November 26, 2020 Afternoon

Good afternoon! Happy Thanksgiving. ๐Ÿฆƒ Hopefully you’re not one sick ๐Ÿคฎ turkey with COVID-19 and are enjoying your day. Rain and 53 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a south breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 49 degrees. There are 9 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธTemperatures will drop below freezing at Sunday around 3 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

I am pretty good although I slept in ๐Ÿ˜ด because I woke early and ended up listening to the news before falling back asleep again. ๐Ÿ“ป Then I got working on a bunch of different projects on my computer. I am trying to stay off the internet – the amount of doom scrolling ๐Ÿ“œ one can do is a terrible waste of time.

Thanksgiving Day ๐Ÿฆƒ will have a chance of showers, mainly before 4pm. Cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 54 degrees at 1pm. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 1st. Maximum dew point of 50 at 1pm. South wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 58 degrees. The record high of 67 was set in 1979. 9.6 inches of snow fell back in 2014.โ„

As I noted yesterday heading out to the parents house for a socially distant Thanksgiving around tray tables. ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ†”๏ธ๐Ÿง”๐Ÿป๐Ÿ—๐Ÿฝ๏ธ It will be fun to do before everything really shuts down as the pandemic really climbs the next few weeks. I’m already planning to work primarily from home this winter ๐Ÿก๐Ÿ’ป, having figured out how to do it with my phone as a hot spot.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž was at 11:44 am with sun having an altitude of 26.3ยฐ from the due south horizon (-44.5ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 12.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:42 pm with the sun in the southwest (234ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (242ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:26 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 18 seconds with dusk around 4:56 pm, which is 31 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ Moon in the east-southeast (103ยฐ) at an altitude of 23ยฐ from the horizon, 252,133 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:32 pm. At sunset, look for rain showers ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 54 degrees. The dew point will be 49 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 9 hours and 24 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 39 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have patchy fog. Otherwise, mostly cloudy , with a low of 42 degrees at 6am. ๐ŸŒซ 14 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 9th. Calm wind. In 2019, we had light rain in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 31 degrees. The record low of 8 occurred back in 1957.

I have the groceries I need and will be heading up to the Adirondacks tomorrow for a few days. โ›บ I do think I want to stop for hot coca โ˜• on the way up there and maybe a few other supplies but I want to get up there pretty early as the sun sets early ๐ŸŒ‡ this time of year. Do some short hiking from camp, listen to a lot of podcasts and retire to bed ๐Ÿ› fairly early. I could hot tent but I don’t think it neccesary for this weekend.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, a slight chance of showers before 10am. Partly sunny, with a high near 47. West wind 5 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Sunday, sunny, with a high near 48. Typical average high for the weekend is 43 degrees.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until 7:15 AM Sunrise โŒ›๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 4:22 pm with dusk at 4:53 pm. On that day in 2019, we had rain showers, mostly cloudy, mild and temperatures between 52 and 35 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 38 degrees. We hit a record high of 64 back in 1966.

October 26, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Despite the dark morning, I’m up and going. ๐ŸŒง๏ธ I think it’s a pay week, so good motivation to get going. ๐Ÿ’ต Plus next week we get to sleep ๐Ÿ˜ด in one more hour with the time change. ๐Ÿ•’ Five weeks to Cyber Monday ๐Ÿ›๏ธ and Beaver Moon ๐ŸŒ•. Rain showers and 40 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒง๏ธ There is a southeast breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Friday around 8 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Kind of a chilly, wet morning but I woke up early and got some coffee โ˜• going. A very dark for one more Monday until we set the clock back for extra daylight in the morning but very dark evenings ๐ŸŒƒ ahead. Happens every year. That’s called changing the way time, something all the cranks hate but I don’t like going to work in the dark. ๐Ÿฎ I had to walk to the store this morning to get milk ๐Ÿฅ› for the coffee. One benefit to living in the land of the suburbanite.

It’s a rainy morning โ˜” with the drizzle but I’m out for my morning walk๐Ÿšถโ€โ™‚๏ธbecause I didn’t get out last night. One advantage to walking in the rain, no joggers ๐Ÿงœโ€โ™€๏ธto run you over.

