Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Partly cloudy and 31 degrees at the Elm Ave Park and Ride. โ›… Breezy, ๏ธ22 mph breeze from the northwest ๐ŸŒฌ with gusts up to 32 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. The current wind chill is 18. There are 3 inches of ice and snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at Sunday around vyv v vga11 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Once again I chickened ๐Ÿฅ out and decided to go in early and walk the Concourse with the muzzle on. ๐Ÿ˜ท I did walk down to the Park and Ride and am trying to walk faster so hopefully I can avoid walking outside in the evening. It actually wasn’t too bad down to the Park and but when I first got up boy oh boy ๐Ÿง’ was that wind roaring. Ideally I would have my steps before the end of the work day so I can do them inside but I don’t know if that’s possible. ๐Ÿ‘ฃ I’m thinking of walking down to the library ๐Ÿ“š in the evening if necessary to complete today’s walk program.

Today will be partly sunny, with a temperature falling to around 21 by 5pm. โ˜€ ๐Ÿ’จ Blustery, with a northwest wind 18 to 24 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 45 degrees. The record high of 74 was set in 2017. 8.0 inches of snow fell back in 1962. โ„

Amazing how fast the fruits ๐Ÿ ๐ŸŠ๐ŸŒ have disappeared from my office ๐Ÿข. Same thing with the frozen ones at home. I don’t know if I’ve actually lost any weight, my scale at home is broke but I feel a lot more full and eat less at dinner which saves money ๐Ÿ’ต and feel less light headed at times.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:10 pm with sun having an altitude of 37.9ยฐ from the due south horizon (-33ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 7.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:00 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (251ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (258ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:39 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 58 seconds with dusk around 6:06 pm, which is one minute and 15 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon in the southwest (233ยฐ) at an altitude of 50ยฐ from the horizon, 238,269 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:40 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 21 degrees. The wind chill around sunset will be 7. โ˜ƒ๏ธ Breezy, 17 mph breeze โ›… from the northwest. Today will have 11 hours and 2 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 47 seconds over yesterday.

Exploring the Concourse ๐Ÿข I’ve discovered new places to walk ๐Ÿšถ like the South Swan Tunnel which has an interesting set of photographs ๐Ÿ–ผ of the Empire State Plaza construction ๐Ÿšง and other colorful locations in New York State. I’ve also done the Well of the LOB, Capitol Building and under the Egg. I should think about the forth and fifth floor of the Capitol, if memory serves me right there is an interesting mix of tunnels, stairs and walkways up there. Rainy but mild days I could do the walkway to the Knickerbocker Arena.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 5 degrees at 4am. 15 degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around -4 at 5am; North wind 7 to 16 mph. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 26 degrees. The record low of -14 occurred back in 1914.

Tomorrow will have a chance of snow showers, mainly after noon. Cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 25 degrees at 3pm. 14 degrees below normal. North wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 44 degrees. The record high of 70 was set in 2017. 16.8 inches of snow fell back in 1966.โ„

Looking ahead to Sunday, a slight chance of rain showers after 1pm, mixing with snow after 4pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 39. Light and variable wind becoming west 5 to 10 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Typical average high for the weekend is 39 degrees.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until St. Patrick’s Day ๐Ÿ€ when the sun will be setting at 7:05 pm with dusk at 7:31 pm (Daylight Savings Time). On that day in 2022, we had cloudy and temperatures between 45 and 28 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 45 degrees. We hit a record high of 75 back in 1990.

Dusk

February 20, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Cloudy and 36 degrees at the Moscow Hill Camping Area. ๐ŸŒฅ There is a south-southwest breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 5 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

The past few days I’ve decided to take a break from social media and the blog ๐Ÿ“œ so I can spend more time in the woods hiking and thinking, ๐Ÿ‘‚ listening to podcasts and drinking ๐Ÿป beer and being away from it all. Two nights is never enough, especially since I got used to remote work from camp. I could have taken tomorrow off but rain is coming.

I was on the fence about where to this long weekend โ›บ but settled on Brookfield as there was more trails I wanted to explore and the forecast while cloudy for Sunday and today looked less wet. I had been at Rennselearville State Forest three weekends ago and wanted to mix things up especially so I didn’t burn up too much firewood. Plus I like the rural landscape ๐Ÿšœ heading out to Brookfield. Longer drive though but a pleasant one.

