Typical average high for the weekend is 84 degrees.

Looks like a decent weekend. โ›บ I’m still thinking about heading out to Schoharie this weekend for riding the Catskill Scenic Trail, swimming ๐ŸŠ, the auto show at NY Power Authority. ๐Ÿš™ I might take off Monday if it’s nice. I kind of don’t like driving back to Betty Brook due to the tight campsite and rough roads with my big jacked up truck but I’m thinking Sunday night there is a good chance I could get the campsite either on West Kill Road or Cole Hollow. The prior would mean you could get an early start, head down to Stamford and Monday morning and do the leg of the trail from Stamford down to Bloomville. ๐Ÿšฒ Monday’s are usually easier to get off plus then it’s a four day week the next two weeks as I’m leaving for vacation on a Friday. Then the week after vacation is my dentist appointment ๐Ÿฆท not this week as I originally thought.

A lot of my weekend plans depends on when I take delivery of Blackie, ๐Ÿšฒ and when I get the kick stand, rack and crate on it. I decided I’ll add yellow reflective DOT tape to the rear and sides of the black crate and the rack to improve visibility when riding on the road. I found my old front and back lights, though I’m missing the mount for the rear one or more like I think it broke when I took it off the old bike a few weeks back when I was restoring it. Supposedly from the online inventory the bike store has the kick stand, the MIK rack and MIK connector plate as I’d like to have that all installed before I head out for the weekend, along with the bicycle registered and licensed with the town, photos and other information sent to my insurer.

Looking ahead, there are 6 weeks until World Mosquito Day ๐Ÿž when the sun will be setting at 7:50 pm with dusk at 8:18 pm. My gawd have they been bad at times lately in the woods, especially for the evening walk at Elm Ave Town Park. On that day in 2022, we had hot and muggy weather ๐Ÿ˜ฐ , partly sunny and temperatures between 88 and 70 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 82 degrees. The mosquitoes loved that. We hit a record high of 98 back in 1916.

Those clouds look scary, although we got no more rain for the rest of the day. Also, notice the beautiful COR-TEN guard rail, which is rapidly becoming an endangered species, as the DOT is going back to stainless. Maybe at specifically scenic locations, like here, they will choose painted stainless guard rail, as used on the bridge rails here (but not the guardrail).

April 23, 2023 Evening

Turned out to be a beautiful ending to the weekend ๐Ÿž

It really is a beautiful evening with everything greening up. It was such a rainy dark start to the day but it left everything such a beautiful green.

Good evening! Partly clear and 50 degrees at the Bennett Hill Preserve. ๐ŸŒ‡ There is a northwest breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The skies will clear tomorrow around 9 pm.

It was nice seeing the folks. ๐Ÿ‘ช We had a nice afternoon, Dad helped me get the gears โš™ off my bike ๐Ÿšฒ wheel. I’m still trying to determine the spoke length, I’m thinking 292 mm but struggling to confirm with the online calculators.

We had an interesting conversations ๐Ÿ‘ฅ and I played out back for a while with the dog. ๐Ÿถ I did my wash ๐Ÿ‘š and we had dinner. Sausage and peppers, with bread with dipping sauce. I nibbled on some bread and a little bit of sauce but it’s pretty high on calories, sugars and carbohydrates so I didn’t partake like I might have years ago. ๐Ÿ Once you quit that old way of eating that kind of food tastes overly sweet and fatty and it’d hard to really enjoy much of it. Still it was nice to sit around the table with my parents.

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly before 11pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 39 degrees at 6am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 21st. Northwest wind 9 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2022, we had light rain in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 45 degrees. The record low of 25 occurred back in 1965.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon with 16% illuminated. At 7 PM, the moon was in the west (259ยฐ) at an altitude of 51ยฐ from the horizon, some 246,401 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by October 27th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ

The Flower ๐ŸŒท Moon is on Friday, May 5. The darkest hour is at 12:55 am, followed by dawn at 5:33 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:03 am in the east-northeast (72ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 2 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 31 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:42 am with sun in the east-northeast (79ยฐ). Tonight will have 10 hours and 11 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 38 seconds over last night.

Northwest wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 72 degrees. The record high of 81 was set in 2001. 1.2 inches of snow fell back in 1967.โ„

In four weeks on May 21 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (299ยฐ) at 8:18 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 30 minutes and 31 seconds later then today. In 2022 on that day, we had hot, humid, partly cloudy and temperatures between 91 and 65 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 73 and 50 degrees. The record high of 92 degrees was set back in 1941.

 Off Blueberry Hill

March 9, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. The direct drive of the week. Tomorrow we shove it down to over drive and the weekend. Mostly cloudy and 28 degrees for the morning walk in Delmar at 6:15 am. โ˜ There is a northwest breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at around 9 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

And so the cycle repeats. ๐Ÿ”ด Like a red rubber ball. Cold start to the morning but it’s still March. Going to be so dark come next week but I’ve already been practicing getting to bed ๐Ÿ› earlier. Today assuming that I finish up my 10,000 steps ๐Ÿ‘ฃ it will mark a 50 day straight run of walking my goal ๐Ÿฅ… though most days I beat my goal. Session day but I was out walking ๐Ÿšถ early and there is no reason why I can’t do an evening walk ๐ŸŒƒ too.