Soon I expect to be working downtown every day, so on days I don’t have to wear my suit ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿ’ผ, I hope to be taking the express bus ๐ŸšŒ downtown. The walk to the park and ride ๐Ÿšhelps to clear my mind. Plus, it’s a one stop trip from the Park and Ride to the Emperors Plaza. ๐Ÿš„ On a nice day, the views of the mountains and Plaza are nice.

Today will have showers likely before 11am, then a chance of sprinkles between 11am and 4pm, then a chance of showers or sprinkles after 4pm. Cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 49 degrees at 2pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 12th. South wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 58 degrees. The record high of 78 was set in 1963. There was a dusting of snow in 1997.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:40 pm with sun having an altitude of 34.7ยฐ from the due south horizon (-36.1ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 8.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:18 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (247ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (254ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:57 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 2 seconds with dusk around 6:24 pm, which is one minute and 26 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the southeast (129ยฐ) at an altitude of 21ยฐ from the horizon, 247,072 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:59 pm. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 47 degrees. The record low of 21 occurred back in 1950.

Back in 1970, Muhammad Ali faces off against Jerry Quarry in Atlanta, Georgia for the first time after Ali’s three-year hiatus from evading to be drafted in the Vietnam War. ๐ŸฅŠGood for him, the Vietnam War was evil ๐Ÿ˜ˆ.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, sunny, with a high near 48. Sunday, a chance of showers. Mostly sunny, with a high near 53. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Typical average high for the weekend is 54 degrees.

I am looking at the weekend forecast ๐Ÿ”ญ ๐ŸŒž but the real question ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ is when will the rain and snow ๐ŸŒจ depart on Friday and how truly cold โ„ will it be for camping if I go out to Brookfield and do some small game hunting ๐Ÿฟ ๐Ÿ”ซ and enjoying the woods. ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ

One month ๐Ÿ“… from now will be Thanksgiving ๐Ÿฆƒ when the sun will be setting at 4:24 pm with dusk at 4:56 pm (Standard Time).

South

September 26, 2020 Night

Good evening! Cloudy and 62 degrees at the Lake Pleasant. โ˜๏ธThere is a south-southwest breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 59 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 11 am.

I can’t believe how dark end dreary it got after a nice day. ๐Ÿ˜• Clouds just kind of pushed in and it got dark early. The nights are already pretty long but are even longer in this lousy weather. But at least tomorrow should be nicer. A few drops of rain ๐Ÿ’ง this evening but nothing major so far.

Today was a nice day with lots of color exploring Watch Hill on Indian Lake and Sawyer Mountain โ›ฐ which I was less impressed with. I thought about also hiking back to Rock Lake but it was already getting late and sunset is so early this time of year. I think if I did it again I’d either have skipped Sawyer Mountain – which is best enjoyed in the morning hours due to the overlook location – or spent less time at the Indian Lake library uploading photos slowly ๐Ÿ–ฑ๏ธon the very sluggish Wi-Fi that is common in the Adirondacks.

Spent some time laying in the hammock for a while and had a small fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ, listening to podcasts until around 10 pm. Nights are long this time of year so it’s difficult to stay up particularly late. A bunch of loud motorcycles ๐Ÿ came through but after the thunderous rumble they were gone as fast as they came. While no Moose Festival this year in Indian Lake it was packed with motorcyclists when I drove through town.

Tonight will have isolated showers. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 57 degrees at 3am. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 2nd. Maximum dew point of 59 at 8pm. South wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had patches of fog in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 46 degrees. The record low of 24 occurred back in 1947.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon with 78% illuminated. At 8 PM, the moon was in the south-southeast (159ยฐ) at an altitude of 23ยฐ from the horizon, some 240,582 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by March 28th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The Hunter ๐Ÿน Moon is on Thursday, October 1. The darkest hour is at 12:50 am, followed by dawn at 6:22 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:51 am in the east (91ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 56 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:28 am with sun in the east (98ยฐ). Tonight will have 12 hours and 4 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 58 seconds over last night.