Saturday I walked around Glimmerglass State Park ๐Ÿž and it was cold by the lake but in the woods with the wind ๐Ÿƒ blocked by the mountains it wasn’t so bad. I didn’t stick around very long as such. Deep blue skies and a pretty sunset ๐ŸŒ‡. Got to Moscow Hill Horse Camp ๐Ÿด and set up camp then hiked over to Elmer’s Place and then bushwhacked over Grassy Hill trying to find a good view which didn’t exist but I did flush out a ton of grouse. ๐Ÿ•Š

By the time I got back to camp it was 6:10 and nearly pitch black but I had previously gathered firewood, set up the lights and propane, ๐Ÿฎ had everything ready to go so it was a pleasant night. Had a big fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ though it was smokey at times due to all the wet wood, wet stuff in the burnables as I’ve been eating healthier. Heard a local fire station whistle go of ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿš’ and thought I might have some unplanned visitors but no it was some other call. This place isn’t as remote as some places I camp. โ›บ Forgot to buy lighter fluid but once I got the somewhat damp and frozen wood going it burned well but was sparky until the wind died out. Saturday was a star filled night โœจ and very mild which was nice.

Sunday was cloudy and breezy at times ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ especially up on the hills. I hiked the bulk of the day, visiting most of the outer truck trails at Charles Baker State Forest ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒณ๐ŸŒฒ as I didn’t want to hike muddy horse trails. Checked out the Elmer Spring Campsite which is remote but accessible by vehicle and is really nice and private. โ›บ Hiked the Ledges Trail which was kind of interesting as was Truck Trail 7 which is cut into a ledge on the side of the mountain โ›ฐ๏ธ. Icy in spots especially on the road but cold enough even the horse ๐Ÿด trails weren’t too icy.

For today, Washington’s Birthday will have showers likely, mainly before 11am. Cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 40 degrees at 11am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 28th. Not bad for the high country in in. Just wearing the vest. Southwest wind 9 to 13 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 28 degrees. The record high of 66 was set in 1930. 11.2 inches of snow fell back in 1977.โ„

While it hasn’t been sunny โ˜๏ธ the mid weather has been nice. Not having to deal with frozen water ๐Ÿ’ฆ, frozen food like milk ๐Ÿฅ› or eggs ๐Ÿฅš is good for a change. The batteries are healthy and happy ๐Ÿ˜Š in my truck ๐Ÿ”‹, I haven’t had to start the truck all weekend long. Used the propane heater โ™จ a lot less than I have in recent trips, no icy propane lines to deal with. But it’s been cold enough that things have remained generally frozen in the ground, keeping the trails from being too muddy.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:16 pm with sun having an altitude of 36.2ยฐ from the due south horizon (-34.4ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 8.2 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:01 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (249ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (256ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:40 pm after setting for 3 minutes with dusk around 6:07 pm, which is one minute and 17 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west-southwest (253ยฐ) at an altitude of 2ยฐ from the horizon, 228,419 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:41 pm. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies โ˜ and temperatures around 34 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 50 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 47 seconds over yesterday.

Today I decided to hike back and explore a few more ponds ๐Ÿธ in the northern part of the state forest. Then midday head back home. I figure enjoy and explore as much of the land while I’m here. Then I’ll have to head home. I thought about taking Tuesday off but it looks like rain โ˜” and maybe snow here.

Tonight will have a slight chance of snow showers after 4am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 23 degrees at 2am. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 5th. Maximum wind chill around 17 at 4am; Northwest wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 13 degrees. The record low of -10 occurred back in 2015.

Planning to go out and see the folks ๐Ÿ‘ช when I get home, that is after showering ๐Ÿšฟ and unpacking. Then I want to run to the car wash ๐Ÿš™ and then Walmart for fruit and vegetables for the upcoming week. ๐Ÿ

Brookfield looks cold and snowy for next weekend. ๐ŸŒจ But I got my fun in. Saturday, a chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 25. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Sunday, a chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 34. Breezy. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Typical average high for the weekend is 39 degrees.

I don’t necessarily plan on being back to Brookfield anytime soon though I might do my April trip to Cazenovia rather than the Adirondacks East Branch Sacandaga River for a change. ๐Ÿ—ป Easter is late this year and depending on how mild the spring is things could be greening up by then. Probably few black flies up north ๐Ÿœ but I’ve been itching to do the Gorge Rail Trail is Cazenovia – Canestota for some time again. March maybe a camping trip โ›บ to Rennselearville State Forest again or Burnt Rossman. Depends on how much snow. It will be after the time change at this point.