Today will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 40 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 2nd. Northwest wind around 10 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became light snow by afternoon. The high last year was 35 degrees. The record high of 81 was set in 2016. 6.9 inches of snow fell back in 1961.โ„

I don’t think it will reach into the eighties today, ๐Ÿ– but I remember those days well and the big ol fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ I had up at Burnt Rossman that weekend. It was beautiful weekend that week, no snow and not bone dry either as it rained a few days before.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:07 pm with sun having an altitude of 42.8ยฐ from the due south horizon (-28ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:17 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (258ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ

I was annoyed that the remaining oranges I had bought ๐ŸŠ just this week went soft and moldy by Wednesday. I checked them at the store ๐Ÿฌ and they were good there. Two weeks in a row, once at Wally World and the other at Hannaford. I guess I need pigs ๐Ÿฝ and chickens ๐Ÿ” to eat them. Regardless, I think they must be getting out of season. I have sufficient apples ๐Ÿ and bananas ๐ŸŒ at work to make it through the week though and frozen fruit at home. I missed the farmers market this week to get potatoes ๐Ÿฅ” and mushrooms ๐Ÿ„ yesterday which is annoying.

The sunset is in the west (265ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:55 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 6:22 pm, which is one minute and 12 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:55 pm. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies โ˜ and temperatures around 38 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 42 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 53 seconds over yesterday.

I finally fixed the button on my salmon pink dress shirt ๐Ÿ‘šthat popped off in January. I didn’t have any needles I could find ๐Ÿชก and then I got busy and forgot about it as I had recently bought additional shirts but I kind of like that shirt.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 25 degrees at 6am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 11th. North wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2022, we had light snow in the evening, which became mist by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 20 degrees. The record low of 0 occurred back in 1996.

Today in 1959, Barbie doll makes its debut at the American International Toy Fair in New York. ๐Ÿง’ Dogs have been enjoying their heads every since. ๐Ÿถ

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, a chance of snow, mixing with rain after 11am, then gradually ending. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 39. North wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. I’ll have to plan to walk early. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 43. About average for Sunday. Typical average high for the weekend is 43 degrees.

January 29, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Happy Fortieth Birthday to Me. ๐ŸŽ‚ I’m not telling anyone on Facebook, we’ll see if anyone notices, lol. ๐Ÿ˜‚ Getting up and starting breakfast shortly. Then taking down camp and heading out for a walk. Later on depending on my mood I might go to Rennselearville Falls and hike there though it’s a cloudy day and I doubt there will be much ice this year due to being so mild. Come next weekend might be a different story though it’s going to be frigid then and I doubt I’ll be camping then.

Mostly cloudy and 33 degrees in Rennselearville State Forest. โ˜ There is a south breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There are 3 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ The warmth and sun was tough on the snow yesterday and it will be warmer today for just one more day. ๏ธTemperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 5 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Yesterday was a beautiful day for skiing ๐ŸŽฟ. Lots of blue skies and sun โ˜€ and not much wind. Still the morning was cold enough the snow was good though midday it got a bit tacky by melting and a few bare patches. But much better than the initial forecast. I did a lot of skiing last night. ๐ŸŽฟ

Today will have a chance of showers, mainly after 1pm. Cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 41 degrees at 1pm. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 3rd. South wind 7 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 14 degrees. The record high of 54 was set in 2002. 8.3 inches of snow fell back in 1990.โ„

Does forty feel much different than 39? ๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿป Not really. I don’t think I’m much more gray than yesterday. But it’s still both an exciting and somewhat scary time as things are bound to change at an accelerating rate. But I’m ready to embrace it and take the necessary steps to make my 50th birthday in ten years especially special. There are so many things I want to do but there are steps in the mean time to follow. ๐Ÿ”ฎ

Sunset tonight is at 5:06 pm with dusk ๐ŸŒ† around 5:37. 9 hours and 56 minutes of daylight an increase of two minutes over yesterday. Cloudy breezy and 36 at sunset with a chance of rain showers. And then cold for mid week into next weekend. Cold then even by January standards, though Wednesday starts February and the Ground Hog reports to duty on Thursday. He’ll see his shadow and it will be cold โ„ for a while.