I think it’s the camp grittle that is attracting mice to my truck cap. When it’s not in the camper there doesn’t seem to be a mouse problem. ๐Ÿญ Of course tonight I spilled some rubbing alcohol everywhere and my truck cap smells like a doctor office ๐Ÿข so no mouse would dream of going near my truck cap. ๐Ÿ˜‚ I usually bring it to help clean my hands ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป especially now with old Coronavirus being such a worry. ๐Ÿ‘พI doubt the smell ๐Ÿ‘ƒ๐Ÿป will last for long though. Alcohol is very volatile and evaporates quickly.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of showers before 9am. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 73 degrees at 2pm. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 15th. Maximum dew point of 61 at 4pm. South wind 8 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 72 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 2017.

Not sure what my plans are for tomorrow ๐Ÿค”, been thinking about parking ๐Ÿ…ฟ at Sled Harbor ๐Ÿ›ท and hiking back to Pillsbury Lake. I don’t want to have to find a space to park in what is certain to be packed parking lot at the end of Old Military Turnpike. โš”

In four weeks on October 24 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (254ยฐ) at 5:59 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 47 minutes and 28 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 68 and 35 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 57 and 37 degrees. The record high of 75 degrees was set back in 2017.

Looking ahead, Northern Zone Regular Season ๐ŸฆŒ is in 3 weeks, Halloween ๐Ÿฆ‡ and the Blue Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 5 weeks, Thanksgiving ๐Ÿฆƒ is in 2 months, Small Business Saturday ๐Ÿ›๏ธ is in 9 weeks, Repeal of Prohibition Day ๐Ÿบ is in 10 weeks, Boxing Day ๐ŸฅŠ is in 3 months, Static Electric Shock Day ๐Ÿงผ is in 15 weeks, National Cheese Lovers Day ๐Ÿง€ is in 17 weeks, 5:30 PM Dusk ๐ŸŒ† is in 4 months, Save the Pine Bush Turns 43 ๐Ÿฆ‹ is in 19 weeks, 5:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 21 weeks, and Snow Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 22 weeks.

September 26, 2020 Afternoon

Good afternoon! Mostly sunny and 71 degrees at the Indian Lake. There is a south breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 54 degrees.

Absolutely stunningly beautiful fall day. ๐Ÿ‚ I just got done hiking Watch Hill, and headed up to Indian Lake to upload some photos and hike Sawyer Mountain after lunch.โ›ฐ Then I will prboably head back to camp and read ๐Ÿ“– for a while, enjoying the nice breeze and colors from the hammock and then have a nice dinner before it gets too dark.

Hiking Watch Hill was fun but I wasn’t happy to discover I had no cell service up there. ๐Ÿ“ฒ That wasn’t so cool as I’m supposed by supervising staff that is working, but fortunately I received no work related emails or texts ๐Ÿ“จ during that time. I was planning to make sure I had good reception all weekend but that wasn’t to be. But I still had a very nice hike.

Been waking up early, ๐ŸŒ„ with the early sunsets and falling asleep after having a couple of beers.๐Ÿป I normally don’t drink much but with the nights as long as they are and things are so crazy lately, what’s a few beers at camp.

This afternoon will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 75 degrees at 4pm. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 10th. Maximum dew point of 56 at 6pm. South wind around 10 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 69 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 2017.

I thought about driving out to Cedar River Flow or Moose Plains, ๐Ÿšถbut I think I’ll just do Sawyer Mountain if it’s not too crowded. Otherwise I guess I will go up to Blue Mountain Lake and hike around Lake Durant and some of the North Country Placid Trail before heading back to camp down by Mason Lake. I am glad I did get a campsite on Thursday night, as by Friday I think they all were taken.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:49 pm with sun having an altitude of 44.7ยฐ from the due south horizon (-24.9ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:10 pm with the sun in the west (262ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (269ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:48 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 57 seconds with dusk around 7:15 pm, which is one minute and 51 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the south-southeast (149ยฐ) at an altitude of 19ยฐ from the horizon, 240,494 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:50 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 69 degrees. The dew point will be 56 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 57 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 3 minutes over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers between 1am and 3am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 55 degrees at 4am. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 8th. Maximum dew point of 58 at 8pm. South wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had patches of fog in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 46 degrees. The record low of 24 occurred back in 1947.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Northern Zone Regular Season ๐ŸฆŒ when the sun will be setting at 6:09 pm with dusk at 6:38 pm. On that day in 2019, we had rain and temperatures between 52 and 46 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 59 degrees. We hit a record high of 85 back in 1947.