Looking ahead, there are 7 weeks until 8 PM Dusk ๐ŸŒ† when the sun will be setting at 7:39 pm with dusk at 8:06 pm (Daylight Savings Time) in Brookfield. Earlier back in Albany. On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy, warm and temperatures between 74 and 49 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 57 degrees. Thinking spring thoughts ๐Ÿ’ญ on this cloudy but mild morning. We hit a record high of 86 back in 1922.

Red Trail Marker

February 10, 2023 Night

Good evening! Another work week has come to the end, the weekend has arrived. Should be a nice one but maybe a bit cool on Saturday compared to the rest of the warm winter this year. But it’s a relative thing.

Partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ and 41 degrees in Delmar for the evening walk. ๐Ÿšถ I swear I felt a few rain โ˜” drops mid walk. There is a west-northwest breeze at 10 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing around 1 am.

Walking home from the Park and Ride lot ๐Ÿ…ฟ I was thinking this was the last time I’ll have to do it but I might continue to get off there if the weather is nice on days when I have to dress up for work. But those days when the weather is bad the express is a good option and I don’t have to depend on asking the driver to drop me off at home. ๐Ÿก Plus it’s really good for all those session mornings and it gets me to the office ๐Ÿข a little earlier than which is good as a director to be in early.

Tonight will have a slight chance of snow showers between 1am and 2am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 26 degrees at 6am. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 15th. West wind 10 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 12 degrees. The record low of -18 occurred back in 1962.

Last month, January my gas and electric bill was $103 which isn’t bad figuring its January and inflation. ๐Ÿ”Œ I don’t like paying much for gas and electricity as I don’t think I get much value out of it. It was outside of that first week of February that one Friday and Saturday a very mild month and I’ve been keeping my heat to a minimum level especially now that I have that heated blanket. But it’s mostly been do to that very mild weather.

Tonight will have a Waining Gibbous ๐ŸŒ– Moon with 75% illuminated. The moon will rise at 10:28 pm. The darkest hour is at 12:11 am, followed by dawn at 6:31 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:00 am in the east-southeast (109ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 4 seconds.

Pasta for dinner tonight. ๐Ÿ That used to be my go to but it has a lot of calories and it’s not real filling so I eat too much. I just abided by the one bowl rule, no second helpings, included a lot frozen corn ๐ŸŒฝ and had a bunch of frozen strawberries and bananas for dessert. And now I have at least two or three more meals I’ll freeze for next week for lunch and dinner. I try to mix things up.

Sunrise is one minute and 16 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:41 am with sun in the east-southeast (116ยฐ). Tonight will have 13 hours and 34 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 37 seconds over last night.

Going to bed ๐Ÿ› fairly early as I want to walk down to the Norman’s Kill Gorge ๐Ÿž before the crowds. ๐Ÿ‘ช Maybe leave as soon as dawn for the falls at 6:30. It’s a reheat breakfast morning so it should be quick and easy.

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 37 degrees at 2pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 18th. Breezy, with a northwest wind 15 to 20 mph decreasing to 8 to 13 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 26 degrees. The record high of 59 was set in 1981. 9.6 inches of snow fell back in 1933.โ„

In four weeks on March 10 the sun will be setting in the west (265ยฐ) at 5:56 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 35 minutes and 5 seconds later then tonight. In 2021 on that day, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 56 and 20 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 43 and 24 degrees. The record high of 72 degrees was set back in 1977.

Looking forward to the longer evenings ahead. ๐Ÿ“š Already thinking about going down to the park in the evening with a book, or even just for a nice walk. Four weeks from Sunday that will be possible with the time change. ๐Ÿ•’

Looking ahead, 5:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is Next Friday, St. Patrick’s Day ๐Ÿ€ is in 5 weeks, 7:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is in 8 weeks, 8 PM Dusk ๐ŸŒ† is in 2 months, Cinco de Mayo ๐Ÿค  is in 12 weeks, Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ is in 3 months, National Nude Day ๐Ÿ‘ฑ is in 22 weeks, Average High 70 ๐ŸŽ‘ is in 29 weeks, September ๐ŸŽ is in 29 weeks, Labor Day Weekend Begins ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ is in 29 weeks, 6:30 Sunrise ๐ŸŒ‡ is in 7 months, Autumn ๐Ÿ‚ is in 32 weeks, Buy Nothing Day ๐Ÿ›๏ธ is in 41 weeks, December ๐ŸŽ„ is in 42 weeks, 7:15 AM Sunrise โŒ›๏ธ is in 10 months, Bill of Rights Day ๐Ÿ“œ is in 44 weeks and Days are Getting Longer โ˜€๏ธ is in 45 weeks.