Later on today, going out to my parents house ๐Ÿก for Sunday dinner and to spend the evening with them. Than back to work next week. A real five day work week. ๐Ÿข Like everything it will go by quickly. Not planning any more trips in the near future as it’s going to be cold but maybe if it warms up for President’s Day Week I’ll plan a long weekend somewhere to be decided. Maybe Five Rivers next Saturday though it will be cold or maybe I’ll go up to see John Wolcott and his wife. I guess I could always mall walk if it’s truly frigid with the muzzle on. ๐Ÿ˜ท

Since the start of December I’ve camped eight nights โ›บ only two of them in the heated tent the rest in my truck cap. ๐Ÿ›ป I actually prefer to sleep in an unheated place, I sleep better ๐Ÿ˜ด although even the heated tent isn’t heated while I sleep for obvious safety reasons. While the trip to Rennselearville State Forest wasn’t as invigorating as Madison County with all the farms and rural landscapes ๐Ÿฎ its nice to get away from the city ๐Ÿ™ for a few nights. ๐ŸŒฒ

End of the Day

January 15, 2023 9 AM Update

Good morning! Made it what is normally the coldest โ„ part of the year and I’m out camping ๐Ÿ• in Madison County. What can I say, I’m kind of nuts ๐Ÿฅœ and I like burning shit ๐Ÿ”ฅ and spending time out in the country where things are real. ๐Ÿšœ For a while last night that fire was rip roaring and that smoke was black! Well it is Martin Luther King weekend. ๐Ÿ–ค

Mostly cloudy and 13 degrees at the Moscow Hill Camping Area. โ˜ There is a north-northwest breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The current wind chill is 2. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ Things will start to thaw out at Tuesday around 10 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธI’ll be home by then then.

I planned to leave by nine yesterday and started down the road and realized that I didn’t know where my hat and gloves ๐Ÿงค were which are kind of essential for winter camping. So I ended up heading home and searching ๐Ÿ”Ž for a half hour until I realized that I stuck it in the cooler to carry it out.

Then I had to stop in Esperance for food and fuel. โ›ฝ ๐Ÿฅฉ The roads were just wet and salty all the way until I got out to Brookfield where they were snow covered. They don’t have a bare pavement policy in Madison County though the roads did have plenty of sand on them. I got to camp โ›บ on Saturday around 12:30 which left plenty of time to gather and chop wood for the night ahead ๐Ÿ”ฅ and set up camp and listen to a podcast then go for an hour walk in a beautifully snow ๐ŸŒจ covered woods before dusk. ๐ŸŒ† And cook some sausages up for lunch. ๐ŸŒญ

Today will be mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny โ˜ โ˜€ , with a high of 27 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees below normal. North wind around 8 mph. A year ago, we had mist in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 38 degrees. The record high of 65 was set in 1995. 13.4 inches of snow fell back in 1983.โ„

I’ll believe it when I see it for the sun, โ˜€ so far this morning has been pretty cool and gray. I’d like some sun, preferably by midday to top off the battery bank ๐Ÿ”‹. The weatherman promised sun for today but I’m not that hopeful with the skies so gray.

Today I have planned out a ten mile hike around the state forest, ๐Ÿด hiking the horse trails which should be well frozen this time of year. In the summer they can be quite swampy from the horse hooves churning things up but things are well cold and frozen today.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:12 pm with sun having an altitude of 26ยฐ from the due south horizon (-44.5ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 12.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:09 pm with the sun in the southwest (234ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (242ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:53 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 19 seconds with dusk around 5:23 pm, which is one minute and 11 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:59 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 24 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 26 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 39 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 8 degrees at 6am. Eight degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around 10 at 5am; North wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light freezing rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 30 degrees. The record low of -16 occurred back in 1971.

Going to be a cold night ๐Ÿ”‹ I may need to start my truck up to be safe before bed. ๐Ÿ› But once I’m under the covers I should be good. But first I plan to have a big ol fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ just like I had last night.

Looking ahead, there are 2 weeks until 40th Birthday ๐ŸŽ‰ when the sun will be setting at 5:11 pm with dusk at 5:40 pm. On that day in 2022, we had cold, partly sunny and temperatures between 14 and 0 degrees. Maybe I’ll go camping then too. โ›บ LOL ๐Ÿ˜‚. Typically, the high temperature is 33 degrees. We hit a record high of 54 back in 2002.

Clearing

December 21, 2022 Morning

Good morning! Mostly sunny and 16 degrees at the Rensselaerville State Forest. โ˜€ Calm wind. Without the wind it feels much warmer. It’s actually a beautiful day with the sun. There are 15 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 6 pm. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

While last night was a bit cold with the wind, ๐Ÿ’จ today is absolutely beautiful, โ˜€ a good day to get away for two nights and do some skiing ๐ŸŽฟ on the snowmobile trails when most people are at work. I’m off this week but with the cold weather and the rain and snow coming I figure head home Thursday. Reading the news ๐Ÿ“ฐ I picked a good week to be off, though in my current position I don’t have to deal with so much of that silliness.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high around the freezing point at 2pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around January 15th. Light southwest wind. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 42 degrees. The record high of 62 was set in 2018. 6.6 inches of snow fell back in 2008.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:56 am with sun having an altitude of 24.1ยฐ from the due south horizon (-46.9ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 13.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:42 pm with the sun in the southwest (230ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (238ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:27 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 25 seconds with dusk around 4:58 pm, which is 28 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:35 pm. At sunset, look for mostly sunny skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 30 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 9 hours and 6 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 3 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have increasing clouds โ˜, with a low of 16 degrees at 9pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around January 11th. Maximum wind chill around 12 at 11pm; West wind around 6 mph becoming east in the evening.