Sledding Hill

February 9, 2023 Evening

Good evening! Cloudy and 41 degrees in Delmar for the evening walk. โ˜๏ธ Breezy, ๏ธ16 mph breeze from the south-southeast ๐ŸŒฌ with gusts up to 30 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. There is a inch of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธTemperatures will drop below freezing at Saturday around 1 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Kind of chilly this evening with the wind ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ but I’m out walking because that’s what I do in the evening. One of my eyes ๐Ÿ‘€ is a bit irritated and I’m tired ๐Ÿ˜ด as I didn’t sleep well last night as I was a bit bothered by the news of Ward Stone’s passing. The high cost of politics. I think it’s better to focus on making money ๐Ÿ’ต and looking the other way as your community is going to shit.

Tonight will rain likely before 10pm, then a chance of showers after 3am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 42 degrees at 6pm. 26 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 27th. South wind 11 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 12 degrees. The record low of -21 occurred back in 1948.

Somebody brought in doughnuts ๐Ÿฉ to work today and I walked right on by. Sugar is ducking poison โ˜  I told myself and walked on by. I don’t need the free food, I’m not starving. Having that bowl of oranges, apples and bananas in my office really helps. ๐ŸŠ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŒ I eat a couple throughout the day whenever I’m hungry and I have a lot more energy. And if turns out it’s actually cheaper than eating bigger meals. ๐Ÿด Pasta, frozen chicken, sauce seems cheap – if you buy in bulk but it’s not if you end up eating a ton of it, ignoring the health impacts. But if you’re eating fruits and vegetables all day long ๐Ÿฅฆ you feel far less hungry. ๐Ÿคฐ๐Ÿผ

Tonight will have a Waining Gibbous ๐ŸŒ– Moon with 84% illuminated. The moon will rise at 9:21 pm. The Snow โ„ Moon is on Saturday, February 25. The darkest hour is at 12:10 am, followed by dawn at 6:32 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:02 am in the east-southeast (110ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 4 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 15 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:42 am with sun in the east-southeast (117ยฐ). Tonight will have 13 hours and 36 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 35 seconds over last night.

Today I found they are extending the 519 bus to Voorheesville. ๐Ÿš Kind of happy ๐Ÿ˜Š about being able to catch the express in front of my apartment as it makes for an easier commute on session days or bad weather when I don’t want to necessarily walk down to the express.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 48 degrees at 10am. 13 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 22nd. Breezy, with a west wind 16 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 34 mph. A year ago, we had snow in the morning, which became snow by afternoon. The high last year was 25 degrees. The record high of 53 was set in 1955. 4.0 inches of snow fell back in 1892.โ„

Saturday I’m thinking of sanding and painting that rust spot on my passenger door of my truck. Figure arrest the rust the best I can while I still can. ๐Ÿ›ป๐Ÿ–Œ๏ธ And maybe do an early morning walk ๐Ÿšถ down to Norman’s Kills Falls.

In four weeks on March 9 the sun will be setting in the west (265ยฐ) at 5:55 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 35 minutes and 12 seconds later then tonight. In 2021 on that day, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 50 and 27 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 43 and 24 degrees. The record high of 81 degrees was set back in 2016.

Looking ahead, Read Across America Day ๐Ÿ“š is in 3 weeks, 7:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is in 2 months, Arbor Day ๐ŸŒณ is in 11 weeks, 8:30 PM Dusk ๐ŸŒ† is in 12 weeks, 8 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is in 12 weeks, 9 PM Dusk ๐ŸŒ† is in 16 weeks, June ๐Ÿน is in 16 weeks, 8:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is in 17 weeks, Ugly Truck Day ๐Ÿšš is in 23 weeks, Campfire Day ๐Ÿ”ฅ is in 25 weeks, Columbus Day ๐Ÿ›ฅ๏ธ is in 35 weeks, Average High is 60 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 36 weeks, Thanksgiving ๐Ÿฆƒ is in 41 weeks, Average High is 40 ๐ŸŒจ is in 10 months, Earliest Sunset of the Year โŒ›๏ธ is in 10 months, First Day of Winter โ˜ƒ๏ธ is in 45 weeks and 4:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 46 weeks.

Snowmobile Trail Climbs Henry Hill

February 4, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Happy Saturday. Why so negative? โ„๏ธ I mean it’s a beautiful day, just cold as shit. I think it was about negative eleven when I woke up, but it’s warming up fast I tell myself. My bedroom was only 45 degrees at six o’clock when I awoke though I didn’t notice it at all until I actually looked the thermometer in my bedroom. ๐Ÿ› I am just used to the cold, after all this winter camping and because I keep my heat low as I like to keep my heating bills down. I left the cabinets open under the sink, and there were no issues with frozen pipes, though the water was cold coming out of the sink for a few seconds before hot water arrive from the hot water heater. I have to admit I probably let the water run more washing dishes then I should have ๐Ÿฝ but the warm water was nice. Probably won’t take a shower ๐Ÿ›€ until tomorrow, just because I’m not going anywhere, and it would be cold getting out of the shower.

Sunny and -9 degrees in Delmar. ๐ŸŒž There is a northwest breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The current wind chill is -26. There are 2 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 10 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ I am waiting a little bit on my morning walk, until it’s at least zero degrees on and I can put on the face mask, gloves and thermal underwear. I don’t think it’s as windy as they say from looking at the trees, though there was some good good gusts for a while yesterday. Going to be in the 40s tomorrow, and most of the week.

Things warmed up quickly though inside โ™จ๏ธ when I turned on the portable electric space heater. Technically my bedroom has baseboard electric heat to supplement that gas radiators downstairs, but I never use them. They smell so bad until the dust burns off, are expensive to run, and don’t put the heat right where I want it like a little electric space heater. Electric heat is much quicker then gas for sure, especially with the 220 volt 40 amp circuits or whatever they are. Maybe I could make it even warmer in here, but I don’t want to pay for the heat in this cold weather. I did patch up more air leaks around the door, it seems pretty good now. What can I say, it’s an inexpensive, run down apartment.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 15 degrees at 3pm. 19 degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around -26 at 8am; Northwest wind 7 to 10 mph becoming south in the afternoon. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with sunny skies in the afternoon. The high last year was 37 degrees. The record high of 61 was set in 1991. 15.5 inches of snow fell back in 1926.โ„

Until it warms up, ๐Ÿค– I am working on some maps and data analysis using my laptop. Already the wind is slowing, so I am hopeful to get out in a bit. But I have some interesting ideas of maps and data I can extract. I noticed that NYSUT has posted electronic spreadsheet versions of the school aid runs, ๐Ÿค– so I can use it to make maps. Also, I want to do some things with sunset and length of day and make some interesting maps. But I am hoping it will be warm enough, I won’t be spending all day inside. That would be a bummer for a Saturday. But it’s so cold right now.

While my plans aren’t set in stone, ๐ŸฅŒ I am leaning towards a hike out to Five Rivers today, ๐Ÿฆ assuming it gets warmer, the wind remains calm and I can bundle up. I want to get my steps in. I did go to library last night to work on some projects for a while, and I don’t like going there on the weekends when it’s crowded, but I’ll see how cold it is later on. Maybe at least I can go for a walk ๐Ÿšถ‍โ™€๏ธ around the superblock, and get 2 1/2 miles if I wear gloves ๐Ÿงค and my full-face mask. ๐Ÿซ  Maybe Meads Road, I like seeing the farm country and cows at that way. ๐Ÿƒ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:10 pm with sun having an altitude of 31.1° from the due south horizon (-39.7° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 9.9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:32 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (242°). ๐Ÿ“ธ

The sunset is in the west-southwest (249°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:13 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 7 seconds with dusk around 5:42 pm, which is one minute and 18 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Full ๐ŸŒ Moon in the east-northeast (73°) at an altitude of 16° from the horizon, 252,240 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:16 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 15 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 9 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 25 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 13 degrees at 9pm. Three degrees below normal. But a warm up! Maximum wind chill around 4 at 6pm; South wind 7 to 13 mph. Cold but not nearly as cold as this morning. And warming up throughout the night. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 17 degrees. The record low of -15 occurred back in 1918.

Looking ahead, next Saturday is Don’t Cry over Spilled Milk Day ๐Ÿฅ› when the sun will be setting at 5:23 pm with dusk at 5:50 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy, snow showers and temperatures between 26 and 12 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 35 degrees. That will feel like a heat wave compared today, though the 8-14 day outlook looks even warmer then average. We hit a record high of 59 back in 1981.

Evening Rays Over Center Square

January 17, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday from back in the cesspool. New York let’s go chase that money. Partly sunny and 21 degrees in Delmar for the morning walk ๐Ÿšถ on this third week of January after the long weekend, which seemed too short. Calm wind. Things will start to thaw out at around 11 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธAnd then more rain this evening. I will pack my umbrella for the evening commute.

It’s back to work after the long weekend. ๐Ÿง‘๐Ÿป‍๐Ÿ’ผ Already got paid for the weeks gone by. Memories of the weekend come and gone loom large. Despite the thermostat set at fifty in my apartment I was much too warm with the heat. โ™จ I felt like a husky brought inside in the freezing weather. I’m sure I’ll feel hot all day in the office ๐Ÿข and I’ll have my fan running.

Today will have a chance of rain, mainly after 2pm. Increasing clouds ๐ŸŒฆ๏ธ, with a high of 37 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 18th. Light and variable wind becoming southeast around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had light snow in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 36 degrees. The record high of 62 was set in 1889. 10.9 inches of snow fell back in 1994.โ„

Got paid this morning ๐Ÿ’ธ before I could even get out of bed and look ๐Ÿ› at the NY Post cover on the wall from Dan Halloran and the ducking money and his hair brained scheme to sell the New York City mayor-ship. If you are planning on putting a knife ๐Ÿ—ก though some ones back make sure you actually will be successful at killing them. Usually it’s the dumb criminals that get caught. Smart ones amend the law โš– so their conduct is lawful.

Running a bit late on my morning walk so I had to walk past the smoking cars ๐Ÿš™ past the high school ๐Ÿšธ but whatever. I am taking the local ๐Ÿš to work so I have a bit of extra time to iron my shirt, take a shower ๐Ÿšฟ and pack a lunch. ๐Ÿฅช I’m not going to pack a dinner, I’m hopeful it won’t be too late of a night. But I don’t care, once I get home ๐Ÿก if it’s not raining I’ll do my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ and then head to bed after dinner.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:06 pm with sun having an altitude of 26.6° from the due south horizon (-44.2° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 12 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:06 pm with the sun in the southwest (235°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (242°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:49 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 18 seconds with dusk around 5:20 pm, which is one minute and 12 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:55 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 36 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 32 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 46 seconds over today.

It just back to the grind, ๐Ÿš ๐Ÿข ๐Ÿš and Madison County was so nice but I know I’m working for a better future ๐Ÿ”ฎ. I was fortunate enough to have a job that I could work in Madison County for a brief period of time โณ but those days came and went so quickly, just as did Dr. King’s ๐Ÿ‘‘ weekend. But so be it. Not the other side of the world, I could go back there at some point in the spring. ๐ŸŒท I’m thinking though for President’s Weekend I might be back at Rennselaerville State Forest. That is five weeks off though. I can’t complain too much, just a four day week and it will be the weekend before you know it.

Tonight will have a chance of rain before 2am, then a chance of rain and snow. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 33 degrees at 6am. 18 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 5th. South wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. In 2022, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 22 degrees. The record low of -19 occurred back in 1957.

Fixed the chain ๐Ÿ”— on my wallet. I find old USB cables work good for tying my wallet to my belt and usually last a year or two. Now that’s real recycling โ™ป and means that I don’t loose my wallet. ๐Ÿค”

Continued mild for the weekend though Sunday will be the best day. โ˜€ Saturday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 36. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 40. Probably cold enough that things will be frozen on Bennett Hill though for hiking I’m thinking. Typical average high for the weekend is 32 degrees. The coldest time of the year isn’t so cold.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Valentines Day โค๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 5:27 pm with dusk at 5:54 pm. Or as I like to call it, Valente’s Day, mostly because I’m not good at spelling. On that day in 2022, we had mostly cloudy, snow showers and temperatures between 28 and 15 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 36 degrees. We hit a record high of 63 back in 1946.
